“this ship/work of fiction could hypothetically hurt someone” is not an argument.
We don’t prohibit alcohol just because some people can hurt themselves/other people with it. People who can drink responsibly aren’t at fault for people who can’t.
You either believe in people to be personally responsible for themselves or you believe in a dystopia where all fiction is subject to censorship due to any possible cultural impact.

Pro Shipper/Anti Anti Community Survey
I made a survey because I was curious. Please be aware that it includes potentially triggering topics, including MAP discourse. Gonna tag some people who might be interested, sorry if I forget you.

Uh, thanks for the tag, I’m definitely gonna do this!
Sort of linked to the sex ed posts, I’ve encountered several posts recently where an anti demands, in various ways, that shippers MUST “educate” with their fics/art. And I, a fandom ancient, thought “Wait, what?” Where’s this constant demand for fanwork to be “educational” come from? Sorry Jan, I’m not writing smutfic to educate you about a goddamn thing, “socially responsible” or otherwise. If you’re resorting to fanfic of all things for your education on anything, YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN FAILED.
This is only one side of the phenomenon: you have antis demanding that fanon content educate people, then that adults in fandoms take care and protect children, and what does it all tell you?
These teenagers are being left alone on the internet and are projecting the parenting they’re either not receiving or are not receiving as they need on perfect strangers on the web. They legit believe that they can make the internet space they like safe by demanding that the adults in it become their surrogate parents.
Sorry, random teenager on the internet, I’m not your parent, I’m not your teacher, and nobody owes you anything. Fandom is not a safe space. Internet is not a safe space.

In bigger letters for those in the back:
As a critiquer, your job is not to “make this piece of writing better” but to understand what the writer wants to achieve and help them to achieve it
I love reading your answers, it’s so full of intelligent reasoning and logic which is what many antis do not have… and sadly myself too. That said, I was wondering if you could come up with a stance for me as an artist that… well, how do I convince antis that my art does not denote me, the artist, as a pedophile, when it is merely only fictional art (because none of my art depicts or endangers a real child)? Or if you have something similar already, you can link and I’ll gladly read it up.
Hello anon, I’m glad you enjoy my content!
As per your issue, the thing is: you can’t. You can’t convince them. Fandom wank would have already ended if antis were open to read sources, understand laws, understand nuance, understand the “mind yo business”, follow the “live and let live” rule etc. You’ll see discourse blogs go on infinite hiatus or downright step down from the wankery not because they have been ‘defeated’ but because they are exhausted of repeating the same thing over and over again.
Antis don’t listen.
Which is why the point for you is not to make sure antis can’t talk shit about you, the point is for you to build confidence and security so that you may roll your eyes at antis because you know you’re not doing anything harmful, you know yourself, you know the law of your country, and you know that fiction affects reality in every way but how antis say it does. Haters gonna hate, you can’t change this.
Be sure of yourself, and when you’re tired rest, and when you feel alone look around in your community, and believe in yourself.
Arm yourself with the law
with logic and support and more support and some more logic once again
with understanding of where the accusations are coming from and why
with studies
with positive encouragementBut most of all, be true to yourself. It’s not about antis not attacking you, it’s about you being bulletproof.

Thought of u when i saw this. Dont know if he actually said it, but its a good quote lol
