I’m pretty sure the reason for no fanfiction is because Anne Rice doesn’t want people to write fanfiction for her books and characters. She says she doesn’t like the idea so sites like fanfic won’t let people publish it.

Oh I do know this, very well. I first read the books in 1993, and was well aware of her War on Fanfic at that time. She did manage to wipe out tons of it with Cease & Desist letters. The rest of it went underground. It still exists, but in more protected places.

So I don’t want to go into a discussion about fanfic, especially whether it should be allowed or not, bc it’s too big a topic… but I am personally supportive of it, I love to read it, I think fanfic is harmless to the canon of an author’s work, it’s even helpful at times, in offering a different perspective on the characters, fills in the interstices of the canon, so many good things.

Here’s more on the types of fanfic, since I just posted it: http://i-want-my-iwtv.tumblr.com/post/73169740623/wheres-that-damn-types-of-fanfic-graph

Anne Rice’s actual quote re: fanfic is below the cut, because it makes me sad.

“I do not allow fan fiction. The characters are copyrighted. It upsets me terribly to even think about fan fiction with my characters. I advise my readers to write your own original stories with your own characters. It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes.”

– Anne Rice, from her website.

where’s that damn types of fanfic graph?

I’m trying to find this great graphic I saw ages ago about types of fanfic, where, say, the source text would be a continuous line, and an augmenting fanfic would be a line that takes off at at angle, or an AU would be a line separate from the canon line—does this ring a bell with anyone?

THIS. Is one of my favorite posts re: fanfic and I am so glad I found it again to reblog it here. Such accurate description of what fanfic is/seeks to achieve in its many forms. I’m sure someone out there is thinking it’s incomplete, and maybe that’s true, but I love this for what it explains anyway and so HERE IT IS.

I would add that Drabbles and Additions exist within canon, filling out interstices of the overall story.

And I also find this diagram creatively inspiring. If you’re stuck, you might find a way through by choosing a different route based on these diagrams.

This lack of fanfiction is a serious problem.. due to it, I’m now following 3 Lestat, 2 Louis, 2 Armand, and 2 Claudia rps…

The RPers are quite talented, I enjoy stalking them. Every one of them brings a unique angle, face claim, etc., to their muse; I love having multiple Lestats, Armands, Claudias, etc., to compare and contrast!

There is fanfic out there… if u know where to look…. I share that bc it’s a relatively safe place, since they do defend their writers when possible. Some people here on tumblr also link to fic under cuts.

I hope you’ll understand why I can’t offer more assistance in this regard, Anon, as it’s still a touchy secret in the VC fandom… That Which Must Be Kept.

ooc; RANDOM AS HELL MORTAL HEADCANONS

merciful-death:

  • He was born in Nantes in 1766.  His family immigrated to Louisiana in 1771.  While in France, the Pointe du Lac family worked on wine production, but his father saw more profits in cultivating Indigo in America.
  • His grandmother on his mother’s side was from Austria and accompanied them to the New World.  She educated Louis on the German language when he was still young; he was bilingual at a young age.  She passed when Louis was ten.
  • His mother was strict on religion and education.  She had him tutored from a young age.  The two of them butted heads regularly, especially as he grew older.
  • Louis’ sister’s name is Isabelle, and she was born shortly after their arrival in the New World.  Her mother spoiled her rotten.
  • Louis was p much closer to his father than anyone else in the family because his mother was legitimately batshit like idk is that even a headcanon what sane mother would accuse her own son of killing her other son and call the police on him srsly wtf
  • That said, Louis’ dad was the one to spoil him.  Louis grew up getting most things that he wanted and by the time he was a teenager, he had an ego the size of Russia.
  • But his mother was a douche as stated so she put him down on a regular basis, which he usually just accepted without too much argument (especially after his dad died), but it gave him a complex underneath said immense ego that lead into an eternity of being a perfectionist and not handling failures well at all.
  • His mother always favored Paul he was her absolute fav and she made sure Louis knew that her precious baby was a better son than him
  • Louis slept around enough (always with girls no homo at that point)
  • He also did enjoy his wine, even before Paul’s death.  Paul’s death just sent him into full-on alcoholism (and abuse of opium).
  • When he was a child, he’d go steal apples and such from neighboring plantations with kids he knew from church.  His mother’d find out and he’d get a good lashing for it.
  • Paul was literally that little shit who cried to mommy about every little thing and sucked the fun out of life and it annoyed both Louis and Isabelle
  • Although both of them obviously loved him immensely; he practically became Louis’ daily therapist after their dad died
  • Louis had to mature a lot very quickly when his father became ill.  Headcanon is that he died of consumption.
  • When his dad did die, he became the man of the family and everyone’s support.  But he dealt with it well and most everyone that resided at Pointe du Lac came to respect him immensely.
  • He supported his mother until her death and then went into major mourning when she did die
  • He also watched over Isabelle from afar until her death, but of course never approached her after his “death” in the Pointe du Lac fire

What lingering improbable thought(s) or idea(s) do you fear has the ability to come true?

faceofabotticelliangel:

What any immortal who pays attention thinks.

Will the world cease living?

No, it won’t.

Will the societies change, will I be terrified of it?

Yes, it is ever changing.

Will I be alone?

Inevitably so. But you enjoy it.

Will I last to be a child of the millennia?

Who shall perish?

Will it be those I loved, or have come to love?

Will they they do what I tried and take comfort in the early ray’s of the sun, taking and lifting them up into the atmosphere till they are no more?

Or will it be like the same as I when cease to live, cease to rediscover the planet and fulfill my own prophecy of the vampires weary of the world whom lay their immortal bones upon the earth and sleep and listen and sleep until they can dream no more and all they know is their silent cries for the unbearable thirst wracking their blood deprived bodies beneath the soil, too weak to climb out?

I often think…before I shall ever think to do this….it will be my darling Sybelle, or Benji though I claim that he is strong. He is a mere boy, after all, permanently twelve years of age. So many made so young when they are turned do not make it. I know. We all do.

And my Sybelle, beautiful Sybelle…I abhor comparing her to the damned violinist, the fledgling of Lestat’s…driven mad by his immortality until he gave up too.

Even Daniel…When will he tire of his sickness hindering him?

Do not start me on Marius, Or Lestat and Louis who have already been through far too much.

What is there not to worry about when you think about it?
