yep

viaticumforthemarquise replied to your post: do you think that, after so many books by the Coven of the Articulate, some Talamasca Members started shipping the vampires?

//100% yes. This is the beginning of half of their trouble. Just think, if you could meet your OTP, what might happen?

Just imagine 30 pages of elaborate essays on why one pairing is more canon than another with hundreds of references throughout the different books

//OMG No stop, that’s hilarious. Because I’m pretty sure you are correct. They probably have whole sections of the vampire division dedicated to all of this. Long charts of who has fucked who over the centuries…

SPOILER: all lines just lead to Lestat.

^True facts.

And how psyched was David to get added to that tracking document?! He would never admit to it but you know, deep down, he fangirled over himself/Lestat. At some point. Probably.

MY HOW THE TABLES HAVE TURNED

… but they approach each other very differently in these scenes. There’s the pull of love underneath, but on the surface Lestat has to do the taunting, a defense mechanism against possible rejection. Louis approaches Lestat without a word, just his presence. He’s there for closure, not really to get anything from Lestat beyond that.

Claudia’s fingers reached out to gently fiddle with a lock of his blond hair. “We’re not so different you and I…” She found herself saying as she gazed at him gently and passionately.

Her touch was light but sent a calming ripple through him, and he nuzzled his cold cheek to hers in gratitude. In their earliest days together, Claudia had often boldly played with handfuls of his hair as she rode in his arms, or when they reclined together on a divan at home, discussing the evening plans. On this night Lestat needed her reassuring touch more than ever. Their argument just a few hours prior had been scathing, the two at odds over her decision to end her flute lessons.

Louis had not had been home to voice his opinion, but Lestat knew well enough what it would have been. Lestat had surrendered. He could no longer ignore the glint of her hungry eyes when he and Louis deposited her at these lessons, the manner in which they waved goodbye to her, inching closer together before the door closed, she knew these lessons were in fact a carefully plotted arranged absence. So that they could be alone together. So that they could have one another in a way that she could not.
“Mon ange,” he began, unable to say what needed to be said, “it’s our similarities that cause these fights, but also…” and he placed a kiss delicately on her lips, “what bring us together again.” He looked away, navigating the dark streets. They were almost at their destination.

Claudia lifted her head as she heard Lestat’s request but she didn’t like it very much. The glared down at the woman after she had pushed in to a chair only to cause her to topple over with the momentum. The scarf around the human’s neck kept her from her goal and of course that wouldn’t do. She loved to her them scream with fear, it reminded her why she liked to hunt so much, that and the blood. This woman deserved to make every scream that she made because of her actions. Just the thought caused Claudia to pull back her arm and slap her firm across the face. Leaving the woman stunned from the pain, a red and print left on her cheek as well as a cut. The smell practically made Claudia swoon but she knew better then that.

She quickly gripped the woman firmly and reluctantly dragged her across the floor to where Lestat requested. Of course she rushed to her husband once free which brought Claudia to Lestat’s side. She watched at the blood slipped down to woman’s cheek from her slap and couldn’t help but let another growl slip from her lips as her eye never left her. Once her gaze shifted to the man she could only feel herself fill with more anger. She knew what this man had done to those children just by pulling it from his mind. She didn’t think much of humans put for one to do such a thing to there own kind let alone a child was unforgivable. And of course the woman was no better.

At the sound of Lestat’s voice suddenly she glanced to him for a slit second before looking back to their prey.

“Non!” She said suddenly as she stepped from Lestat and toward the humans. “I don’t believe you deserve to say fair well to each other. Just this closeness you have now is enough.” She practically growled as she rushed forward and grabbed the drunken man before throwing him to the side and away from his wife. She didn’t care to look where she threw him so of course the sound of furniture breaking followed along with the sound of the woman’s crys of worry.

She turned back to the woman and pointed a finger at her. “Now now.” She began as a wicked smirk settled on her lips. “I haven’t even began to make you scream woman.” She reached forward quickly which cause the woman’s hands to go up in defense but that didn’t stop Claudia. She grabbed the woman by the back of her hair and pulled her forward away from the wall. “I’m going to make you feel exactly how you made those kid feel. Defenseless, weak, terrified, small…” She rambled as she stared into the eyes of the weeping begging woman. “How does it feel to be destroyed by the face of something you destroyed?”

