Someone who’s a graphic designer help me.
Anyway, here is a fake tourist shirt graphic for the goofiest hangout in all of The Vampire Chronicles, Daniel and Armand’s home, Night Island.
Edit: There is only one of these and Daniel made it for himself to be a pest.

As someone who is deeply in love with VC, but behind on reading and lacking time…I’m a little embarrassed to ask…but what is Night Island? Is it an actual island? What’s the history there? Who owns an island? What do they do there? Or is it like a mini Vampire island/country, is there a king? Thanks in advance!
There’s no shame in asking for a refresher on a canon thing ;] While I can’t give you the full history (check out the Vampire Companion for that), in brief:
Night Island was built by the vampire Armand as a gift to his mortal lover Daniel Molloy, to share w/ Daniel, and it is vividly described in Queen of the Damned. I gather that it is in fact a complex built on a man-made island (which does not exist IRL sorries) off the shore of Miami, Florida, USA. Daniel describes it as such:
“And Armand, he was probably roaming the dimly lighted rooms of the villa, steps away from the tourists and the shoppers, yet utterly cut off by steel doors and white walls – a sprawling palace of floor-length windows and broad balconies, perched over white sand. Solitary, yet near to the endless commotion, its vast living room facing the twinkling lights of the Miami shore.”
“… the Night Island, Armand’s own personal creation with its five dazzling glass stories of theaters, restaurants, and shops.”

[^This will be yer face if you visit there]
It’s meant to be a kind of universe of funtimes, where mortals can enjoy all kinds of entertainment, so it’s a big source of revenue for Armand, but more importantly, it’s where the coven gather and bond over a short period of time after a really harrowing shared adventure.
SADNESS IS THE CUTEST LITTLE THING AND I’LL NEVER BE OVER HER
She’s talking about Night Island in Miami, of course.
VC Merch
BUT THINK ABOUT IT
Vampire Lestat concert tees for all.
And think of the tacky shit we can do. Like I’m talking tacky in the best and most shameless way possible. Honestly this all needs to happen
“On Wednesdays we wear red velvet”
Night Island shirts/mugs/keyrings/ touristy shit.
Shirts that say “Gorgeous Fiend” and “Team Lestat”
//“You can pretend it’s wine” on a mug
“Devil’s minion” “Paint me with black wings” “No made by human hands” (or however that quote was) on T-shirts
Also “Blood wife” and “Blood husband” towels
#AGREES AGGRESSIVELY

^Something like this? Hmmmm? by remarried
A quick search yields lots of bland or bad VC merch, probably unauthorized (hit the jump for it, but be warned, it’s not all that tasteful):

^A baby bodysuit
[cafepress.com] saying “I would BLEED for Lestat” ?? Gross. And yet, it’s for sale, $19.99. Does anyone really want their baby offering itself to bleed for Lestat?? Pretty sure he wouldn’t approve he did eat a baby once but that was a very awkward moment and wayyyy in the past.

The fact that such tasteless things as these exist, and are for sale, makes me think AR doesn’t know (or doesn’t care?) about them.
OR, since “Lestat” is an actual name (it actually did exist before AR used it), it’s not under copyright protection in the way that “Sherlock Holmes” or “Batman” is, being completely original creations. I’ve done alot of research on this and the best answer I can find is that it would depend on whether AR chose to pursue someone for doing it, and whether the courts would decide whether the fanworks were infringing (detrimental) to her fictional character and/or sales of the novels themselves.
If anything, I feel like fanworks would promote her series and the courts would find in favor of the fanartists on this matter.
Use your own judgment. I would LOVE to make and promote VC merch, but IT IS treading on thin ice to do so.
(lmao two of these photos are candids and involve fussing at my cat. guess which!)
i went to a big festival & craft fair in my hometown a few weeks ago with my sister and i made her something cute to wear but i wanted something too! so naturally, i made a nerdy t-shirt ;D
not only a nerd shirt, but a faux very 80s but tasteful Night Island tourist shirt. the first time i wore it with some mint shorts/a big black hat (not pictured) vacation grandma chic
