this picture of anne rice at a book signing in the 90s feels reeeeally important
thats it, thats exactly the experience of reading an anne rice book. You even make the same face.
^TRUTH
^im sorry for this
Booksigning today in NYC for PLROA! I will report back… but given the avalanche of news we’ve had recently, I am pretty sure there won’t be anything new that hasn’t already been covered wurwulf crossover next I just know it plz no 2016 stahp but yes I do need to catch up on all the news bc there has been A METRIC TON
… Do I say that too much? YOU GUYS MAKE THIS WORTH DOING IT GIVES ME SO MUCH LIFE.
‘Coven Leader,’ well… I just do what I do. I won’t deny that I like titles in the abstract, but wouldn’t a Coven Leader also have authoritative responsibilities? And have to appoint ppl to their Dark Cabinet, and arrange Dark Events on their Dark Calendar? Wait, I do do that, to some extent (@vcsecretgiftssignups are still open till 12/2!)… maybe “coven leader” in all lower case letters fits better, less pressure. I’m more of a ‘coven cheerleader’ bc I am mired in this positivity loop and I love encouraging fanworks.
I want to address smtg regarding my place in the fandom, since we’re on the topic.
Someone* recently told me that as a monolith of the fandom I have an obligation to
acknowledge what’s troubling about canon, breed awareness of who controls the narrative of culture and who that harms. I feel that this kind of analysis is a different kind of fanwork, an engagement done with as much love as in the creation of fanart, fanfic, cosplay, etc. It’s valuable and worth our attention.
One major reason I haven’t made or promoted much of this kind of commentary is that I don’t want to offend AR and get this blog shut down for an opinion that I may not even agree with. In the not-so-distant past, she has been known to react negatively to any review of her works that had even the faintest whiff of criticism. So when I share these potentially provocative posts w/ you I may choose to do so as a link, rather than reblog the thread itself, so that it’s clear that it’s not an opinion born from this blog, and ppl can engage with it separately.
TL;DR: As a Coven Leader, I do believe that this kind of analysis/commentary is equally valuable as all other fanworks.
It’s valuable to offer differing opinions to you alongside my own. These posts will be tagged#Deep Cuts of VC Analysis.
*I used some of this person’s words blended in w/ mine here w/o tagging them bc idk if they want to be tagged, if they do, I’ll quote them properly, but since I agree with them, I feel like I can use their words. They are also not the first who have suggested this to me.
Re: “Coven Leader”: While I recognize that many ppl may want to give me a fandom title out of love and appreciation, even if they’re just being that kind of internet-effusive and not really serious, I’m putting up a lot of resistance bc I’ve seen ppl put on a pedestal here and then knocked down, bullied off the site entirely. Whether that was for good reason(s) or not, w/o knowing the truth we can only see from the outside that it appeared to be based on jealousy of that “internet fame.” That may have been the reason, maybe there were no good reasons. Some ppl just like to watch the world burn. So I don’t need to be singled out and given a title or fame when that’s the reaction it can produce. I wouldn’t want to have to turn off Anons.
I know that there are ppl out there who probably do despise me already bc of internet fame alone, and to them: I’m sorry that you have to see my blog all over the place, I’m sorry if it bothers you, please block me, make your tumblr a happy place for you!
So awhile back I had a giveaway post and STILL have not filled that giveaway bc it became a larger giveaway… Here’s the progress so far. Ya like? It will be worth the wait!
Hit the jump for more info including how the embossing works it is so cool!
As you may be aware I wanted to include postcards and so I asked @ashetray if I could use their fanart for that, which I had commissioned, so that was all good but then I wanted to add my i-want-my-iwtv flair on there somehow. Adding a gold foil logo seemed like a good idea but those are so expensive! Printers start at $400 for this fancy shit.
Manual gold embossing is much more cost effective, just get a stamp of your design (mine was $35), the embossing powder ($10 I think?), the heat gun ($25), and the embossing ink ($6, but you can use any color ink).