The moment that Claudia showed her true preternatural strength with the evening’s victim was a moment Lestat always savored, his heart swelling with pride. Claudia’s control of the quivering beast of a woman proved to these despicable mortals that they were in fact at the end of their miserable lives. Amidst this dawning realization, Lestat also sensed from both of them that they wouldn’t leave this world without a fight. Delicious…

The scent of blood in the air was undeniably arousing, stirring his own need. The night was late, it had taken longer than expected to travel this distance, and the thirst pricked at him like deft fingers plucking at the strings of a violin. He gripped the arm of his chair, hard enough to splinter the wood, as Claudia stepped forward, spoke out. The tension in the air, combined with that slick red shine mere feet away, just under blazingly hateful eyes, proved too much for Claudia and she again attacked, quite without permission. Lestat had wanted to toy with these victims, but no matter, it was just as much amusement to watch Infant Death carry out the act in front of him.

Lestat also leaped forward, wrestling the husband flat on his back, from where he had been tossed some distance away by the strong little fledgling. The cursing from wet lips, spittle decorating the lapels of Lestat’s coat, rapidly became begging and pleading for his own life.

“Oh, just you? We should spare you and not Madame? Oh I couldn’t have guessed that you would, or could, be more vile than we already knew of you! What makes someone as horrible as you? Ah, don’t answer… I’ll find out myself…” and with that, he roughly tore away the fabric and sank his fangs into soft flesh.

Claudia’s voice in the room, threatening the woman, provided a perfect musical accompaniment to his meal. How lovely to have the very words he would have said, spoken aloud by the purest voice: “I haven’t even began to make you scream woman… I’m going to make you feel exactly how you made those kid feel. Defenseless, weak, terrified, small…How does it feel to be destroyed by the face of something you destroyed?” Was hunting alone ever as thrilling as this? He considered Paris… not merely the name of a place anymore but of a time period fraught with pain and pleasure… Gabrielle had found this type of drawn-out performance to be distasteful. She was certainly missing out.

Images from his victim began to pour into focus, weaving a story of a wasted life, petty annoyances, brutal crimes, combined with the drenching satisfaction of the blood itself, with the enveloping rush of the liquor adding a peculiar and familiar weight to Lestat’s fingertips as he massaged the flesh beneath him. This was a preferred position, straddling the man on the floor, with the victim propped against a peeling wall. So preoccupied with own thoughts and feeding, he only now caught the image of a blade appearing in the woman’s hand from the sparks of decision in her mind.

He broke free from his victim, mouth dripping thick crimson, and saw the flash of the dagger the woman was now using to try to stab herself free of his beautiful child! The liquor had slowed his movements, and Lestat shouted for Claudia, scrambled to reach her side, as Claudia cried out in pain.

gorgeous-fiend:  #NO #NO WAY DID MATER JUST SAY LESTAT LISTENS TO JON BON JOVI #NOPE NOPE NOPE

Of course he does! Consider the following:

1) Lestat has pretty scholcky taste in music, all things considered. Yes he is a musician and a rock star but basically he likes anything you can dance to;

2) Bon Jovi are tbh pretty cool. I’m not saying rush out and buy all their albums, but Slippery When Wet is a good time with a gross title.

Hard to disagree w/ liquorandptsdvarietyshow. Headcanon accepted. Although my gut reaction to things AR claims he likes, in general, is to disagree. See: Lestat’s papal desires.

My fave bit in Blood Canticle is when he has that extended fantasy about explaining to Pope JP that capitalism is actually, in fact, totes great. I just love that. It’s so fucking awful and yet it’s weirdly in character.

It’s true though that there is this thing AR has where basically all the vampires, indiscriminate of their differences, enjoy all the same art, and that art suspiciously, somehow, is basically just everything AR likes. It’s like those fanfics I wrote when I was younger where all the characters had my exact taste, meaning I got to insert music and books and that that I liked.*

Examples include: the Baz Luhrmann Romeo & Juliet, Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire, whichever Baroque violinist AR is listening to at the time…

*I don’t do that anymore – nowadays character’s preferences are strongly informed by character. E.g., how Lestat thinks W. Bush is charming and bumbly, and likes Judy Blume (whom I do like, but… not like he does). Or in AmCap, even, how Steve likes LOTR (I super don’t). Or Tony is weird about Steve Albini (which is because Albini is aggressively committed to analogue recording technology, at the same time as being a similar model of belligerent middle-aged asshole to Tony. It’s a joke, guys, I’m very funny).

I have to reread Blood Canticle, forgot about the defense of capitalism mixed with papal awe… there are definitely some good things in BC. Like Mona not taking Lestat’s chauvinism AT ALL.

“And I know why you’re so fired up over Rowan, she’s the first adult female other than your own mother who’s ever caught your attention for more than five minutes, and Hello! Lestat Discovers The Opposite Sex! Yeah, females do come in grown-up sizes! And I happen to be one of them, and this is not the Garden of Eden, and I am not taking off this dress!”

//Shots fired! I’m not a big fan of Mona Mayfair but WOW who else has the balls to talk to him like that?!

It makes the story so much richer to have the characters have their own interests and not share them with each other. Example: Louis’s distaste but understanding of Lestat’s need of regular installments of retail therapy. Those gas-station sunglasses!

