There is something I find ridiculously funny about a content creator who frequently writes out characters complaining when other content creators do the same
I say birb bc it makes it more palatable for me to make fun of it but I mean bird. They’re aliens with birdlike features. Sketchy spoiler under the cut. They’re characters in:
So you should read that… but I recognize that I am slightly a hypocrite bc I still haven’t finished it, but I have skimmed and been spoiled (upon request) so I know what happens and what they are. And…
Us @ Anne:
Anne @ us:
Sketchy and incomplete spoilers under the cut.
Again, not to go into very much detail bc I don’t know much detail, from what I gather:
The aliens are birdlike and are basically part of the origin story of the vampires, it goes back to the Lost City of Atlantis (actually “Atalantaya”)
And the bird aliens’ plan is to derive energy from humans on earth using the aliens’ own creatures, the Replimoids,
and idk, it’s very involved.
Like all great utopias, Atalantaya couldn’t last forever and was destroyed,
and in the act of destruction the Replimoids were scattered
and some of them died and their souls roamed the earth,
eventually, one of the souls was able to possess a human body (Akasha) in a supernatural accident that creATED THE VAMPIRES.
Every new vampire then got a piece of this alien’s soul.
So the vampires are/were in fact humans possessed/enhanced by their share of that one (sometimes dormant, sometimes cognizant and vocal) alien soul.
I’LL GIVE HER CREDIT IN THAT IT’S DEFINITELY ANOTHER FRESH TAKE ON VAMPIRE MYTHOLOGY.
*hugs* I know your pain! Both were very hard things to put us through. I still remember how I felt when I first read *that part* in Merrick and I was like:
And then we didn’t even get the scene w/ Lestat… um… continuing to save the day night? C’MON.
(I still think Merrick would have been a far better story told from Merrick herself or Louis rather than being told to us through a 3rd wheel; oh well, it is what it is.)
BUT ANYWAY We have Louis back! I can’t see AR doing something like this to us again re: Louis or Armand bc the current trend is everybody getting along and living in peace, basically. I’m expecting more action from the Replimoids or the ghosts in the next book, or maybe a VC wedding between L/L like she’s teased before (and I only really want it if Lestat is a total bridezilla) but WHO KNOWS?
So I don’t think she’s going to do anything like this again to our faves but clearly nothing is off-limits, no one is really safe, so we’ll all just have to wait ‘n seeeee and get each other through whatever it is…
IDK that AR herself considers Merrick to be canon bc it’s not in the Official VC FB banner (it’s a hybrid VC/Mayfair) so if you wanted to just not accept it as canon that’s fine, too.
Mostly the same information as the Looper article with a few added tidbits.
“It is undeniable that Anne Rice has created the paradigm in which all vampire stories are measured against. The rich and vast world she has created with The Vampire Chronicles is unmatched and sophisticated with 90’s Gothic undertones that will be perfectly suited to captivate audiences, … We are thrilled to collaborate with Anne, Christopher, and the team at Anonymous Content on this epic series.” – Amy Powell, President, Paramount TV.
IT’S maybepossiblylike 2 molecules closer to HAPPENING!
“Together with our partners at Paramount Television, we are embarking on a fantastic journey with Anne and Christopher Rice to bring Anne’s unparalleled imagination to television at the moment when the medium is experiencing a global apex in the demand for the most outstanding, exciting, and heightened premium dramatic programming”, says Anonymous Content’s David Kanter. “The Vampire Chronicles, in its entirety, is not only a phenomenally complex universe of storytelling, it is also a world-wide readership whose connections to the books and their author are deep and abiding. It is a tremendous responsibility to help bring the books to television, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity.”
^OK IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS PEOPLE ARE LEGIT VC FANS. That’s a requirement, in my mind. Are they fan enough to help pull off a mostly faithful-to-canon adaptation? As my Dad says, ‘the proof is in the pudding.’
I checked out the Anonymous Content website, and they seem to be able to pull off a wide range of projects. From commercials to music vids to movies like the Revenant, which I still haven’t seen but I’ve heard great things about, I think they have a generally solid mix of glitz & glamour and dirt and grunge and intellectual stimulation and yes, even some comic relief, all things I think we need in VC. Amy Powell is right, VC is “sophisticated with 90’s Gothic undertones”, so where movie!QOTD certainly USED 90′s Gothic aesthetics, I would recommend that Paramount and Anonymous Content should watch that movie and see what parts worked, and what parts didn’t. Along with movie!IWTV and Lestat the Musical.
BTW Anonymous Content did the following which I really enjoy…
Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt video – of the MANY reasons I love this song and video is that it has that beauty and strength in decay/decline… idk it’s gorgeous.
Anne Rice previously noted that the series likely will not touch on the events of “Interview with a Vampire,” but will instead pick up with its sequel “The Vampire Lestat.”
