//It is my firm headcanon that Daniel Molloy taught Armand to drive, during Armand’s “learn all of the technology” phase. Which had to have been about the most frustrating and simultaneously terrifying experience of Daniel’s young mortal life. (Can you imagine trying to teach Armand to merge onto a freeway while he’s more concerned at watching the speedometer and asking how it works? CAN YOU?)

“It’s not legal to drink while you’re in a car, Daniel.”
“STOP LOOKING AT ME AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE GODDAMN ROAD.”

For this reason, I also think Daniel never stops giving Armand shit about his driving and always tries to insist on taking the wheel when they go anywhere together in a car (this is a fight he probably loses a lot.)

i-want-my-iwtv asked me about the pic in my icon; the photo was in a magazine–I seem to remember it was Vogue Italia, but I wouldn’t swear to it. I still have the page, but the magazine is long gone; may have been 2003 or so. Anyway, when I saw this I was pretty sure Lestat and Louis had decided to do a photoshoot for Karl Lagerfeld, possibly at Lestat’s home in the Auvergne before he decided to rebuild. Anyway, I scanned it and have used it as my icon ever since.

i’d been talking to my sister about how the coven is like family that tolerate/love each other, then hate each over & over. only bc vampires it’s like hundreds of years instead of between holidays. we decided it reminded us of southern folk most bc lord god if any group is BEST at interchanging PA tolerance and grudging love, it’s

kinfolk south of the mason-dixon line. bless their hearts.

so then southern family mortal AU

armand is clearly the spoiled baby of the family who has fucked everyone over at least once being selfish & lestat is the black sheep. louis exists between being embarrassed by and endeared to them kinda like canon Huh

How do you feel about corsets? Also, how do you clean your coffin Lestat?

(An ex-Lestat RPer wrote this lovely headcanon re: “What was the most arousing moment you’ve ever experienced?”  that I will share with you! Will answer the second question separately.)

Mortcharmant: “My— What an intrusive question,  étranger gris. But I shall humour you none the less…”

“I would have to say it was the night I allowed a delightful mademoiselle to put her corset on me. How it tightened and constricted was glorious and suffocating. I looked like ‘pure sex’ according to her as she added more to my “ensemble”. By the end of it I was dressed up more like a tart than she and it was exhilarating. I let her live after that moment and frequented her regularly for those games of ours. It’s a pity she died three months later at the hands of a violent pick pocket.”

Headcanon about Daniel and the coven:

amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance:

//I imagine that Daniel had to struggle with the rest of the coven for some time, until they got used to his presence.

I think that Lestat, Louis and Armand would probably have talked to each other in French all the time, whilst Armand would switch automatically back to (ancien venetian) Italian whenever he spoke with Marius.
Just out of habit! They have, after all, spoken with one another in the respective language for centuries.

So, there was Daniel, who probably couldn’t speak French to safe his immortal life and had to constantly remind them that it is rude not to let him in on conversations.
By now they all got used to talk in English constantly.

And Daniel has gained some skills in French, at least according to Armand…

+ Ever regret not jumping Lestat’s bones on that boat while he was mortal and in your soon-to-be-body?

the-gentleman-chronicler:

Looking back on it now, despite my moral conflict over the idea of bedding such a youthful body, and concerned about my failing in being able to deliver any satisfaction to Lestat with mine, I do regret not engaging in that intimacy with him back then.  It would have created all manner of additional difficulties for us.

The friendship we shared certainly couldn’t have survived the encounter without becoming something deeper.  I did want Lestat, no shame in saying so, and if I had given in to my desire for him then I doubt recovering from it would be an option.  He has been (mostly) careful about engaging me in attempts for intimacy since my turning.  Out of respect for me or due to his own concerns, I cannot say.

He is dangerous for me.  By giving into my lust even once I fear that I would become fixated on exploring it further.  And since I cannot even promise that any such attempt wouldn’t end in disaster, who knows whether it will ever come to pass.

