//okay but honestly how cool would it be if Louisâ dark gift was empathy all along??? Like, he obviously had the hardest time getting used to killing- harder than pretty much any other vampire we know of. And like, we know that when vampires feed, they kinda connect with the spirit of their victim- but what if Louis could do that without feeding? Like, he canât read their thoughts, but what if he could feel their souls? What if he truly does have âthe gift of knowing othersâ sufferingâ???
And Lestat brushes it off like âlol ur just an emotional fledgling, chill outâ and then Louis never ends up telling anyone about it lol and doesnât bother mentioning it to Daniel bc he doesnât think itâs important
This is really interesting, and Armand and Vittorio can do this to an extent, so it does exist in universe that you can kinda feel peopleâs souls/auras. Itâs also telling when Armand mentions how Louis can spellbind people by accident haha. So yeah I could totally see him having some other version of telepathy that isnât strictly verbal and maybe just never know how to articulate it.Â
Youâre remembering it correctly, Louis didnât really test his own powers in IWTV in the way that youâre describing bc he was too busy existential angsting :[
He doesnât seem to have gotten any substantial powers anyway, being Lestatâs 3rd fledgling and made such a short period of time after Lestatâs 2nd fledgling. There is also some speculation that the blood transfer needs to be exchanged more than once (how it was done w/ Louis) to ensure a stronger fledgling. Marius, for example, exchanged blood with his maker multiple times when he was turned.
A maker needs to wait a good long while between making fledglings; too much frequency will make subsequent fledglings weaker than they could have been. Plus, even though Lestat had the blood of a much older and stronger vampire when he was turned, Lestat himself was only a decade into vampiring himself. It seems the vampiric spirit discourages the transfer of powers from young vampires to their fledglings.Â
Armand did coerce Louis into climbing up a building once, tho!
â`Listen to me; we are going to climb to the tower,â
Armand was saying.âÂ
`I cannot . . itâs impossible ⊠I-âÂ
âYou donât begin to know your own powers. You can climb easily. Remember, if you fall you will not be injured. Do as I do.â â
And he did climb it, but he didnât seem all that thrilled about doing so.Â
Lestat tells us in TVL:
âI never revealed to
him half my powers, and with reason, because he shrank in guilt and
self-loathing from using even half of his own.â
Louis says to Armand in IWTV:
âI donât see our
life as powers and gifts. I see it as a curse. I havenât the courage to die.â
In later canon, we still donât see Louis testing his powers, but itâs fanon that he has some and seems to have no interest in exploring them.
Thereâs fanon that his sense of smell is stronger than the other vampires, so thatâs something!
More under the cut. Cut for length, also mild spoilers.
In TVL, Louis does admit he felt something when Akasha was in the neighborhood, so either he was sensing Akasha or sensing what other vampires were able to sense of her:
âI donât have your powers,â he said unobtrusively, ânevertheless I felt
this thing. And I tell you it was alien, utterly uncivilized, for want of a
better word.â
Armand describes Louisâ lack of powers here in TVA:
ââŠunable to read minds, or to levitate, or
to spellbind others except inadvertently, which can be hilarious, an
immortal with whom mortals fall in love.â
Marius considers upgrading Louis in QOTD: but he is not authorized and you know Lestat would throw the hugest tantrum if it happened
This one was so gifted yet not gifted at the same time; [Marius] wondered if the human light would go out of
Louisâs eyes if he ever gained more power, if he ever had, for instance, a little of the blood of Marius in his
veinsâŠÂ
Just a little blood, and Louis might be stronger, true, but then he might lose
the human tenderness, the human wisdom that no one could give another; the gift of knowing othersâ
suffering with which Louis had probably been born.â
ahahaha what a question! xDD well, let me think. Santa Armand. Apparently coming only to the very naughty adults. He is not about to punish them, however, he might bring a whip. Just sayin. đ
Here is an incomplete list of whatâs in his bag:
few fat rolls of $100 bills and some checks
a blender
5 different digital cameras
Broadway and opera tickets for next season, best seats
plane tickets to random places all over the world
a set of keys. Probably some luxurious apartment. Or a space ship. Who knows. Not me.
Some famous painting. Probably stolen
a few large diamonds, no big deal
there might be a dead body there (or two) but that shouldnât concern you
Santa Armand has great gift ideas for everyone on your list ;]
â I must confess, Anonyme, that this response took me some time as Louis and I spent most of our conscious hours on Christmas Eve and the night thereafter in each otherâs arms, either curled together on the couch by the fire reading favorite poetry aloud, lazing in the tub w/ those new bath soaps that tint liquid into a galaxy, tangled in the sheets⊠you get the idea. My arms and hands were quite unavailable for any social networking >;}
As for physical gifts, there are already too many holidays in the year that seem geared towards one or the other of us (Louisâs birthday merits the entire night revolving around him), beside the fact that we give each other little gifts year-round when the mood strikes us, as many couples do.Â
Most years I give him a number of gag gifts, anything to make him laugh out loud. Even an admonishing smirk is worth a particularly tasteless gift. Par example:
