Aunty, as someone who finds overt expressions of Christian faith jarring and uncomfortable, is it worth getting into The Vampire Chronicles knowing that’s the direction Rice went in in later books?
It’s a tough call to make. While the first three books are nowhere near as heavy on religious symbolism as the books that follow them, Anne Rice’s faith still provided a scaffold for her early writing. (Well, for all of her writing, really.)
*I* don’t think the first three books are overtly Christian, but it’s been a while since I’ve reread Interview or QotD. I tend to stick with Lestat, because he’s so ridiculously over-the-top.
@annabellioncourt, @forthegothicheroine – I’m looping you two in on this question, if you don’t mind.
I was really sensitive towards the religious content when I read them all the first time for my own reasons, so I do remember this well, as it stuck out to me.
Ended up being SUPER LONG so its under a cut
This is my ugly sweater prompt gift for @garama!!

TO… Expand upon my terse words-
Lestat hosted the Ugly Sweater Party 2017 because last year, during the Trinity Gate Christmas Shindig 2016, he was awarded ‘Ugliest Sweater’ when he didn’t even participate in the contest. His attempt to beat Armand at his own game has backfired terribly. He may never recover from this burn. (jk, otherwise all the baby vampires would burn too)
Edit: CHRIST! I forgot the most important part- I was inspired to draw this from a reddit post, HAHAHA. This guy wore a mirror to an ugly sweater party at work and his boss just looked so devastated in the mirror loool.
Belated gift for @garama!! Who wanted Christmas sweaters! 😀
