AR has the rights back to the VC to make adaptations, the new book is crackier more imaginative!! than we ever could have imagined, there’s an official VC FB asking for casting suggestions and some have been… also imaginative (did I hear Orlando Bloom suggested for Armand? And Sebastian Stan for Louis?)…
I love that we’re all excited and horrified and stimulated by all this! IDK KNOW WHAT TO TELL U OR ADVISE YOU I CANNOT EVEN I DON’T KNOW MY OWN HEART ON THIS IT’S SO FRUSTRATE it’s a good frustrate tho. Like trying not to scratch a mosquito bite but if feels so good to do it but you know you’re making things worse, even when it starts to bleed it feels good!! that’s sort of how I feel.
Please check Anne Rice’s facebook page, she’s talking about a television series!! She said she has the theatrical rights for Vampire Chronicles once again!! A TELEVISION SERIES OMG
YES. WOW. A TV series could cover a lot more ground than one movie or a trilogy/series of movies, and lock in a cast for a long period of time, lots of benefits to that medium! The way TV series seem to invite fan engagement lately is also a factor, whether it’s a negative or a positive is up to how the showrunners handle that… fanservice can be good or bad.
(I got a ton of messages like this in the past few days, catching up on them is like trying to drink from a fire hydrant and I love it, the booksigning last night actually really helped settle my thoughts on it all.)

So this is relatively old news even though it was only 5 days ago that the bomb dropped on us, we’re all reacting in our own way, I’ve seen some of the posts and will be sharing/reblogging them, from what I can tell so far there’s a lot of anticipation, anxiety, support, and also disappointment and what the heck happened w/ Josh Boone?!, the main questions seem to be:
Who is going to join the team now?! and,
Will this adaptation be faithful to the books?!
In answer to these, at the booksigning last night (11/30/16), AR had this to tell us about the new TV series:
- It’s been 8 yrs that the adaptation has been in the works in Hollywood, but she didn’t elaborate on what kept it from progressing (AR and CR must know, they’ve probably learned a thing or two about what obstacles lie in their path on this, I feel like they can navigate these things better now than ever before).
- Their official VC FB has gotten 2.8 million hits and thousands of shares so far!
- AR and CR are writing the pilot episode and a treatment for the first 2 seasons. And it seems like they want to perfect their vision before inviting others onto the team.
- Their agents are deluged w/ phone calls from producers and studios who want to talk with AR and CR whenever they’re ready 😀
- AR thinks it’s gonna work out this time. She and Christopher recognize that TV and film are collaborative art forms, and there will be compromise, but they will be polite and firm that it’s not gonna happen if it’s not the way they want it to be. <– Appears to be their commitment to be faithful to canon.
- This whole book tour is celebratory of them getting the rights back ❤

So if ya’ll didn’t see @claudias-ashes‘ post, Christopher Rice, along with mama Anne, set up a Facebook page for fans to give their input on the series and on the casting for the new television show for our beloved Vampire Chronicles at https://www.facebook.com/officialvampirechronicles/
I highly advise everyone to take a look and to also comment their fancasts and their wishes for the series as I have begun to do so. If you look at the most recent post, they are currently casting for Armand, and right now, no offense to the others, the comments are pretty dreadful, with namedropping some actors who are WAY too old to play Armand (though, there are a few good suggestions).

I am cautiously optimistic? If they get the casting right (GO WITH AGE-APPROPRIATE UNKNOWNS, PLEASE!!), this could be great. I’ve said for ages that the Vampire Chronicles needed to be a series.
Plz for all that is holy… *praying furiously to any god that will listen* Let this be good news I cans not take any more shit from 2016….

Lestat and Louis, are you excited for the new movie? Honestly, I think it should be made into a tv show because they can’t possibly condense two of the books into 2 hours without making it horrible. Do you guys have anyone in mind to play yourselves?
♛I’m excited for the new movie, Louis not as much… he doesn’t think we should be drawing more attention to ourselves, but why didn’t they just cast me? Creative license, I suppose. As for actors to play us, I’m open to anyone. I actually suggested that Louis play Nicolas, since they’re doing my story first, but he’s not so keen on the idea for whatever reason… I don’t see the issue, we could give him brown contact lenses and style his hair differently…
So interestingly as of 4th of November the official IMDB page for the new film has changed to The Vampire Chronicles. And now seems to be officially in pre-production.

I don’t have any other news but I’ll share yours, good find, @claudias-ashes! IT’S REALLY HAPPENING!
However, I would suggest that this is still just a temporary title, bc Josh Boone intends to adapt TVL and include some of IWTV in it, do a trilogy and possibly a TV series for ALL the side characters, so for now, it’s probably safest to put it all under this blanket title. @phoenifia/@firelight-fading linked us to an article about that, here’s the relevant snippet:
But the fact that the status was updated to “Pre-production” so recently is promising!
Of course I can’t find it now but @laurasking and I were rolling around the idea that it could be great to have this film begin in a darkened theatre, playing movie!IWTV, and then we pull back to see Lestat is watching it there by himself. He rented the theatre just to watch it on the big screen ALONE, …he stops the film, slings an arm over the back of the chair beside him, and he turns around in his chair to look at the viewer and break the 4th wall with:
“Do you believe this garbage? *gestures at the screen* Let me tell you what really happened.”
