I’ve never heard of this Devin Oliver (sounds like Ricean name, doesn’t it?) before this very Ask, he is apparently the frontman in the band I See Stars, so already, big plus, a singer! (I haven’t heard their stuff but anyway I assume he can sing… I am pretty generous about singers). 

TL;DR I would screen test him! Hurl him in AR’s direction!

The other thing I’d like about smne like Devin who is already a frontman w/ a band, is that it would be amazeballs to have REAL Lestat concerts, either pre-TV series release, or during (or both, both is good). ACTUAL TOUR DATES & MERCH CAN YOU EVEN??

AR has the rights back to the VC to make adaptations, the new book is crackier more imaginative!! than we ever could have imagined, there’s an official VC FB asking for casting suggestions and some have been… also imaginative (did I hear Orlando Bloom suggested for Armand? And Sebastian Stan for Louis?)…

I love that we’re all excited and horrified and stimulated by all this! IDK KNOW WHAT TO TELL U OR ADVISE YOU I CANNOT EVEN I DON’T KNOW MY OWN HEART ON THIS IT’S SO FRUSTRATE it’s a good frustrate tho. Like trying not to scratch a mosquito bite but if feels so good to do it but you know you’re making things worse, even when it starts to bleed it feels good!! that’s sort of how I feel.

Please check Anne Rice’s facebook page, she’s talking about a television series!! She said she has the theatrical rights for Vampire Chronicles once again!! A TELEVISION SERIES OMG

YES. WOW. A TV series could cover a lot more ground than one movie or a trilogy/series of movies, and lock in a cast for a long period of time, lots of benefits to that medium! The way TV series seem to invite fan engagement lately is also a factor, whether it’s a negative or a positive is up to how the showrunners handle that… fanservice can be good or bad.

(I got a ton of messages like this in the past few days, catching up on them is like trying to drink from a fire hydrant and I love it, the booksigning last night actually really helped settle my thoughts on it all.)

So this is relatively old news even though it was only 5 days ago that the bomb dropped on us, we’re all reacting in our own way, I’ve seen some of the posts and will be sharing/reblogging them, from what I can tell so far there’s a lot of anticipation, anxiety, support, and also disappointment and what the heck happened w/ Josh Boone?!, the main questions seem to be: 

Who is going to join the team now?! and,

Will this adaptation be faithful to the books?!

In answer to these, at the booksigning last night (11/30/16), AR had this to tell us about the new TV series:

  • It’s been 8 yrs that the adaptation has been in the works in Hollywood, but she didn’t elaborate on what kept it from progressing (AR and CR must know, they’ve probably learned a thing or two about what obstacles lie in their path on this, I feel like they can navigate these things better now than ever before).
  • Their official VC FB has gotten 2.8 million hits and thousands of shares so far!
  • AR and CR are writing the pilot episode and a treatment for the first 2 seasons. And it seems like they want to perfect their vision before inviting others onto the team.
  • Their agents are deluged w/ phone calls from producers and studios who want to talk with AR and CR whenever they’re ready 😀
  • AR thinks it’s gonna work out this time. She and Christopher recognize that TV and film are collaborative art forms, and there will be compromise, but they will be polite and firm that it’s not gonna happen if it’s not the way they want it to be. <– Appears to be their commitment to be faithful to canon.
  • This whole book tour is celebratory of them getting the rights back ❤

do i have to read the mayfair witches books to read the crossover books??

I always recommend reading the earlier books before the later ones bc that’s the order in which AR explored the characters. #READ THE BOOK.gif 

The crossover books will spoil things or may leave some things confusing/unexplained which happened in the original Mayfair series, so if you don’t want to be spoiled that way, y’know, start at the original books.

I’m not as familiar with the Mayfair series* bc I read them a long time ago and didn’t reread them… but you’ll probably see the witches as richer characters when you know what they’ve been through before the hybrid novels (AR calls the crossover books “hybrid novels”). IIRC, sometimes past events are referenced in the hybrid novels, but not fully revisited from other POVs as happens in VC. 

*One exception is Merrick Mayfair, who isn’t mentioned in the original Mayfair trilogy, she’s in Merrick.

For example, Mona Mayfair is no ordinary witch, and so when we see her in Blood Canticle (Mona was so awesomely sassy in BC!), it feels like she gains back an inner strength about herself (from the earlier Mayfair books) that may have been lost. 

Also relevant: at the booksigning last night (11/30/16), someone asked AR if we’d see more of Rowan or the other Mayfairs in future books, and AR basically said she doesn’t think so, bc the hybrid novels haven’t worn well over time, and that she feels the original Mayfair trilogy is good as it is (also, she wrote it in a house in NOLA she no longer owns; it’s harder to get back into that universe from another location). We do have some Mayfair mention in PLROA tho, so clearly AR is keeping some things from the hybrid novels and tossing others so i d e k.

^yah so I don’t have access to any photoshoppin’ tools rn but whatever… that is yours truly and @roselioncourt.

So LOTS of things happening and tbh I’m a little overwhelmed by all the info we’ve gotten in the last week, and the posts in response, some of which I’ve seen… and I was trying to keep up w/ it all on my phone the whole frickin’ time it was happening (I have 100+ tabs open *laughcries* and the phone is not a happy camper)… it’s a little overwhelming. 

As Ron Swanson famously said: “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.” I’m gonna whole-ass all the things when I have the time this weekend, I got all your messages and plan to do massive replies. Also need to make a post about the PLROA booksigning, I took notes (altho there is a video of it on the official VC FB).

… I also have to read the new book (!!!)… I asked for spoilers and you should know that I *facepalmed* or “Oh, Anne”’d at almost every new piece of canon information.
