Do vampires go on dates? What happens? Murder? Movies?

vagabonddaniel-recordedarchives:

Oh, yes. We get each other corsages and flowers and then go out on the town in matching suits to be as conspicuous as possible.

“Do devils love each other? Do they walk arm in arm in hell saying, "Ah, you are my friend, how I love you,” things like that to each other?“ – The Vampire Lestat

i honestly think rose added to the otherwise very male-dominated story by having her own pov chapters, and i thought her story was kind of a nice side thing?? maybe thats just me lmao

ooc; Ehhh, she just felt very out of place, we got literally no explanation as to of who she was and why Lestat was there (which I guess we might get that in Blood Paradise), and her story read very much like Mary Sue fanfiction I would have read when I was twelve years old on fanfiction.net.  But, of course, as I’ve stated before, Lestat himself is a Mary Sue, so I guess I can’t put a whole lot of judgement there.

I think my issue with Rose is just that I don’t see what she actually gave to the story.  She seemingly had a major part, yet I feel like if she was subtracted from it all, the story would remain the same.  Anne’s guilty of doing this thing where she introduces a bunch of new characters, yet never actually fleshes out any of her previous characters.  We got all of this stuff about Rose, and yet we had chapters where Armand, Bianca, and Daniel were all within the same house and didn’t even acknowledge each other’s existence.  Hell, Armand was practically not there throughout most of the book.  And I would have honestly taken chapters of Bianca explaining what she’s been up to over Rose’s seemingly random story.

But that’s also just my opinion.

Same. I have a problem with throwing in a pointless female character just to have more ladies. Especially when you’re literally adding 6 or 7 people to the cast (or bringing them back from the dead). A lot of the stories were redundant or totally pointless (Killer… Cyril?) but Rose not only felt exactly like a low-rent Mona or weird new Jesse, she never serves any purpose or does anything interesting (this is also true of several of the men, especially Killer.. why Killer? We don’t care. We liked Baby Jenks, not this dick.) We’re supposed to care about her because we’re told Lestat and Louis do, but that’s it. It’s just not enough. If I were her editor, I’d have begged her to cut the Rose stuff for the sake of pacing. There’s no immediate need to pair Vikki up with anyone.

And yes, if she wanted to add more ladies, Gabrielle was a bad ass – give her a chapter. Lestat is her son. We would care way more about her. Or Bianca! She’s seeing Armand for the first time in forever, seeing his fledgling for the first time, etc. etc. So many better options with established characters we already care about.

That said, I get why people might like Rose. If she was a side-story, if she were part of a different book, she has some potential. Like Jesse, a girl raised unknowningly by vampires in some fashion is a cool concept. I just feel like it didn’t fit at all in this book. It needed more explanation and characterization than it got.

I agree with you. Looking back, I liked Rose/her story well enough (though I felt she had too little personality) until she was treated as being irreparably!broken! by the knowledge of vampires – I’m sorry, she lived through all that horrible abuse at the school, but semi-sleeping through Lestat cutting off Rhosh’s hand and arm is the thing that breaks her? As someone once said, puh-leeze, babycakes!

Also, Lestat of all people ought to know after what happened to Nicki that turning someone who’s having a mental breakdown involving vampires is not an automatic solution!

ooc: I have this headcanon that Daniel is a really good juggler. Like, he started in college to have something to do with his hands and maybe to show off a little. It became sort of a habit.

So now when there are three of something handy, he’ll just sort of pick them up and start juggling, sometimes without thinking about it at all, or sometimes—again—to have something to do with this hands. And obviously this drives Armand crazy. Especially if said objects are insanely valuable and rare art.

[I know you’re busy as hell right now with real life stuff so I just want to send you some virtual hugs and thank you for making all of the hilarious memes and graphics. They make me laugh so hard. <3]

omg thank u! Much appreciated. Notes like these give me such joy.

If you are interested in where I’ve been, hit the jump…

I started a new job 2 weeks ago… the lead up to it was a month of difficulty, because I had to complete the interview process for the new place (3 interviews!), train my replacement, and tie up loose ends at my old job. Needless to say there were alot of unpaid late nights and I was too exhausted to do much fandom.
And then, of course, Prince Lestat dropped. So I’ve been trying to read that slowly and painfully, to comb out little gems. There are bits and lines here and there that are actually good. I’ll be pulling them and sharing them at some point. If you guys think that entire book is a trainwreck, you’re not wrong, but I play the Devil’s Advocate about EVERYTHING, so this is included. I do see little glimmers of the Lestat we know and love in there… I’ll be sharing those bits when I can do so.
Along those lines, I’m thinking of starting a new Dreamwidth account purely for my thoughts on PL and any other new books in the series… and I’ll link to new posts there. I owe you guys recaps of my PL read.
Ya, so that’s my story! Thought you might want to know what happened to me. I still need to figure out a balance between fandom and RL. It’ll happen.

In case you were wondering

In b4 someone writes tentacle porn

but what about iPhone?!

iPhone appears 22 times. Which is a lot considering no one knows how to use one.

What do humans who have been drinking and/or taking drugs actually taste like? Can you really get a second hand high/drink from them?

vagabonddaniel-recordedarchives:

They taste tainted. No, that’s not quite it.

You know when you make a rum and coke and, if there’s a decent amount of rum, you can still taste the alcohol through the cola? It’s like that. It’s still blood but there’s a bit of an off taste to it, diluted but still noticeable.

And yes, we can get drunk if there’s enough of it in the blood. We can get high, too, depending on how the drug is metabolized and how stoned the person is. But like a human drinking rum, we have to drink enough of it to make a difference. A little drink from someone who’s only had one beer, for example, would do next to nothing.
