đšÂ Vampire Chronicles Aesthetics: Lestat/Nicki
âHe reached out and put his arm around my neck and kissed me. We almost upset the table we were so blissfully drunk. âMy lord, the wolfkiller, â he whispered.â

For those of you who tuned in for our chat on casting in regards to VC TV, here are some of the people we mentioned, and also some people that have been mentioned by various magazines and of course by Anne and POTP.
1. Douglas Booth (The Riot Club, Jupiter Ascending)Â
2. Jamie Campbell Bower (Mortal Instruments, Will)Â
3. Sam Heughan (Outlander)
4. Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers, Stranger Things)Â Â
5. Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men, Twin Peaks)Â
6. Reeve Carney (Penny Dreadful)
7. Sean Keenan (Glitch)
8. Kivanç Tatlitug (some Turkish dancing and singing) He was Anneâs fave for a while (LMAO why are you laughingâŚ)Â
Who do you think should play Lestat?Â
anyone who thinks Jamie Bower canât be Lestat can kiss my ass because this is 100% Lestat content.
So I normally don’t play the casting game, but I just watched the first two episodes of Will on TNT — a glam/punk telling of Shakespeare’s early career — and Christopher Marlow is so VERY Lestat to me. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, and maybe it’s just me, but wow. The actor is Jamie Campbell Bower. I’d send you a link but it won’t let me.
FIRST and foremost, one of the Lestat RPers who still uses JCB as a face claim, @cdf-archiveâ (now known as @couer-de-feu, tumblr isnât hyperlinking it OH WELL) wrote up a gr9 post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt under the cut. Â
I feel ya, I find that playing the casting game is hard bc ppl can be really dismissive of actors, pointing out what they think are physical limitations of the actors, or whatever, itâs easy to nitpick based on our own ideals of beauty.
A great performance is more than just the actorâs looks, itâs the harmony of every film crew memberâs job done well, from the grips, to the sound ppl, to the costume ppl, to the director, and so on, not just the actors. But talking VC casting can be fun to see which of our choices are shared by others â¤Â
So YEAH, JCB was a somewhat popular FC for Lestat RPers at one time, so your opinion is/was shared by others! Iâm gonna reblog a few pieces of fanart after I post this that are basically JCB as Lestat, so stay tuned đ EDIT: I have fanart of Paul Boche as Lestat, not JCB! Iâll reblog those. But can someone send me some Lestat fanart based on JCB? I feel like Iâve seen it but canât remember whereâŚ

^I donât have a joke to go with this, Iâd made it
aaaages ago
for @coeur-de-feu. Maybe itâs Lestat reacting to coming home to a Louis dressed only in a sheer green scarf, surrounded by piles of red roses, for Lestatâs birthday or smtg, lol.Â
I havenât seen Will yet but it looks like an intriguing and snazzy take on Shakespeare! Admittedly, I have not been a huge fan of Jamie Campbell Bower, bc I havenât seen the stuff heâs been in, Iâm not a YA fan⌠from the pics Iâve seen of JCB he has seemed too skinny/bony for my own headcanon of Lestat (and I admit thatâs based on my own ideals of beauty)-
BUT BUT BUT, these pics of him from Will are looking, actually, very #Lestatuesque to me!

^Like, maybe itâs the hair*, the lighting, the expression, etc., (a combination probably) idk what it is, but his face seems less HELLO CHEEKBONE now for some reason? Heâs very Lestat here, to me. Like heâs in thrall, listening to Nicki playing violin music.Â
*The hair would need SOME more styling and highlights but JCB being a natural blond (I think?) should make it easier to brighten his hair up than it was for Tom, who has never been able to pull off a really bright blond in any movie I can remember (even the silver looked kinda strange in Collateral but I digressâŚ)

[^XÂ from @foreverjamiecampbellbower] ^Even here, yes, JCB has cheekbones you could slice your hand open on, but maybe the stubble is also just, giving that jawline and generous mouth the attention they deserve? IDK itâs working for me!
I think JCB has enough of the physical part nailed down that the rest can be built on his performance. Tom had limitations appearance-wise, too, but the acting won ppl over who donât even like him in any other roles.Â
This is already a long-ish post so for more of my thoughts on him, hit up my #jamie campbell bower tag.
Also, hit the jump for a quote from @cdf-archive/@coeur-de-feu that I think is relevant here.
The fact is, we all have our own ideals of beauty and our own headcanon of these characters. Itâs highly unlikely that one actor will satisfy all of our expectations, and @cdf-archive wrote up a great post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt below:
âThere will always be inconsistencies, everywhere you look. But itâs not really even whether or not I find him perfect. Itâs his imperfections that make him perfect, to me. And perhaps thatâs what Magnus found in Lestat – his imperfections gave him an indescribable yet authentic beauty and Magnus wanted to immortalize those features by turning Lestat into a vampire, even though Lestat did not want it. It was okay with Magnus that Lestat had a few things here and there that werenât completely perfect; he found him extraordinarily beautiful, regardless.â

(btw you can send links like this: www(.)website(.)com/www[.]website[.]com, any variation that hides the â.â, while it wonât come through as a /clickable/ link, itâs still a link for reference)
What do you think about Jamie Campbell Bower to play Lestat? I think he’s somewhat perfect – and he can sing! He’s got the hair too (sometimes!).

