[X] Christopher Rice gave Bryan Fuller shortbread cookies for their meeting! For reals, Fuller is an ideal choice of showrunner for VC, he’s already had murder husband experience on Hannibal. *grabby hands*
If anyone has any info from the meeting(s) between the Rices and Fuller, let me know so I can shares it heeeere!
Hello! I’m flattered that you think so, but I don’t have behind-the-scenes access on the VC TV series, much as I’d like to have it! But I try to be the person who would know at least something about it. I can’t be watching for the news 24/7 so I rely on ppl to shoot links at me of posts from the Official VC FB page, tweets from Anne or Christopher Rice, news articles, etc., something that seems relevant and not just teasing! They do alot of teasing. VC casting crowdsourcing requests.
There was a video posted to the OVCFB (this one from 5/4/17, I think? I can’t watch it now) where AR discussed the state of things, @firelight-fading was good enough to make a recap of the pertinent points!
The most recent thing, which I didn’t post about, oddly, I’ll make a post for it after this, is that the Rices met with Bryan Fuller about the project. He’s been a VC fan for a looooong time:
Was so enamored with Anne Rice’s Interview With a Vampire that, at age 15, he tracked down her phone number and called her, asking to do the screenplay adaptation. When she informed him that producer Julia Phillips owned the rights to the novel, he then called her; she was kind, but firm, in rebuffing him.
Chris gave him homemade shortbread cookies when they met. We all know Bryan’s chomping at the bit for Hannibal, but maybe he can hook the Rices up with someone who’s as passionate about VC as he is, or he can serve in some kind of advisory role? Idk!
OTHER THAN ALL THAT… Currently, to my knowledge, there’s no *new* news. Check my #VC News tag to see some of the past news, and watch the tag for any updates!
AR did post this yesterday (9/19/17), nothing concrete, just that it’s still in the works:

So my brain can barely process this. The Vampire Chronicles (they’re wanting to do The Vampire Lestat first) done by Bryan Fuller!!!!!
Please universe…please make this happen for me!
BRYAN PLEASE
OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDD
@novellaqueen HOLY SHIT
PLEASE
BRYAN I BEG YOU

Am I the only one who saw Lestat, Louis, and Claudia in that “One Unfulfilled Idea of Family” in Hannibal, Will, and Abigail? Or am I just one of those helpless cases of VCians who can easily find reference to VC just anywhere and everywhere? 0_o
It’s definitely not just you. I know I’ve talked to adirotynd and wicked-felina about this very phenomenon. There’s a hell of a lot of common ground between the VC and Hannibal: perverse yet more-intense-than-anything-ever intimacy based on mutual experience of (committing) violence; heightened sensuality; a fine line between black comedy and high-flown philosophy… and then of course Hannibal is in itself a fanfic-like remix of the Thomas Harris canon, which is interesting to look at, considering the fanon that has grown up around the VC over the years.
I was surprised-yet-not-surprised when I found out that Bryan Fuller was a huge IWTV fan growing up – there’s a Nerdist podcast in which he describes how, at the age of 13, he phoned Anne Rice because he wanted to work on the IWTV screenplay. The story is a gem and starts about 32 minutes in, but the whole thing is really great:

Edit: basically what I’m saying is, if you’re a VC fan who can handle looking at gore, there is a very good chance that Hannibal will be right up your street. Meanwhile, if you are a Hannibal fan who enjoys historical settings and can cope with a canon that gets increasingly bizarre as the series progresses, you might find a happy home in VC fandom. Hey, I like to matchmake.
