Wow, bold of you to consider him as a favorite! I’m rarely asked about Magnus. If I might ask, why is he one of your faves? He is like the ultimate Your Fave is Problematic bc of the way he was first introduced in canon, forcing Lestat into vampirism and all that. Lestat pretty much forgives him at this point, having tried going back to mortality and been very unhappy with it, you could say Lestat finally got to make the choice he didn’t have originally well, *sigh* a whole essay could be written about Lestat and choosing to vampire.
Magnus tells his story in Prince Lestat! That he was a great Parisian alchemist. It’s glossed over fairly quickly, there could be more to Magnus. He was in Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, we’ll probably see more of him.
There was a Magnus RPer, gone inactive now, but you might find good stuff in their archive, might reach out to any active RPers you find there: @theycallmemagnus.
well, *sigh* a whole essay could be written about Lestat and choosing to vampire.
Fortunately, someone HAS in fact written those essays! @anton-mordrid wrote an excellent piece on the themes of consent in Lestat’s character arc from IWTV through TotBT
Taking Bodies: Themes of Consent in Lestat’s Development
I totally understand your confusion, IIRC, it’s not explicitly stated in QOTD. Here’s the section heading in TVL that shows us the year for the concert:
“Lestat de Lioncourt In the year of his Resurrection 1984
Dionysus in San Francisco 1985″
The SF concert, 10/31/1985, was gonna be the first stop on the tour. Daniel is turned the night before that first concert. So there’s your info!
This is backed up by the fact that Daniel interviewed Louis sometime between 1973-5 (it was published in April of 1976), and then had a… well… let’s call it a ~long and drawn out courtship~ with Armand for some 10-12 years:
10 years ago: ”And what would a mortal lover matter then, a human who’d been no more than a toy for a decade?” -QOTD
12+ years ago: “…an old crumpled royalty check for the book Interview with the Vampire, which he had “written” under a pseudonym over twelve years ago.”
omg that last ask took alot out of me, and I wouldn’t answer my other, friendlier asks till that one was done. So if you have an unanswered ask, have patience, mes
I’ve always found Marius’ complete ideological 180 at the end of TVA (and presumably carrying over into his foul mood in BaG) really confusing. But rereading bits of QotD it occurred to me that Marius’ speech to Armand explaining his loss of faith has a lot of similarities with Akasha’s speech when explaining why humanity is inherently evil and overdue for a cull.
I’ve already talked about this with a few of you guys but i-want-my-iwtv thought I should still make a proper post with quotes and things, so here goes.
