ooc; Here are a bunch of other (more purely) Lestat RPers. Not playing favorites, just picking a few I can think of:

I understand that you have read the new Anne Rice book Prince Lestat. Has Louis changed at all or is he the same sad vampire? What do you think of Louis?
I mean this in the kindest way… LOUIS IS A BAD ASS MOTHERFUCKER OK so people need to let go of this singular-mopey-tortured-soul-Louis thing!
Your headcanon may vary of course, but this is my interpretation…
I still haven’t finished Prince Lestat but I know some of the spoilers. I won’t share them here except to say that I understand Louis gets a good chapter to himself. He’s in Prince Lestat and he does make the impression of someone who is comfortable in his own skin and generous in his interactions with others, so far as I’ve read.
Aside from that, Louis shook off his mortal coil as early as in IWTV. When still but a fledgling, he stood up to Lestat during the Freneire incident, “And so I physically grappled with Lestat. I held him… I held him in the dark, where he spit at me and cursed at me…” Lestat sounds like an angry cat. That must have been fun. NOT.
He helped Claudia escape from Lestat. He burned down the Theatre des Vampires in revenge for Claudia. Etc.
In my favorite fanfic and RP threads, Louis is a BAMF. He doesn’t let anyone step on his toes, and he enjoys time to himself, but he’s not merely a hermit the sum of his library. He’s protective and nurturing of Lestat (and others) in physical AND emotional ways, which are reciprocated in kind.
Louis is at odds with everything. He always has been. Even in his darkest, saddest moments, there was the little flame of his ego and will to survive. It’s one of his most endearing qualities.
I think it’s this ego and indomitable nature that draw Lestat – and others – back to him again and again. Also, Louis is very pretty ❤
Hi, I’m fairly new to The Vampire Chronicles fandom, and the books actually (a bit before my time) and I was just wondering about your opinion on Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle as I have heard some negativity around them, I have only read the first two books (twice over) as I wait for QotD to arrive in the post. Do you think I will like the rest of the series?

First of all I have to say the entire series is sort of jokingly – and endearingly – called the Vampire Crackicles. The crazy is a big part of why we enjoy it. Dysfunctional vampires! The first 3-4 books in the series seem to be the more highly regarded, VC-fandom-wide, maybe bc the crazy was better woven in. We all have our differences in opinion as to what we consider to be canon after that.
Do I think you’ll like the rest of the series? I don’t know what you liked specifically about the first 2 books, but if you did like them enough to reread them, you must also enjoy the sense of humor that’s mixed in with the angst, the love, the overall crazy!
Short answer is give it all a chance, read it in order, and decide for yourself, it’s meant to be fun, it’s not a religion ;]

The books you mentioned have earned a negative reputation partly because they are involved with the crossover of the Mayfair Witches series, and introduced a whole bunch of new characters, when the fandom craved more about the already established characters (like Daniel Molloy!) and that the plots of those stories didn’t seem as engaging as in the first 3-4 books (at least for me, because they were maybe too ambitious or not structured in a more believable way).
Blackwood Farm focuses on a new set of characters (including a few of AR’s Mayfair Witches, it’s one of the 3 books that makes the crossover of the two series) than in IWTV, TVL, or QotD. It’s got some very interesting mythology and you do have Lestat being Lestat, but he’s been through alot at this point in canon and is not the same throw-caution-to-the-wind lovable moron that he was previously. He’s got a gentleness and a snappiness about him.
Blood Canticle is very cracky bc it’s further down the Mayfair Witches crossover story. Now Lestat has very strange religious grappling. It was meant to be the very last VC and you can see Anne Rice tried to pack in as much excitement and fireworks as possible. Sometimes this ended up making the story jump the shark.

Your gif may be too big, there is a 2mb file size limit (and it works better if the gif is smaller than that). Also, most of my gifs are smaller than 400 x 400 px, this one by pusheen is only 250 x 250 px and 51.8 kb.
Do you think Sam Reid would make a good Lestat? I kinda view him as my headcanon. He was in the movie Belle.
I didn’t see Belle yet (it’s on my watchlist).

Idk maybe he going for a lower register in this vid for a reason, but I see him more as Augustin or a young Lestat’s dad bc of that low voice.
Thanks for the cosplay post! Love it. I agree with what you said on dramatic/srs cosplay–personally my favs are when people have great period costumes in ancient buildings. One other great one is the ‘carancerth’ Lestat at deviantart. I wish more people devoted themselves to cosplay brilliance LOL, the great ones are truly gorgeous, it’s art!

Yes, I have seen carancerth before, he’s a very well put-together Lestat.
I think he looks more Lestatuesque in these other cosplays (from his FB page), it’s the lighting, the facial expression, etc.:

Cosplay, for me, isn’t just about the looks, it’s also in the attitude. So if someone’s eyes aren’t the shade as described in the book it’s not a dealbreaker. I think I prefer silly/parody cosplays because it’s so hard to achieve the serious dramatic quality one gets with the added $$$, experienced professionals of cinematography, costume design, lighting, etc., that the film industry relies on when making films. When you aim for silly/parody, it’s truly more about the performance than the physical look.
That said, here’s an example I like of everyman as Lestat:
I think it works! Looking at his other pics, he’s really gone to great lengths to recreate scenes/relationships, and he’s got good Lestatuesque body language and attitude.
As for the Louis, yeah, in most of the pics he seems #ooc, but I think ^this expression is excellent! He’s got the “Lestat omfg STOP” just under his dignified veneer. Nice sharp French features, great outfit, looks like the right age. He could even work as Nicolas. If only this guy worked as well in his front angle as his profile *siiiigh*.
Melodysknight as Lestat gets massive points for also playing the IWTV pieces.
