Well, it seems we’ve come to the end of the road.

image

I can’t say enough to thank the whole VC fandom here for all the good times we had, I can never fully repay what a great experience it’s been for me! I’m not deleting this blog, and the @vcsecretgifts exchange is still up and running, we’ll try to keep it on this crumbling hellsite as long as we can. We’re setting up a Dreamwidth comm vcsecretgifts where we’ll be crossposting the works. We’ll also try to move the archive of older gifts there.

image

(^Anyone is welcome to use this gif, btw.)

Was I a pillar of the fandom? All I wanted for this blog was to be a collection of fanwork when it was so hard to find, and then encourage the creation of more of it. Now, when the the fandom is exploding with new fanart, writing, RP, meta, and other fanworks, that’s when the ship has started sinking. It’s upsetting, but fandom will go on, we’ll migrate somewhere.

I’m not planning on archiving this tumblr blog anywhere that anyone will be able to view it. I might try to get it on wordpress, but at nearly 15,000 posts from July 2013 to now, it’s a lot of material to try to move. So take what you can from it.

>Twitter: i_want_my_iwtv and iwantmyiwtv. (I’m not really a twitter person, but it’ll serve as a way to stay in touch with me.)

Seeing as we may all be purged soon, I’m going to try to clear out my queue soonish (so there may be blasts of a lot of posts), and try to get responses back to some older messages and asks. I’ll probably save most of them for response somewhere else, though. I’m sorry that it took me so long, I thought we had more time… Some of these asks are years old! *facepalm*

You have my permission to save/download anything from my blog, it would be nice if you kept my username, with or without dashes, if you repost.

One final request – as we migrate away to new platforms, we’ll be looking for our old friends, by their old names, and it would be cruel to take these names and impersonate others. I had parked several variations of this blog name here, but I can’t park them all on all platforms. If anyone parks my name, please send it to me w/ the login credentials.

If anyone claims to be me, come find me at Twitter, and I’ll clarify whether it’s me or not.

You made these last 5+ years so much fun, and I hope we find each other on new platform(s)!

Anyone, VC fandom or otherwise, is welcome to comment/reblog this and add their other platforms.

How to Backup your Tumblr

thepirateking:

fiction-is-not-reality:

I was just semi-complaining that I was still looking for a decent way to backup my +6k posts without having to use paid services or even just wordpress (which has an import from tumblr tool that asks for permission to access your blog and also make posts), when I decided to actually put some effort into my google search.

Results were positive: I have successfully backed up my blog

*By which I mean: everything that I have ever posted
Not included: drafts, queue, likes, followers, following, comments, notes, chat.

I followed this method (word by word), and now have a 450 MB folder on my computer with the name of my blog on it containing:

1. Folder “Archive” (contains .html files listed by month)
2. Folder “Media” (contains gifs and images, mine has +1k files in it; might contain also audios but I have no way of confirming that because I’ve never reblogged an audio post from this blog)
3. Folder “Posts” (contains single .html files, each one a post; I have +4k files in it)
4. Folder “Theme” (contains only my avatar, but it might be a matter of if you have personalized themes or not)
5. .html file “Index” (by opening it it will give you the archive of your blog organized by month; clicking on a month will open up the archive for that month, and you’ll be able to read all the posts for that month as if you were on your blog**, except sans your theme graphic, with each page containing 50 posts)

**I can see gifs, links, embedded videos, tags, number of notes (but I can’t open up the notes, clearly), text is also correctly formatted.

So yeah, in case anyone wants a very quick way to back up their blog, it took me less than 10 minutes.

P.S. I didn’t have any issue, but to be on the safe side always check for spyware and virus threats before and after downloading anything.

this is actually really useful if you have an art blog full of years of work that you otherwise no longer have access to the original files. A lot of the art I have in the early days of my art blog are in that boat. I did this process JUST for that reason and I was pretty astonished at just how many pieces of media it backs up! (literally all of it) Drawings I didn’t even realize were sitting in my archive due to having been posted to text posts or undercuts, or untagged for years! It’s worth it if just for that, even if tumblr isn’t shutting down or deleting your blog.

