So. Is fanfiction okay now? Like, I’m sure Queen Anne isn’t still chasing people down with legal papers, but did we get outright approval to post stories? When did that happen?

Short answer: Yes, fanfic is okay now. AR now “ignores fanfiction.” That’s her current stance. We don’t have her approval, we have her tolerance. Not sure exactly when that happened (but there are timestamps in my FB screencaps below).

*~And AO3 has pledged itself as a safe haven* for fanfic writers to post their works!~*

*meaning: AO3 will attempt to defend the writers against copyright infringement claims. The legality of fanfic is nebulous right now, as the courts are slowly defining fanworks under the Fair Use doctrine on a case-by-case basis.

Also this is relevant, from 2014: “A big congratulations to Anna Todd, 25 year old author of One Direction fan fiction, "After” on her new deal with publishing house Simon & Schuster and her movie deal.”

In her comments below, AR seems to compare her inspiration of Hollywood’s vampire movies made in the ‘40s as being similar to Anna Todd’s inspiration re: the boy band 1D. In a way, AR is saying what we all know that writers ARE influenced by outside sources, in various media; Anna Todd’s work cannot be simply written off (no pun intended) as purely derivative fanfiction of 1D just like AR’s work cannot be simply written off as purely derivative fanfiction of Hollywood’s vampire movies made in the ‘40s. 

Not that anyone has accused AR of that that I’m aware of, but it might have been an issue raised in 1975 when IWTV first came out.

Do you ever stop to think about how blessed we are that this fandom is small and old enough to not have been penetrated by the sjw movement?

For the most part, yes, I am grateful for that blessing EVERY DAY. Seriously. Every SJW™ argument that passes my dash, I breathe easier when I see that it’s not for OUR fandom.

Fiction =/= Reality. Fiction has been used for centuries to explore and investigate things we love about Reality, things we don’t understand, even things we find repulsive about Reality. Fiction is in fact Speculative Reality: “What if X happened to Y? How would that improve our understanding of X and Y?”

To investigate the text thoughtfully is one thing, but our fandom veterans -myself included- can see that a lot of this SJW Culture™ seems more about “calling out,” choosing a Problematic™ topic to battle with (there are tons in our canon to choose from!) and using that as an excuse to attack, rather than the desire for a rational discussion. They often do this in the name of Righteousness (for popularity? Or just their own satisfaction?), but there are so many Problematic™ topics that are NOT simply black or white, topics which have been argued about long before the internet, and will continue to be argued about forever! I’ve seen good blogs deactivate (or go on hiatus) for being dogpiled for the slightest headcanon or SJW disagreements, and that’s not what I want to promote in our fandom, regardless of who’s right.

PSA: If you ever see one of my posts that gets you all fired up like “Ooooh she is so wrong about this and I’m gonna lay the SMACKDOWN now!” just know that I do not, as a general policy, engage in public SJ debate. I might be willing to discuss things privately if you approach me in a respectful manner with facts to back up your claims. I don’t run this blog for Social Justice™ points. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE™ POINTS.

I read a while ago about some scenes filmed in IWTV but not ending out in the final cut as we all saw it. Is there any chance under the moon and stars for us to see these scenes? In the anniversary blu-ray, I’ve heard there is a new documentary but no news on deleted/extended scenes from the movie on this blu-ray.

It is criminal that we don’t have the cut/extended scenes or new features after TWENTY (20) YEARS. Fortunately, Neil Jordan is very aware that we want these and hopefully he’ll do smtg about it.

Officially, as far as I know, there are no cut/extended scenes on any edition of IWTV *cries forever,* but allegedly there’s a new vid on the 20th Anniversary Blu-Ray: “Lestat, Louis, and the Vampire Phenomenon: A conversation with author Anne Rice about her influence on the new wave of vampires as heroes and anti-heroes.” but that isn’t a cut scene so like whatever idec.

AS FOR CUT SCENES, OUTTAKES, ALTERNATE SHOTS, BLOOPERS, ETC., ALL WE HAVE ARE SCRAPS FROM THE TRAILER LIKE THIS ONE:

We know there were other scenes in the script (do the google, it’s easy to find, and very entertaining!), at least one of which was storyboarded partially. 

I console myself w/ production stills and behind the scenes gems that I find *still cries forever* but SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS THAT FOOTAGE. (Guessing it’s Mick Audsley & Joke van Wijk, the editors).