1. Supplies. 2. getting the embossing ink on tha stamp.
3. Embossing ink comes out almost clear. 4. Dump that embossing powder!
5. Really cover that sucker, 6. and then roll the paper so the powder collects so you can dump it back in the container bc it’s still perfectly usable.
7. The powder stuck to the ink! MAGIC. 8. BLAST THAT SUCKER W/ THE HEAT GUN.
You are free to disagree with me, but arguing is not – my consulting rates are $125/hour, 2 hour minimum, cash only, payment due up front. See my assistant for an appointment.
(THIS ONE’S FOR ME awwww!) Thanks bunches, Rem! <3<3<3
I actually got this message 3 days ago, but I was neck-deep (hehehe!) in birthday messages for Lestat, so I felt like this could be answered a little later, when the dust his confetti settled.
… Little did I know that the sh*t would hit the fan so spectacularly here in the US… where am I going with this, you ask? Well, in the face of such stress and anxiety and and and… all the emotions one can have in this situation… it’s so good to know my face (figuratively and literally) is loved, fangs ‘n all, and I’m still needed, and by unrelentingly plowing ahead, encouraging others to make – and making my own – fanworks, it can help us all get through this.
It isn’t just escape into a fantasy world. Fandom is letting the fantasy world supplement us, bolster us, give us hope. Fandom is drawing our friends and loved ones as close as we can, even separated by massive distance, we can at least communicate with and support eachother.
Homework assignment to everyone out there: Reach out and send a lovely message like this to someone today ❤
By the way, totally unrelated: how’s everyone’s immigration policies? Asking for a friend…
Not a strange question at all! It does affect me, in a positive way 😀
Kids often make me think about Claudia, both for VC casting ideas and also what it would be like to be an adult trapped in that little body (5 yr olds really are small!). I’ve never seen a *~perfect~* kid to play her, though. I think Kirsten Dunst set the bar very high.
Speaking of VC casting – I am always on the lookout for that. There’s a homeless guy I pass by on a regular basis who might be great for Lestat’s dad during the IWTV era. I’d love to share a pic but I feel like it would be rude to take one 😛
My headcanon for the VC characters is often in the back of my mind, and something might spark an idea about one or more of them, useful for fanfic ideas… Here in NYC I saw some older ladies, tourists, petting some huge police horses with policemen in the saddles, looking down and making small talk back at the ladies, and I had a very clear vision of Lestat seeing that as a form of fellatio (the men were straddling these massive animals and the women were flirting with them, practically fondling the horse’s necks and faces!) and finding it pretty hilarious, having to explain why he was laughing to Louis… so I wrote it up: 9TH AVE, BETWEEN 57TH & 58TH ST.
I’ll often slip in quotes from the books in emails or conversation partly bc they sound good but also it’s sort of a feeler to fish out other VC fans. Sometimes it works, too!
It works on bad days, too, I’ll just remind myself that Lestat doesn’t take this kind of crap from anyone, he just dusts himself off and kicks the asses that needed kicking!
Lestat (♛) and Louis (♠) are always available for asks, from anyone!
^______^
Since they’ve been doing this awhile now, they have some advice for Asking the Right Questions:
Be clear who your message is directed to. If you don’t specify, or you send it to both, they’ll decide if they want to answer together or let one handle it.
Show yer face! If you are asking them something as an RPer, coming off anon would help so they can browse your archive to get an idea of your muse first.
Anon RPers – you’ll have to inform them that your muse is a vampire if it is. It can be as easy as “{Mary Sue, vampire for 15 years}”
You can flirt with them, but don’t expect the feeling to be automatically mutual.
These are Ask-only interactions. You can send followup asks, but they are unlikely to reply to any responses on the original ask. This is a policy that they (and the mun) decided on so as not to play favorites, but there are exceptions to every rule, so it might happen ;]
Reminder: Lestat’s birthday is 11/7… do with that information what you will.
…btw, they have old asks that they still haven’t answered yet, which take more consideration due to sensitive or complicated topics, but those asks haven’t been forgotten! Just so you know, those kinds of asks tend to take longer.