VC: Daniel Molloy & The Reference of Ruth 1:16

kissingandsnugglingdeadthings:

Warning; I’m about to wax at length about a
Daniel thing in Prince Lestat.
I’m probably “interrogating the text from the wrong perspective”, but so be it!
😀

So I’m poking my way through Prince Lestat again, because I
cannot resist squeezing every last bit of interesting detail out of any of the
Chronicles that has to do with Daniel, and I couldn’t resist taking a good long
look at this particular bit because I was also made to suffer four years of
seminary during my late teens, so any chance to use that knowledge for
something I actually enjoy is occasionally entertaining for this heathen.

The line from Prince Lestat I’ve been
pondering the last day or so:

Prince Lestat: He
and Daniel had to leave Brazil. This was a safe place no longer. Daniel said he
understood. “Whither thou goest, I go,”
he had said.

This is, of course, a partial quote from The
Old Testament which is full is:

Ruth 1:16: And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to
return from following after thee: for whither
thou goest, I will go
; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people
shall be my people, and thy God my God

With the last name Molloy,
it’s obvious that Daniel is of Irish descent, and so it seems to have become a
fairly consistent fan belief over the years (based on the fic and discussions
out there) that Daniel was likely raised in a Catholic environment. Personally,
this quote just cemented that fan-canon thought for me even more, and with that
in mind, it really added a new layer of depth to what Daniel is saying here.

I know it’s also been
speculated post Blood And Gold
that Daniel is in a situation he has little or no control over, being left or
taken into Marius’ care. That somehow he’s become a ‘lackey’ or he’d become a low-level
replacement for Those Who Must Be Kept. I know because I was a party of that
fan-camp of thought for quite some time. So believe me, this is a really big 180° for me to be taking.

It’s become clear in Prince Lestat that Daniel has
come back to his senses, but this particular line seems to also establish that
Daniel has remained and continues to remain with Marius of his own volition. His reference of The Book of Ruth is a pretty
subtle but clear indication that he’s accepted his companion and wants to
remain at his side. Wherever Marius goes, he’s going, and where Marius chooses
to live, that’s where Daniel will live.

It also adds an additional
potential layer of Daniel’s mindset toward Armand. In the Bible, Ruth
chooses to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, instead of going home to her
family, hence the famous quote. I can’t help but wonder if Daniel’s also subtly
referencing that even though Armand isn’t dead in the literalist of senses,
their relationship is. That of course also begs the question if he then thinks of Marius in a ‘familiar, paternal kind of way’ but I’m not going there right now. That’ll be for another time.

ooc; Coven Game Night Poker Edition

I COULD TOTALLY SEE THIS.

Lestat’s a hot shot, and would probably bet everything all at once, but doesn’t even care when he ends up sitting in his birthday suit.

Benji had to beg to join since he’s technically a minor, but when Marius said “NO” Armand just looked at him like he was a camera on the office. Marius sucks at poker and ends up naked next; then Benji because he hasn’t been alive as long to perfect his poker face.

Sybelle is playing piano in the corner and no one thinks she notices but there’s a mirror above her on the wall and she really like’s tonight’s entertainment.

Louis was literally dragged into the room to play by Lestat and Armand, and it happened to be the only thing that the two of them worked together on that entire year.

Armand’s done next, and shoots death glares at the others, even though he’s not the least bit embarrassed.

And then there’s Louis, where there, on the final set of turns, when he’s the last one in, they look at him with nothing off but his shoes.

“Louis when did you lose them?”

“I didn’t, I just felt like taking them off and relaxing.”

//Thanks to the vcsecretgifts Secret Rose Exchange, I now know that June’s birth flower is the Rose. I previously had Rose’s birthday in early July, but now I’ve moved it to late June.

Now I have the headcanon that her mother didn’t really have another name for her, didn’t really think of one while she was pregnant, and the nurse suggested it in the hospital, telling her of the significance to June. Morningstar thought it was pretty enough, the baby plump with rosy cheeks. Rose, though she hates the comparisons people make with her to the flower, is just happy she wasn’t born in July. Otherwise her name might have been Larkspur.