Side note: I think your Lestat is amused at the performance of W. as a character, whether W. intended it consciously or it came naturally. Perhaps Lestat sees it (and politics in general) as a form of modern Commedia dell’arte, watching W. perform, watching newsmen bark at each other about W…. might be a similar kind of show!

How adorable that your Lestat went into such analysis about Judy Blume, how refreshing for him to cite specific reasons why he adores her thinking process, and her advice, how he relates it to different situations, whether he agrees with it or not and even questioning those judgements… rather than canon!Lestat who seemed to drool over the Pope for no more than his proximity to God and the kind of worship he experiences as middle man between the believers and the Creator.

Ahhh tangent… I shouldn’t have continued this, shouldn’t try to bite off more than I can chew with you, liquorandptsdvarietyshow… but we are in agreement, is the bottom line ;]

5 TIPS FOR THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES REBOOT

alice-the-red:

Excellent article on Nerdist about Universal wanting to reboot Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. This is my favorite part:

Plus, of all the art forms, music is the most subjective. Readers of the novels could imagine Lestat’s music sounding like anything they wanted it to; hair metal people probably thought they sounded like Mötley Crüe, while New Wave fans might have thought Lestat sounded like Bowie. Anne Rice has said that in her mind, Lestat sounded like Jim Morrison of the Doors. (For the record, as a pseudo goth kid, in my mind Lestat sounded like Peter Murphy of Bauhaus.) I’m pretty sure no one ever wanted them to sound like Korn, but that’s what we ended up with.

Lemme just give you the main points. My comments in italics.

  1. Don’t Chase The Twilight Audience: PREACH.
  2. Consider Cable Television: There are alot of TV vampire series but this one really could be unique among the rest.
  3. Use the Broadway Musical Structure: It’s worked since Ariel the Little Mermaid, and before that. It’s worked in countless movies.
  4. Skip “Rock Star” Lestat: I think it could be handled differently than in QotD. It’s very much a part of his modern bravado. Korn was probably chosen for QotD because (I think) the lead singer had expressed interest in the project. It was also a time when Korn was among the EXPLICIT CONTENT evil corrupting-of-innocents bands of the time.
  5. Keep Anne Rice As Part of the Creative Process: YES. Whatever you feel about her, she did a great job keeping the IWTV movie close to the source material. These ARE her precious babies, and she’s gonna make sure they’re handled with care ❤

“Whatever you feel about her, she did a great job keeping the IWTV movie close to the source material. These ARE her precious babies, and she’s gonna make sure they’re handled with care <3”

With one glaring exception:

Noooo he is not a total failure. I really do think that was a carefully considered choice. I lay out my theory of the Banderas!Armand casting here.

In essence: if they had cast a cherubic teenage redhead it might have been confusing to people who hadn’t read the books, and might have taken the sympathy away from Louis (who was supposed to remain the focus, it’s HIS story, after all). That would have been compromised by omg cute little redhead bby we want to snuggles you!

Let’s say it was an appeal to those who hadn’t read the book(s) … casting an Armand that they could understand more easily as being a more mature/father/teacher figure for Louis.

foreverrhapsody: Also, I’m betting they wanted no accusations of Louis being a pedophile. I mean, the fans know he’s not but to someone not familiar with the characters it might have gotten some raised eyebrows.

^Yes, I think that was part of it, too. It was bad enough that Louis and Claudia’s relationship towards eachother was a major part of the story, whether she was purely a daughter or something more to him. She certainly stood between him and Armand.

Louis tells Armand that she is his “daughter,” and Armand corrects him, “Your lover.” Louis revises it to “My beloved, my child."

So yes, if Armand was also a teen, it could raise this questioning of Louis, and limit the audience. After all, a movie has to be good enough that people recommend it to others, word of mouth keeps it running past opening weekend. Now it’s more of a cult classic, I guess.

No Jamie Campbell Bower??? Pffffft. :P My Lestat is like “…. *DISAPPOINTED*”

ahhh I’m sorry! I knew I would disappoint smne! It was already such a long post… ;A;

I think the FC pics/gifs you use in your RP of him are fitting, I guess my headcanon of Lestat is so thoroughly saturated with Tom Cruise that I’m sorta unable to be objective about this fresh batch of actors/models/etc. who could fill those heeled boots!

JCB is definitely Lestatuesque in his own way. I feel like he’s a little sharp around the edges, but still fits with my headcanon of Lestat that, still having the physique of a hunter, he was lean and streamlined. I feel like I would want JCB a little softer… just a little from all that wine and bread in Paris, maybe! Overall huggable and lovable ❤

Here I made this for ya… couldn’t think of a joke so just take it as-is 😉
