Umm… so Anne Rice released a video (the day before her birthday) on her facebook that said she’s already working on a new Lestat book to follow Atlantis. (T_T) Bless.

^I can’t embed the vid, so here’s a screencap, anyway I watched it and took notes so you don’t have to the LENGTHS I go to for you and here are my notes:

  • Many new characters in PLROA
  • Louis – not a major player but a very important player.
  • Marius – plays a significant role
  • Fareed – plays a significant role
  • Viktor – is there
  • Rose – is there
  • Has some thoughts on the changes in the writing industry
  • “The name of the game is to keep writing and keep dreaming…”
  • Probs not ever returning to Cry to Heaven, but she loved it, “How the wounded can fight, how we can redeem ourselves through art and sexuality.”
  • Into the next VC story EVEN MOAR DANGERS AND CHALLENGES that come out of the Atlantis story.
  • Mayfairs – not going back right now, but there’s active interest in Hollywood, for a quality TV series. Promising talks going on.
  • AR does alot of planning w/ her writing, but “you have to be willing to throw it all away in the process.”
  • She quotes Sandy Gustin: “God triumphs on the ruins of our plans. And I think novelists have to be ready to triumph on the ruins of their plans.”
  • She loves us all

ok mermaids aside (no, I’m not going to stop with them, ya all gettin Armand-Ariel soon) I’m actually up for Anne babbling about lost ancient civilisations? I mean, it will be bad, it will be crack, it will be kitchy and completly over the top AND I’M 100% UP FOR THIS. 

it will be Memnoch, it will be Servant of the Bones, it will be Lestat going on a spiritual journey to discover ancient vampires of Atlantis knowing the secrets of the Savage Garden. Amel was born there, he was not Egyptian to begin with. There are vampires older than Akasha.

PLROA Prediction: Princess Ariel herself will appear and claim to be a lost Mayfair bc #GINGER WITCHES FTW

… also Amel was the soul of Ariel’s dead mother so all the vampires are actually descendants of a dead mermaid and Amel was female all along #girl power

I don’t even know how to feel about the new book lmao. I’m excited that its a new book, but the premise feels…. out there? XDDDD I dunno, man, I dunno. I’ll buy it. Read it. Of course. But what a strange twist. XDDDD There’s gonna be a lot of funny fanart floating around lol

You know what’s even more hilarious to me about all this than just ATLANTIS is that the more ppl question it, the stronger I get in my belief in it as an AU fanfic, and the more I support it as such, totally against my better judgment *crying and laughing*

So I have a question that maybe you could answer? Why are people not excited for the new book? I definitely understand that the new title and storyline sounds a bit iffy but I just thought people would be excited that Anne Rice is writing new books and continuing the series. I know I’m a bit younger than most in this fandom, IWTV came out wayy before I was even born so maybe that’s why I don’t understand haha. Thanks!

Some ppl definitely ARE excited for the new book! There was alot of excitement and cautious optimism for Prince Lestat. 

I feel like I have a good perspective on this bc I have been in this fandom for 20+ years even tho book!IWTV came out before I was born, too. I’d have to ask a more veteran fandom person what it was like when they got the sequel(s) to IWTV! I got into the fandom right before the movie came out in ‘94, when we only had the first 4 books, so I looked forward to every new book with some level of excitement and that’s hard to shake even now *u*

New titles and storylines have often sounded more than a bit iffy and there has often been resistance to each new VC book. Alot of ppl didn’t think they would like TOBT or MtD, and some read those and still refuse to accept either as canon.

[X] Ppl have their own ideas of the characters in their minds. As AR continues delve into their perspectives on previous events and give them new stories in each new book, some ppl choose to “get off the bus” along the way, bc they don’t necessarily trust her vision and they don’t want to see their fave character(s) in characterization they feel is off, or forced into plots that make no sense, etc. And we can’t blame AR for this but the trainwreck that was movie!QOTD, so much was off that it was offensive, and yet, surprisingly, some ppl find that movie nostalgic! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Some ppl actually trust the fanfic writers and/or fanartists more than the author at this point, bc many of our awesome fanfic writers and fanartists learned the voices and attitudes of the characters and try to keep them in the style that drew us to them in the first place ❤

Lestat: “Louis, the truth is, the ghost that made the first vampire, well, it was an Atalantayan* and we are all in fact Atalantayans so practice your backstroke bc we’re going on a field trip to the bottom of the seeeea!”

We really don’t know much of the story, just that it involves Lestat and Atlantis, so we’ve been making alot of mermaid jokes but we have no idea whether there will be any. Check my #PLROA tag, that’s where I put stuff about it as more info comes in.

*This is the actual word in canon, allegedly. AR must be getting a bonus for extra vowels these days.
