- Billy Joel.
- Lord of the Flies.
- Belle.
I like Louis’s choices here. Just felt like adding more… not that it matters…
Although Trent & Billy may appear worlds different on the outside, they’re both piano men who write their own music and have had 20+ yrs of success making music thats autobiographical. They’ve both tried to push the envelope with their work. They’ve both had alot of personal issues, and have come out the better for surviving through difficulty (I think they both overcame substance abuse). I think Louis went with Billy Joel because the music is, for the most part, closer to an acoustic performance, with real instruments, and a few 80’s synthesizers, whereas Trent Reznor favors more machinery, remixing, playing with industrial sounds like static… and alot more screaming vocals and guitars, which would probably be too jarring to be enjoyable for Louis.
Lord of the Flies & Exit to Eden sort of represent opposites in that one is generally viewed as more intellectually stimulating than the other, so I can see why Louis picked LotF. They both deal with figuring out one’s place within a group mentality and the idea of taking control of your own situation through strategy. Exit to Eden does deal with social issues regarding sex, and Louis has never really liked discussing that, I wonder whether he’s read that series…
Although Belle & Jessica may appear worlds different on the outside, they are both strong, intelligent women who love their socially-awkward men. So either choice there is a classy one. I think Louis just went with the less flashy option. Louis has had to play his share of patty-cakes with people he’d rather not, in order to diffuse situations.
Plus I like to think Louis is sorta the Belle to Lestat’s Beast!
