the-vampire-lestat-de-lioncourt:
I just made this.
Lestat’s just casually walking back into our lives.
I’ve written 3 of what I call “hybrid” novels, in which the Mayfair & vampire universes collided. Some time has passed now, and I don’t think those novels were completely successful, I don’t think they’ve worn well.
– Anne Rice, NY, 10/15/13. Paraphrased, I can’t remember exactly how she put it, but that was the message. She doesn’t see a man-wolf/vampire crossover happening.
AND she also said that, although she discussed it with Becket hoping to make it work, a Blood Vivicanti/VC cross-over is not going to happen. So that answers THAT.
I had posted this ages ago, but it bears a reblog in light of the past week’s announcement and speculation surrounding Prince Lestat.
I should mention that the question asked of her was: “Do you see a crossover of the Wolf Gift and VC or Mayfair series happening?”

THE OFFICIAL COVER FOR “PRINCE LESTAT” (source)
WE HAVE A FUCKING COVER AND A SYNOPSIS I AM FREAKING OUT
SYNOPSIS WHERE ANNABELLIONCOURT??

All I know of the synopsis for this are the bullet points gleaned by l-e-s-t-a-t (here) of the Dinner Party Show, and the teasing from Anne Rice as follows (source):
“It is a big vampire chronicle,” she said. “It’s all about Lestat and all about the vampires and what they’re doing right now. How they’re coming to terms with everything that’s happened to them, and how Lestat is dealing with demands from all sides that he step forward and become some sort of leader of the tribe.”
“It’s a true sequel to ‘The Queen of the Damned,’ ” Christopher prompted. “That’s how you described it to me.” …
“It’s a sequel to the first five,” Rice corrected, meaning that it also follows “The Tale of the Body Thief” and “Memnoch the Devil.”
“I don’t want to be irritating, or how should I put it, pretentious, talking about a character as though he’s a living being, but I really had to wrestle this guy to the ground and beat him up and say, ‘Look, you’ve got to talk to me. I want to know what you’ve been doing,’ ” she said. “I can’t really write novels about that character unless he wants to come through.”
Rice went back and re-read her own books in the series before she began writing. Once she hit her stride, she wrote more material than could fit into “Prince Lestat.”
“I feel like this is Novel 1 of a new incarnation of the Vampire Chronicles,” she said.
Fave line from this: "I really had to wrestle this guy to the ground and beat him up"
FANART OF THIS PLEASE.

THE OFFICIAL COVER FOR “PRINCE LESTAT” (source)
What’s confirmed about Prince Lestat:
- “Nearly all” of the vampires are in it, except those from her crossover books with the Mayfairs
- There’s a vampire radio station owned by Benji out of New York
- Some chick is going to Stanford
- Lestat learns how to use iPhones but then forgets how like two nights later
- There’s a big conflict with the Talamasca and it’s going to bring the coven together
- It’s longer than Interview with the Vampire
- Christopher said the book is “Game of Thrones” style
- The book is not told exclusively from Lestat’s POV; there’s a lot of third person, some of which is told by mortals and Talamascans.
- Anne has already signed a contract to write a sequel to Prince Lestat; this is the “first book” in a “new incarnation” of the Vampire Chronicles
- Anne’s in talks for movie deals (not really new news) and thinks we’ll hear something in the fall from Hollywood
THANK U FOR GATHERING THESE BULLET POINTS l-e-s-t-a-t!

Anne Rice: please please please DO NOT crossover the VC w/ the Wolf Gift. If I had only one wish for this new book, it would be that one.
Inspired by and made for Laviniaspeaks, in the style of Allie Brosh’s amazing Hyperbole and a Half
I know me too! It’s surreal.
Further surrealness, she did say this about it (meaning that Marius might be in it, but be careful what you wish for):
“It’s all about Lestat and all about the vampires and what they’re doing right now, how they’re coming to terms with everything that’s happened to them and how Lestat is dealing with demands from all sides that he step forward and become the leader of the tribe,” Rice said on the podcast.
(quoted from here.)
This is novel 1 of a new incarnation of the Vampire Chronicles.
– Anne Rice, The Dinner Party Show, Ep. 64 – LESTAT LIVES!
I can’t find the article, but there was a mention that she has signed a contract for a second book in this “new incarnation,” as well.
Yeah, you heard me. THIS was my first Anne Rice novel.
I wasn’t allowed to read this book. I had to sneak into my uncle’s room when I was fourteen. From the cover I thought it was another grimdark comic about a tortured superhero (at this point I had read The Killing Joke, The Dark Phoenix Saga, several Wolverine titles and far too much Frank Miller), only this one happened to be a vampire.
What I got was this:
Okay these are amazing, but also I love how 80s they are. ❤
If u haven’t seen these graphic novels of the VC, u truly must.