JCB was a somewhat popular FC for Lestat RPers at one time, so your opinion is/was shared by others!

^He already played a vampire in Twilight, but I didnât see that⌠Idk if heâd be willing to play another vampire. He looks good in period costume, Iâll admit that, and the makeup/hair team really transformed him. This is 100% better vampiry appearance than QOTD!Lestat (but thatâs setting the bar preeeetty low, ROFL).
Personally, I find JCB too thin, so bony, such angular features⌠but I havenât seen his acting so itâs unfair to judge him just superficially. He has a lot of theatre experience and he seems quite charming from his quotes on his IMDB page. He might be great! I would definitely screen-test him if I was in charge of things.

[^XÂ I will say that these are some excellent silly faces and our Lestat has to be able to pull of his easy sense of humor, too!]Â
The fact is, we all have our own ideals of beauty and our own headcanon of these characters. Itâs highly unlikely that one actor will satisfy all of our expectations, and @cdf-archive (now @coeur-de-feu) was a Lestat RPer who used JCB as a FC, and they wrote up a great post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt below:Â

Also, check out @cdf-archiveâs actual archive to see more pics of JCB, some of them are good promos in a VC-aesthetic which you might like!Â
No Jamie Campbell Bower??? Pffffft. :P My Lestat is like “…. *DISAPPOINTED*”
ahhh I’m sorry! I knew I would disappoint smne! It was already such a long post… ;A;
I think the FC pics/gifs you use in your RP of him are fitting, I guess my headcanon of Lestat is so thoroughly saturated with Tom Cruise that I’m sorta unable to be objective about this fresh batch of actors/models/etc. who could fill those heeled boots!
JCB is definitely Lestatuesque in his own way. I feel like he’s a little sharp around the edges, but still fits with my headcanon of Lestat that, still having the physique of a hunter, he was lean and streamlined. I feel like I would want JCB a little softer… just a little from all that wine and bread in Paris, maybe! Overall huggable and lovable â¤Â
Here I made this for ya… couldn’t think of a joke so just take it as-is đ

JCB “Lestat Chronicles”
My brain decided to have another epiphany so here we go.
Some people donât like Jamie Campbell Bower as Lestat because âhe looks too weirdâ. Â
I am going to point out that Lestat was born in the late 1700s. Many of you already knew this, of course. However, something people fail to keep in mind is that back then, modern medicine, cosmetology, and dentistry did not exist yet.
You would be extremely lucky to have what today considers âperfect teethâ, where they are stark-white and completely straight, free of cosmetic blemishes.
As someone that has had braces in her past to fix a rather nasty snaggletooth problem, I can vouch for the fact that how your teeth look in an âarchitectural senseâ, affects the way the rest of your face looks as well. It affects your jawline and most importantly, your side profile. My two front incisors used to overlap and I looked very odd, to say the least. I think I still look a little odd, but not really in a bad way. After I got my braces off, my side profile changed completely because my teeth gave me a slight overbite because of how they sat. What I lack in some areas of âaesthetically pleasingâ features, I make up for in others.
Why is this included in here, of all places? Because it provides a scientific viewpoint which others might overlook. Do you recall how dirty Louis and Claudiaâs teeth were in the movie for Interview with the Vampire and how their transformations whitened their teeth and enhanced their natural beauty? Vampirism takes what is naturally beautiful about you, and enhances it to as perfect as it can get.
To say that Lestat was âaesthetically perfectâ in every way as a mortal would be entirely unrealistic, to me. Nobodyâs face claim is going to be âperfectâ for Lestat, not even Jamie Campbell Bower.Â
There will always be inconsistencies, everywhere you look. But itâs not really even whether or not I find him perfect. Itâs his imperfections that make him perfect, to me. And perhaps thatâs what Magnus found in Lestat – his imperfections gave him an indescribable yet authentic beauty and Magnus wanted to immortalize those features by turning Lestat into a vampire, even thought Lestat did not want it. It was okay with Magnus that Lestat had a few things here and there that werenât completely perfect; he found him extraordinarily beautiful, regardless.
Personality has a lot of importance to me when choosing face claims for the characters I portray. The reason people like RPing with my characters is my characterization and attention to detail. I try my best to bring the people I write to life in the most accurate way I possibly can, taking into consideration how much I know about that character. Some people I have written with in the past have poor characterization and that in itself makes it hard for me to write with certain individuals. I feel like Iâm talking to the writer, not the character.
While I have seen a lot of wonderful face claims for Lestat, and all of them are beautiful in their own ways to me (especially Jeremy Dufour), I like Jamie because he has a TON of videos, pictures and gifs where I can look at them and say âI see Lestat, thereâ. The other face claims are nice too, but some of them are obscure enough to where they donât have barely any pictures.
Letâs be real here, people. Lestat is, or would be, a total camera whore.
Anyway, that concludes my little essay and another section of my silly little âWhy I Use JCB For Lestat Chroniclesâ.
“There will always be inconsistencies, everywhere you look. It was okay with Magnus that Lestat had a few things here and there that werenât completely perfect; he found him extraordinarily beautiful, regardless.”
“TL;DR” no really this is a valid point and well-voiced!
