Hey! You seem like the right person to ask about this; How do we know Louis’ younger brother’s name? I remembered that it was Paul, and a google search tells me I’m right, but I can’t find it mentioned anywhere in ‘Interview’. What’s up with that?

Hello to you! Here’s one of my fave portrait-claims yes I invented that word just now of Paul:

[by Philip Alexius de Laszlo, Portrait of Raymond P. Johnson-Ferguson, 1923]

Paul is in fact mentioned by name in IWTV, but it’s only 3 times, and the first time is on page 26 (US Ballantine edition):

“I could almost make out the images of the saints on the walls. `Paul,’ I said softly, addressing my brother, `for the first time in my life I feel nothing for you,…” Louis de Pointe du Lac, IWTV

…so if you were skimming a physical copy, it would in fact be hard to find the mentions at all! I have digital copies of all the books, makes for easier searching ;]

The first time Paul is mentioned, it isn’t by name at all, on the 2nd page. Paul was a big deal for Louis and he has to bring it up immediately.

“There was a tragedy … “ the vampire started. “It was my younger brother … He died.”Louis de Pointe du Lac, IWTV

Would Louis have been in such a crappy state and basically trying to drink himself to death, shouting “COME FIGHT ME BRO” at everyone in the shittiest taverns of NOLA if not for his guilt over Paul? Would he still have met Lestat at some fancy ball? WHO KNOWS.

I’m in too deep. I knew that detail of the lips and chin/throat was Lestat. Actually, I thought it was from a painting of uncanny resemblance. Then I looked at the avatar and realized that it WAS Lestat…

You mean this painting? The source doesn’t say it’s intended to be Lestat, but I can see where you might have turned left at Albuquerque bc I did reblog it from a Lestat RPer, monsieur-lestat, and yes, it does work! Goes well with the TVL quote:

“I have… a mouth that is well shaped but just a little too big for my face. It can look very mean, or extremely generous, my mouth. It always looks sensual.”

#Lestat talks about himself #we all bask in his glory #As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

I found Armand! (Or a face for him, anyhow.) Just plunk a russet wig on Rory Finn. He’s got the big brown eyes for it and he’s just boyish enough, I think, to nail the look. There’s a pic on going around tumblr right now where he’s dressed up in Carravaggio-esque garb and his expression just screams Armand to me. I wish I could link you to it…

I think u mean these? bc… oh myyyy…   (  *u*)

Leon Bakst, Portrait of Zinaida Gippius, 1906

“Though it portrays one person, this painting brings together a queer trio of creative subjects. Its sitter, Zinaida Gippius, was a symbolist poet and novelist exiled from Russia after the Revolution. In Paris, she became as famous for her androgynous style and rumoured lesbianism as for her writing. The painter of the portrait, Leon Bakst, was best known as the creator of scenic design and costumes for the Ballet Russes, including the exotic, daringly erotic costumes worn by lead dancer Vaslav Nijinksy. Finally, Oscar Wilde, the witty and scandalously homosexual writer, provided the inspiration for Gippius’s cross-dressed attire and dandified pose.”

Richard Meyer, Art & Queer Culture (New York: Phaidon, 2013), 62.

In the book (interview with the vampire) I know that Louis had a brother named Paul but didn’t he also have a sister? And in the book does he ever mention his mother or father? I can’t recall.

Yes, he had a brother Paul

  • Louis’ brother: “He had the smoothest skin and the largest blue eyes. He was robust, not thin as I am now and was then” (IWTV) Not sure whether it’s canon or fanon but Paul was supposedly blond. He was 15 when he died, right after an argument in which Louis had laughed at him, had not believed him, and so, felt responsible for Paul’s death.

  • Louis’ sister: Unnamed (it’s fanon that her name is Henriette “Minette“ de Pointe du Lac), she played the harpsichord. After Paul died “My sister went to bed rather than face the funeral… People in society asked my sister offensive questions about the whole incident, and she became an hysteric. She wasn’t really an hysteric. She simply thought she ought to react that way, so she did…  I did come to know my sister, forbidding her the plantation for the city life which she so needed in order to know her own time of life and her own beauty and come to marry, not brood for our lost brother or my going away or become a nursemaid for our mother.”
  • Louis’ mother: Unnamed (it’s fanon that her name is

Paulette de Pointe du Lac) Louis didn’t seem to have a great relationship with his mother. When Paul died, “my mother told everyone in the parish that something horrible had happened in my room which I would not reveal; and even the police questioned me, on the word of my own mother.”

  • Louis’ father: Unnamed (it’s fanon that his name is

Aurestile Jean Michel Pointe du Lac) At the beginning of IWTV, Louis is 25, his father is dead and Louis “was head of the family and I had to defend [Paul] constantly from my mother and sister.” Defend him from their trying to get him to go out and have fun; but Paul was committed to the Bible.