Back up your stuff, ppl. Reach out to those you want to stay connected to so you know other platforms to find them on. *sigh*

@i-want-my-iwtv

Ah! It’s mah face! I love this so so much! Looks like a painting from a different era… you can see my lil lateral fangs, shhhh…. I love how they captured my asymmetry in such a beautiful and rich way, infused it with my spirit. I’ve always felt that portraits are a much better representation of one’s face than a selfie, bc the artist makes choices to construct the face of their subject, building it from nothing, like writing a story, whereas cameras (especially on phones with such short depth of field) have no human behind them, no empathy for their subject. A talented photographer can use a camera to do that, of course, but I digress…

This was a commission I paid the amazingly talented @vaciel for, and now I need to another one from them!! bc reasons. If you have the $, I highly recommend this wonderful artist, they are a pleasure to work with ❤

I just feel like you’d love knowing this but my best purchase ever has been my dvd copy of IWTV

Awww, that’s correct, I do love knowing this! Your bio says you’re a Criminology major, that’s so cool! Now I know who to go to for planning the perfect crime(s).

You didn’t ask for this but here it goes: I was under 17 when movie!IWTV first came out on VHS

(yes I’m that old), I was around 11. I’d read several of the first books, and I wanted that movie BADLY. I coordinated a school friend to get it for me, like contraband, I had to sneak that VHS tape into my house, immediately stripped it of its labels, saved them with my little binder of articles I collected at the time about the movie, and relabeled the tape “Forrest Gump” so that my parents wouldn’t know I had it. Thankfully they never asked to borrow my copy of that movie! That was probably what I considered my best purchase ever, at the time. I watched it when I was home alone now and then, and I’d bring it over to a few friends’ houses, where we’d try to say the lines along with the movie, so that battered old tape really meant a lot to me. It’s where my nostalgia for the movie was born, so as problematic as it is, I have so much affection for it.

Obviously, there was a Forbidden Fruit quality to that, hiding it like I did, and the fact that I wasn’t allowed to watch it, made me want it that much more!

Lestat probably doesn’t like that movie!IWTV is so popular, he’d rather ppl moved on to his book… [digging up an oldie from the archive for ya:]

Cab Stand at Madison Square Garden, 1900 by Sanna Dullaway

I just bought this as a canvas print for my new office, I love it! I wanted to commission some fanart for the office but didn’t want to explain why I have a portrait of a hot blonde guy or a gorgeous dark-haired guy, or a portrait of them both…

This looks to me like a photo Armand coordinated, sending a mortal out during the day to take pics in an area of New York City that he liked at night, and then Armand colorizing that photo by hand. So it’s a teensy VC reference for me while still being wholly appropriate for public display ^_______^

More stuff about when I was a kid. When I was around 6, I would often go to hospitals with a relative of mine who worked in the medical field, and I’d be left in the waiting room while they worked. I was happy with this bc I’d get copy paper from the nurses and draw pictures with highlighters and whatever was around, and pass out these drawings to the people in the waiting room, and I did it because I wanted to bring a little cheer to them. People are anxious when visiting the doctor, they’re worried that there’s something wrong with them and it will be upsetting to find out, or that the thing that is wrong with them isn’t getting better and they’re about to be told that, and it’s going to hurt. It’s usually an unnaturally brightly lit place, it’s usually pretty sparse. People are afraid of surgical tools, needles, (the scale!), there’s prodding and the personal questions, sometimes there are people suffering within eyesight/earshot. It’s not a fun place, typically.

But to have some 6 yr old hand you a drawing of a cartoon character, even if it’s not drawn very well, it’s touching. I don’t think anyone ever rejected my drawings or acted rudely to me, or if they did, I just moved on and went about my business and made more drawings for other people. For the most part, I remember people being glad, and their sadness being alleviated for at least that little interaction when I handed them a drawing I’d made just for them, to keep. I didn’t care if they threw those drawings away or saved them.

So I think that’s what I’m still doing when I make art or write stories, even if it’s not good art, even if it’s progressed to scary stories, not all fluff and sparkles. An escape from reality for just a little while. I’ve seen art and read fic that’s done that for me in a powerful way and I couldn’t be more grateful to those who make fanworks for giving me that little break from reality.

