Back in September I bought cheap used copies of all the Vampire Chronicles (and New Tales) for myself so that I could reread them in time for PLatRoA. And I wrote in them and stuff. It was pretty fun. I crammed all 14 books in 10 weeks and it was PRETTY EXHILARATING.
So anyway, for as long as it interests me, watch this space as I flip through them again and make posts of quotes and passages that I enjoyed. 🙂
I’ve been wanting to do this myself for the longest time!! Do the different colors of highlighted passages mean anything? 🙂
yisssss
I was mostly just using the pink primarily (sometimes I switched to green because I went through like 4 packs of highlighters and tbh Marius is a Highliter Ruiner and I kept running the pink ones out), but I’d switch to blue if I wanted to extra emphasize something in the paragraph, or I’d switch back and forth with pink & blue if there were two paragraphs/sentences back to back that I wanted to highlight for different reasons, like I found each section to be a complete idea etc. Then I saved purple for EXTRA IMPORTANT STUFF.
It was really fun and enlightening and definitely heightened my enjoyment of these stories. Plus like, I’ll be honest, not every step of the way was the most academic endeavor, because I was highlighting and noting a mix of “This is really important to the plot and this character” and “THIS GIVES ME THE LOLS”
You should do it! IT WAS FUN. 😀
^There is SO MUCH humor in VC!!! I feel like ppl forget that sometimes…
^This would be all over everything if I did this… w/ tons of 😀 and D:

Is this a screencap from Mad Men? Stan is so dapper (but also he has a touch of like, Macauley Culkin from Richie Rich, no?), Anne is like a gotdamn illustration LOOK AT THOSE CHEEKBONES DAMN.
#the parents#anne rice#stan rice#i’m constantly shocked how much chris looks like stan#it’s adorable#good news cause he was a handsome dude#I JUST FEEL LIKE WHEN I LOOK AT THIS PICTURE#IT MAKES ME LAUGH#cause they look relatively normal#AND YOU WOULD HAVE NO IDEA#kinkiest freaks#adorable
The vampire who made me was everything that I truly believed evil to be: He was dismal, as literal, as barren, as inevitably eternally disappointing as I believed evil had to be!
Louis de Pointe du Lac, Interview with the Vampire (via monstersinthecosmos)
Louis if this is you trying to piss your maker off A+ excellent job
this picture of anne rice at a book signing in the 90s feels reeeeally important
OKAY EXCUSE ME GUYS, ANNE RICE RIGHT NOW ON HER LIVESTREAM WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW SHE REGRETTED KILLING ARMAND AND SHE WAS AT A MEMNOCH SIGNING AND THE FANS HAD “ARMAND LIVES” SHIRTS AND MADE HER REALIZE SHE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.
I MEAN. IS THAT WHAT THIS PICTURE IS. I THINK IT IS.
HAHAHAHA i love this fucking fandom oh my God. I WISH I could have been there for that
Following through the comments on my post, there is the idea that “le Russe” is an epithet, that it’s not what Armand goes by, but something Rhoshamandes calls him. It’s only mentioned once in the book, IIRC, by Rhosh. I’d believe that.
Anne APPARENTLY made up “le Russe” in PL. Which I had totally forgotten until I was reminded a little while ago. As far as obviously made up surnames go it’s even worse than de Romanus lol. ETA: I need to do a closeread before I speak lol, it sounds like that’s an epithet rather than a name.
SO LIKE I MEAN, the only part (to my recollection? plz correct me???) where it mentions “Armand Le Russe” is in a Rhosh chapter and that guy is such a salty fuckin tool and I got the impression that he was calling Armand that to be petty and sarcastic? Cause then she started listing the vampires at the end of the books and she still just refers to him as “Armand” without a last name.
“Only the clever ones like Gregory Duff Collingsworth and Armand Le Russe–who could thrive right in the midst of mortals–were undisturbed by the shrinking of the planet.”
YEP that’s what @laurasking pointed out to me too. That’s totally plausible. Also since Rhosh’s experience with Armand relates to coven era BS in Paris (idk if I’m even remembering this correctly but isn’t he pissed that allessandra ++ were forced into the covens) it might possibly be a thing left over from that era as well??
laurasking said: Well, Rhoshamandes calls him that, but no one else.
moral-cipher said: Laurasking – ohhh i forgot that. So it’s probably an epithet, possibly left over from the Bad Old Days. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks!
laurasking said: I thought fanon was that he assumed de Romanus.
@i-want-my-iwtv: ^Re: de Romanus, I assumed that was the name Armand used when he was with Marius, but after he was taken by the Children of Darkness, they changed his first name and I would assume he never used “de Romanus” again, either ;A;
Welcome to our little corner of tumblrand, and mon dieu, a compliment like this is pure gold. PURE GOLD. As is our AU! Pure gold ;D
[X@yallpacino: when you find a really good alternative universe fanfiction]
If you love our Signature Blend,@wicked-felina also has another great VC AU (WIP) you should check out, The Grim Brothers. It’s a “VC take on Red Riding Hood,” as heartfelt and fun as our AU, it was one of the first AUs I really loved ❤
This fandom has some real life in it lately, and I would urge you to use the links provided above, but also check out some of the absolutely amazing meta we have seen from various people here on Tumblr, especially that of vraik and anton-mordrid. Check out the fics, too, and also I would recommend @monstersinthecosmos‘s fantastic fic.
I flit back and forth between this fandom (my first real fandom!) and Breaking Bad but this burst of energy and enthusiasm of late has sucked me right back in, dammit.
I’m thrilled you like the fic. You really don’t know what it means to know that people are enjoying reading it, and that you appreciate it. It makes it worthwhile.
