ahhahh I nearly died watching the iwtv bts video. That was pure gold omg. Tom cruise upset that brad pitt is taller than him and wanting risers. Brad pitt just leaning there like “where did I go wrong” and anne’s cringey 90’s look all made me laugh so hard.

That BTS video is a new fandom treasure and like, back in the 90′s, Tom’s publicist Pat Kingsley would have tracked the source down and made them delete it. ;A; * I love that we’re getting stuff out of private collections now!

^I think this is one of my fave shots of Brad “where did I go wrong” Pitt from that movie… which is why it was so great to see him go from that to this BAMF later in the movie:

^YISSSS PLZ

^Height issues aside (and yeah I’m sure that was an issue!), here’s my take Tom Cruise’s eyebrow concerns. The lighting is different but you can still tell the difference in his makeup/hair. On the left is a still from an earlier scene that was shot and probably had to be discarded bc the blond was too bright, orangey, weirdly smooth (I think they were going for “pampered” and “golden”). Looks like they changed it to highlights and lowlights of blond and a mussier texture to mesh better with Tom’s own coloring. So he had good reason to be concerned about his eyebrows, he probably didn’t want more footage to be wasted.

^anne’s cringey 90’s look: Hey that was in style then bc BELIEVE ME I LIVED IT! But yeah she looks a lot better these days, current 90′s-inspired looks are very different from some of the actual 90′s looks.

*Even though it wasn’t an interview specifically, it was unauthorized bts footage.

Amy Nicholson, How YouTube and the Internet Killed Tom Cruise, America’s Last Movie Star.

“Kingsley was adamant about keeping Cruise out of the tabloids. At press junkets, she demanded that journalists sign contracts swearing not to sell their quotes to the supermarket rags. Then Kingsley expanded her reach and insisted that all TV interviewers destroy their tapes after his segment had aired.”

I saw your recent post about Claudia’s murder of Lestat so I rewatched that scene on youtube. I had totally forgotten most of the details and wow. People bash Tom Cruise (for some pretty valid reasons), but everthing about his reaction and his words and expression was so perfect. They really captured that moment. Poor Lestat, I think because he was so happy he turned blind/naive in that moment when he asks Claudia if shes forgiven him and doesn’t think twice when she says yes. Claudia was being

(2/2) so cruel because she KNEW being really kind to him for once would make him the most vulnerable so she could kill him. And if that’s not evil I don’t know what is.

It’s one of the best scenes in the movie! And one of the most heartbreaking ;A;

“When Claudia starts her assassination plot by bringing him a human gift, Cruise’s eyes show Lestat’s surprise that someone has finally done something nice for him for the first time in the film…

In that moment, we realize that while Lestat is capable of love, he’s never been loved back.” – Amy Nicholson, Tom Cruise: Anatomy of an Actor

You are preaching to the choir re: Tom’s Lestat 😉 He may not have LOOKED 100% like Lestat but I thought his performance really captured the essence of the character. I think Kirsten took a lot of her acting cues from his Lestat, too. They were so well-matched that it was easy to believe that they were “father” and “daughter”; she seemed like a little girl version of him, inheriting more of his cruelty than his kindness, but definitely taking on both ❤

She really did lead him to believe that they had forgiven each other, and doing that one nice thing for him, to a person as starved for affection as he was… she knew it would kindle his hope for reconciliation, she KNEW that would make him the most vulnerable and YES that is pretty elite evil *cries*

Tom Hiddleston Thor Screen Test (1) (2)

reblogging for tnsears rentgirl2 and gothphyle

HOLY FUCKBALLS.

I never thought I’d agree with that one time I saw someone say Hiddleston could make a decent Lestat and I disagreed because I couldn’t ‘see’ it,, but now that I’ve seen this, I might have to change my gods damned mind.

Well he already played the vampire Adam, “a post-millennial version of that glory-hog Lestat.” (an appropriate description by Amy Nicholson) I bet he could do our Brat Prince justice!

When Claudia starts her assassination plot by bringing him a human gift, Cruise’s eyes show Lestat’s surprise that someone has finally done something nice for him for the first time in the film… In that moment, we realize that while Lestat is capable of love, he’s never been loved back.

[Amy] Nicholson astutely connects Eyes Wide Shut back to Interview with the Vampire through their intentionally strained eroticism, which serves to acknowledge the films’ respective true theme of the capitalist power that lingers under the superficial sexual roleplay. This, in turn, underlines the great irony of Cruise’s career: that his weirdest and most original performances, particularly in these two films, are often panned because they entail subtly blunt trickery that involves the deliberate assumption of cold, alienating theatrical tactics that point inward toward their own inherent falseness. These are Cruise’s most daring and revealing turns, rather than the obligatorily “relevant” performances that often win him praise.

The reasons people give for disliking Tom Cruise are getting fucking ridiculous now; it’s as though they just wanna join the train and for some reason think it’s “cool“ to hate him.

I know, right?! You should ALL read this article by Amy Nicholson. It’s not nearly enough, but it provides a compelling argument for "How YouTube and the Internet Killed Tom Cruise, America’s Last Movie Star” ;n;