I think this is why I’m so supportive of people who make fanworks. If the fanwork is not to my taste, I don’t say so, I don’t critique unless asked by the original creator to do so, there’s plenty more art and fic out in the world and I’ve found it, plenty of it that I personally like and share with others so that they can enjoy it, too, and I don’t expect anything to conform to my own personal ideals of what it should be.

If I was handed a drawing from a 6 yr old, grinning up at me and hoping I liked it, I could never see it as anything but a gift.

And thinking about all that now, that relative was helping the patients medically, and I wanted to be like that, with the skills I had to offer. I wanted to help people.

Congrats on the new job ❤️❤️❤️

Thank u!

Sorry for the delay in reply, I was wrapping things up at the old job and starting the new one, wanted to focus on real life for all that.

I’m still sort of on a break but sneaking back on here now and then. I hope you’re doing well, too!

I don’t think I’ll ever be as active as I once was in my more active times here, I’m not as invested in it as I was, but I’m really pleased to see that other ppl have kept the fandom alive, all this new fanart from IWTV and QOTD being on Netflix and the new book coming out, others have taken up the fanworks supportive torch that I had been carrying, I’m happy to see the fandom active!

There’s this… phenomenon… I’ve witnessed in several fandoms, where a particular blog gets really popular within a fandom.

And suddenly that blog will start getting people literally asking them for permission to hold certain opinions. I don’t mean someone just asking “hey can I get your feelings/opinions on this subject” but “is it okay if I think/do xyz?” like some child asking their parent if they can go somewhere.

Worse, is when these blogs start taking these questions seriously and feeding them answers. Like they suddenly start believing that they truly have this authority. I mean it’s bad enough when people do this and the blogger is just like “well I have my own opinion but don’t ask me” but when they start to actually act like they can tell other people what they are “allowed” to do.

This I the creepiest fucking thing on tumblr I swear.

Why would you give some random stranger on the internet that much power over your mind? Why would you be so afraid of forming your own opinions that you have to ask someone else to give you opinions to hold?

And so often they end up with a rabble ready to crucify anyone who doesn’t do as they are told, and that’s when I really run for the hills…

It probably looks a little egotistical to reblog this post, as someone who relates to having the “particular blog gets really popular within a fandom,” but I deeply agree with this post from both sides. It has been suggested to me privately that my opinions hold sway over people and I have a responsibility to answer a certain way so that the other fans aren’t led astray, that they are so gullible that they take my every word as fact. I sincerely hope that this is not the case.

I refuse this responsibility bc that’s not the kind of blog I want to have. I don’t want anyone taking my opinions as an authority, or the Law of the Land or whatever… *~popularity~* shouldn’t give me any more authority than anyone else!

Please don’t feel like you have to literally ask anyone for permission to hold certain opinions. I’m happy to share my ideas, but they are only my ideas. I’m a random stranger on the internet! I love my followers, the interactions we’ve had, the messages you’ve sent me publicly and privately over the past few years have kept my blog alive, and I can’t thank you enough for that ❤

But! If I can just paraphrase from the above, Do not give some random stranger on the internet that much power over your mind! Don’t be so afraid of forming your own opinions that you have to ask someone else to give you opinions to hold!

Please do not become part of some random stranger on the internet’s rabble ready to crucify anyone who doesn’t do as they are told!

Was watching movie!Queen of the Damned w/ @roselioncourt yesterday and we caught this little thing… Mojo made it into the movie! Different form than in canon, but hey, it counts.

Got through most of the movie and then had to pause it with 30 min left, but you know, each time I watch it there are things that I begrudgingly admit that I really like, ok?? I do. Reblog/comment on this post with love for movie!Queen of the Damned, it’s what Mojo would want ❤

(A little personal note under the cut)

// It was a good day. I’ve got on the polka dots. This is taken before the torture of Queen of the Damned.

You don’t want to see the After picture of me… lol j/k! Like I said, it improves every time I see it, also, we’d just had Ethiopian food and I got to eat with my fingers and gross poor @roselioncourt out, so technically I tortured her first >;}

…And isn’t that what real friendship is about? Being annoying and torturing eachother? Lestat taught me that ❤

Also our makeup game was on point, look at those brows on fleek, oui?
