If Louis was mortal for 24 hours what do you think he would do?

♠ Louis here. I felt that I should answer this myself, since it is a question for me. Could I share this day with Lestat? If not directly with him, could I give him half? It would seem a beautiful gift to share in either fashion.

I admit that I’m not wholly prepared to answer, to consider this at all… the fact that I have never considered it is because I would never want to raise such an impossible dream in my heart, only to be crushed by the reality that it can never be.

Regardless, I’ll give you what comes to mind anyway. Assuming I must keep such a miracle to myself, here’s a small glimpse of ideas of what I might do:

  • Sunrise/sunset: Too obvious? Oh well. It’s the truth. I’d witness it, and feel that unique pleasure of sunlight climbing up my bare skin, that warmth spreading, not as a warning, but a loving embrace. That same feeling in reverse, as it slipped away at the end of the day.
  • Swim in the ocean, somewhere tropical, perhaps, and feel the tickle of the fish around my body. Maybe take one of those aqueous cameras to capture the composition of the scenery myself, as a memento. I don’t imagine wearing any cumbersome swimwear in this scenario. Maybe just diving equipment (Lestat and I are excellent divers).
  • Food and drink: it could be a gastronomic adventure. I was never what you call a “foodie” now, but I have some dishes that I would love to experience again.

Crêpe Suzette, for breakfast. Fruits, apple juice, coffee. Black coffee, café au lait, jasmine green tea. Beignets from the Cafe du Monde. Gumbo (with alligator). Crawfish

    étouffée.

  • Other drink: I wouldn’t want to become so drenched in liquor that it would limit my experience, so I would opt for a few classic mixed drinks, rather than my previous mortal fare of anything in large quantities. A few glasses of St. Germain 75. Or

Mezcal. Perhaps something I never got to try as a mortal,

    Aszú

Tokay. I’ve been told it’s very syrupy, but it may go well with vanilla ice cream.

  • Dancing
  • Go listen to a string quartet or trio in a garden.
  • Ride through my old plantation on horseback.

I would try to take notes throughout, so that I might relive the experience on those nights when eternity seems the most dreary, and I strain to recall the way the light caught the luster of the wooden body of a cello, the way it filtered through the water on the scaled backs of the fish, or shone in the eye of a lady – or man – as I took their hand to dance, as that light receded below the horizon once more.

Louis chéri? You noticed how I was well-behaved last night… Yes, of course you did, don’t be silly. So, I have a petite idea about my more than well-deserved reward… I know how much you enjoy going to Shakespeare plays with me.

♠ (Louis) I did notice you were less critical of my wardrobe last night than you usually are. Is that really what you want for your self-awarded “reward” ? The last Shakespeare performance we went to put you to sleep in the first act. It was somewhat embarrassing, especially because you had insisted on overdressing us both for the occasion.

Don’t get
up on your high horse, I’m only trying to guide you. A man of such allure must
be at his best. It would be criminal not to see you in all your finery. It is possible that I was maladroit; please
see it as a consequence of my zealous nature.

As for my
somnolence, what can I say? Your aloofness prevents me to find rest during the
day. Show me mercy, ma beauté.

♠ You’re going to lay the blame for your sleep deprivation on me? Mon Dieu, Lestat, if you have trouble sleeping during the day it’s your own damned fault for installing speakers in your coffin.

Weren’t you the one who accused me of overdressing? I believe you called it “foolishness.” Instead of the contents of mine, perhaps you should be concerned about how flammable your own closet is.

Do you still want to go out tonight, mon pamplemoussier? Or have you had enough? I have fictional characters I could be spending this valuable time with.

Let’s play 5 questions…

♛Lestat laces his fingers together, stretches his arms out forward, and hunkers down with his laptop beside Louis on a small loveseat, purposely squeezing their bodies tightly together as he does so, in order to respond to paint-it-livid’s questions (thank u!)

“Louis my love, help me answer these questions, for I do so value your perspective.”

1 – What was the last song you listened to?

Lestat says: “Peter Gabriel – My Body is a Cage”

“This is a positively haunting cover of an Arcade Fire song, and when I first heard it, it brought me immediately to tears. So I played it for Louis just now, and… nothing. No reaction! He must prefer the original version because it’s an excellent song and he should have reacted appropriately.” Lestat huffs, glances at Louis, they silently debate for some long moments whether to play the song again. Louis rolls his eyes and the song is not played again.

2 – What’s getting on your nerves right now?

Pondering this, Lestat flicks a fang. So many minor things. “Louis keeps making stacks of books and periodicals and it’s like walking around a little doll set of skyscrapers, he’s forcing me to nag him about picking up after himself.”

Louis adds: “Well, half of those stacks are actually your piano and guitar chord books, which you piled up, dearest.”

“Touché.”

3 – Most visited website?

“This is an easy one. Youtube. I can be satisfied with hours of music, and see musicals and other performances we might otherwise not be able to attend, so many travel videos during sunlight to enjoy…” Lestat trails off, a wistful look in his eye.

Louis adds: “Those are good, we do spend alot of time on that site. He also loves tutorials. Particularly the fashion and

makeup variety. And he tests the techniques on me, when I’m in the mood for it.”

“Especially the Guyliner, Louis!” Lestat elbows him, attempting to impress Louis with the slang.

“Yes, calm down, I’m aware of the term.”

4 – Do you believe in love at first sight?

They exchange a glance. “Bien sûr!” Lestat said, quite sure of himself.

Louis adds: “I never believed in it before meeting Lestat, and even then, I was so out of… not myself… that I wasn’t sure then if it was love I felt for him or just a simple desire to hold and keep him with me, for as long as possible.”

“Is that not love, my love?”

“I was under duress at the time.”

“Was some of that duress my charming self, my love?”

Louis sighs softly, a smile growing across his face. “I suppose it qualifies.”

Lestat smirks, more than a little triumphantly.

5 – Which is better: hugs or kisses?

“Oh, they both have their benefits, to be sure,” Lestat considers, snaking his arm around Louis and giving him a gentle squeeze. “They’re different forms of intimacy… hugs are more for greeting and departure…would snuggling count as a form of hugging? Because I definitely require that.”

“Snuggling is… probably considered hugging, it’s bodies held together, no?”

“Oui, that it is, very scientific of you, Dr. de Pointe du Lac.” Lestat teases, assuming a stern expression and tone before breaking into a smile.

“But kissing has a language of its own, it’s about appreciation, reverence, a deeper connection…” Lestat eyes Louis’ lips as he speaks, growing more than a little interested.

“Kissing need not only be on the mouth, you know,” Lestat says, before making a trail of light kisses starting at Louis’ ear, tracing down the jawline. Louis twists, offering more access.

Louis smiles coquettishly at Lestat, pulling him closer: “Hugs or kisses? But why not both?

ONE SONG: Edith Piaf, Hymne à l’Amour

TWO MOVIES: The Pianist, Spirited Away

THREE TV SHOWS: I confess that commercials limit my enjoyment of television, they’re an assault on the senses, but at any rate, I’ll choose shows I access through commercial-free means: Frasier, Poker Night in America, and Married w/ Children. There are moments when I completely understand Al Bundy, particularly under the onslaught of Peggy Bundy’s insatiable demand for physical affection *sighs*

FOUR ANIMALS: cats, cicadas (such music they make), horses, and Lestat. Oh, I can’t choose Lestat? The case could be made that he is an animal. I could provide second opinions on that. Alright, lions. *smirks*

FIVE FOODS: Coffee, tea, the scent of freshly baked bread, bananas are aesthetically pleasing, the sound of pistachio shells being cracked open.
