I know what you mean, Louis would probably agree w/ you for similar (or the same!) reasons why he wants Lestat to stop writing any more books or authorizing his ghostwriter to do so.
[I just don’t want movies to cheapen it or represent the books in a bad light…]
^So I think Josh Boone is going to handle the material very respectfully, looking at the way he tagged up the Stand for that adaptation, he clearly is treating that book like it’s the Bible for that project *u* We’ll see how the Stand fandom (what do they call themselves? now I’m curious) reacts when that adaptation comes out, as my Dad says, “The proof is in the pudding.”
Anon definitely has some valid concerns, but I wouldn’t worry too much for the reasons given above from Burnadette and myself. Also, on your concern with Boone representing the books in a bad light or cheapening it, evidence has been shown on his twitter that he has been taking careful account of the series and been communicating with Anne pretty well, enough for the both of them to show love and gratitude to each other. Take this recent conversation for example:
And there are other mentions all over the place with Boone mentioning his love of the series. I think we’re in good hands 🙂
Reblogging for @firelight-fading/@phoenifia‘s comments. We don’t have a wide sample size to state it beyond doubt but we’ve seen that when AR is involved (movie!IWTV, Claudia’s Story), the VC adaptation tends to be hella better than when she’s not.
@i-want-my-iwtv Thought you and the rest of the fandom might want to see this, about 4/5 down from the new interview! Director Josh Boone basically just confirmed himself (instead of the other source I had earlier) that the new film WILL be an adaption of The Vampire Lestat, but will have tiny bits of influence from other books (I’m assuming he means IWTV and QTD). He also said he’s aiming for a trilogy AND a spin-off tv series! Super exciting!
Your synopsis was gr9, but I must have it from his own words (my highlights):
I trust this man. Why? It appear that he’s not rushing into it to make the $$$, he’s doing it bc he respects and has affection for the source material, dating back from his youth. “These were hugely inspiring books when I was young. They really helped shape me the same way [Stephen King]’s books did.”
He is totally in the VC fandom, an honorary member. He just may not know it yet ;]
LOOKIT THE WAY HE TAGGED UP THE STAND TO PREP IT FOR ADAPTATION THAT IS SOME SERIOUS FAN LOVIN’ [X]
^He’s gonna take care of us similarly ❤
Reasons (in no particular order) why I trust Josh Boone w/ this adaptation, from his IG account:
Hit the jump.
^Mentions the VC in his IG caption. It would appear that he’s honored to be part of it! Also he shares his icon pic w/ Stephen King, and really, Stephen King is also one of my faves for his amazing storytelling abilities, I mean, I just don’t even have words for what he does, but he seems to come from a similar place that AR did, they were both steeped in the horror media of their youth and he alchemizes through his own unique filter and GOLD COMES OUT. A different flavor of gold than AR’s, for sure, but they are comparable.
^He collects the old industry magazines, old publicity from the time period. He keeps himself updated on horror movie FX and topics so he’s not just gonna give us some shitty 90′s eye makeup, slap on a pair of fangs and a wierd accent and expect us to swoon. LIKE SOME MOVIES HAVE DONE.
^Like seriously he takes care of his books, and he has the nice hardcover editions.
Daddy/daughter sci fi movie night too cute. TOO CUTE. E.T. is worth 50+ viewings, absolutely.
Gonna restrain myself from suggesting he cast his adorable daughter as Claudia. But if he wanted to do it, I would certainly not stand in his way.
I have come up with a list of things I would like to see in the new Vampire Chronicles film. Any comments and thoughts are welcome! Putting most of the post under a read-more for the sake of length:
The film to be based on The Vampire Lestat with a healthy amount of flashbacks back to Interview with the Vampire, that way the unfamiliar audience understands the context in which the second book was written aren’t left too much in the dark. Completely erasing the first book out of the storyline doesn’t make much sense to me.
Possibly starting the film with bits from Daniel and Louis’ interview and fast-forwarding to Lestat resurfacing in the 80′s (once he is first mentioned)?
I willdefend Antonio 5ever and argue his case as more of a Santino/Armandmashup than intentionally Armand. The QOTD!Armand was so horrendous that I don’t even want to know that actor’s name, apologies to him, it’s not entirely his fault.
Aside from that, there are some excellent points here, check out @firelight-fading‘s ideas, and share w/ your own *u*
Oh wow, thanks kittyslover! He also has a tumblr: joshboonemovies. And perusing his archive, this guy likes EVERYTHING WE LIKE. He is steeped in Stephen King, and all kinds of other media that is VC-adjacent. I trust him.
