2. A Sense of Foreboding – orleans_vl – Interview With the Vampire (1994), Vampire Chronicles – Anne Rice, Vampire Chronicles – All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]

A very wounded Lestat appears at Armand’s place in Paris, before Armand has decided what to do about the two vampires from the New World and their mysterious backstory. One thing is for sure, Armand would love to keep one of them for himself… at least for a little while. Lestat is unwilling to share.

In spite of this, there is an undercurrent of brotherhood between Lestat and Armand, and Armand does offer Lestat a little kindness.

Have you read Prince Lestat? If so what was your opinion of it? I just started reading it and I’m wishing this book was more about him and less about…everyone else.

gothiccharmschool:

The short answer: I thought Prince Lestat was a lot of fun (but you’re right, it needed more Lestat).

The longer answer: Take a look at my THREAT LEVEL: LESTAT tag, and the Gothic Charm School review of Prince Lestat.

(I may be rereading it right now, during bathtimes. Maybe.)

You’re very welcome *u* It is, for the most part, a super nice fandom, as we’ve had our share of drama already (among other things, being driven underground by our own series creator in the 90’s), so we’re all pretty grateful to be able to find eachother now.

And thank you for the compliments, of course!

opheliaximmortal replied to your post “Hi, I’m fairly new to The Vampire Chronicles fandom, and the books…”

tbh sassy lestat and mona being involved is the only thing i enjoyed about those two books

Mona was so awesomely sassy in Blood Canticle!

Lestat: “I told her to change clothes. That short sequined dress was just too damned distracting. And we had some heavy matters to address immediately.”

[argument ensues]

Mona: “ ‘And I know why you’re so fired up over Rowan, she’s the first adult female other than your own mother who’s ever caught your attention for more than five minutes, and Hello! Lestat Discovers The Opposite Sex! Yeah, females do come in grown-up sizes! And I happen to be one of them, and this is not the Garden of Eden, and I am not taking off this dress!’ ”

Spoiler alert: she doesn’t change her dress.

When you are a vampire, you become very… sexy.

I saw What We Do in the Shadows at the premiere for it in NY. It’s a great vampire mockumentary! I was in stitches. Just excellent. Can’t wait to buy a copy on DVD, the creators said there would be loads of extra goodies *u*

There was a Q&A afterwards with the creators, and I asked them if any of their vampires took inspiration from Anne Rice’s, and they did say the costume design was definitely influenced by Interview with the Vampire, among other vampire movies. The Lost Boys was a big inspiration, too. C’mon tho, Lestat himself had to be an influence. These are very dysfunctional vampires.

I don’t want to spoil anything but there is a scene that is particularly reminiscent of a scene in IWTV!

The Catacombs in Paris

Carved into the limestone a second city runs underneath Paris and I was lucky enough to get to visit the bits officially open to the public.

Initially you wander down nearly 100 stairs before reaching the tunnels, along the way to the ossuary there are lots of winds and bends and you are still able to see the tool marks scratched into the stone from the early 1800s. Then there is the carvings of a miniature city by an individual who never got to finish it because they were killed by a cave-in before they had opportunity.

Upon reaching the ossuary and entering all you can see is bones, lining the tunnels, literally millions of people. And the further in you go, the more decorative they get with skulls arranged into shapes like hearts. If you’re tall enough to be able to see the top of the stacks, you won’t be able to see how far back they reach.

One I thought sixpenceee might find interesting!
