Okay, hyperbeeb tagged me in the 10 Favourite Characters thing, and I decided to pick one per canon because otherwise there is a very real danger it would be nine Anne Rice characters and Tony Stark or something. Also, multiple versions of canon count as one canon, because otherwise the various Marvel and Holmes canons would get unwieldy:

1. Tony Stark; let’s get him out of the way first (MCU/616)

2. Sherlock Holmes (all the versions of canon I know except Sherlock; leaving Watson out of this kills me, especially in light of Elementary, but that’s the arbitrary rule I set up for myself)

3. Jane Watkins (Merrily Watkins series by Phil Rickman)

4. Hermione Granger (HP books/movies)

5. Arya Stark (ASOIAF/GoT)

6. Sarah Connor (all film/TV/comics incarnations of Terminator)

7. Marius (The Vampire Chronicles)

Hannibal is difficult because if you count the books as well it becomes a dead heat between TV!Hannibal and Clarice Starling. BSG is similarly tied re: Starbuck and Gaius Baltar, and for several other fandoms like Jonathan Creek, I have no clear favourite.
