Hey Lestat! I’m a huge fan! I’m looking for a set of fangs I can wear for Hallow’s Eve or on other occasions when I need a confidence boost, but I want to be as realistic as I can. Would you recommend a style, find me a picture (or take one!) of fangs as close to the ones you have as possible? If nobody makes them properly, I’ll at least need a picture so I can make them myself, since I know where to find all the necessary tools. Thanks in advance!

Fangs do give mortals a noticeable confidence boost; every version of myself I see on the streets of New Orleans is just oozing with it. Even those masquerading in cosplay as Armand or Louis take pleasure in flaunting their fangs. Ā
The only fangs I āmakeā are the ones grown naturally by my fledglings or the one custom pair that I discussed previously, which were realistic in shape but not material. Take note, I actually have six upper fangs. I donāt know why. Something to do with our appetites, perhaps. Thatās all the advice I have on that.
//ooc; so Lestat obviously canāt really take a picture for you! But hereās a pic of Brad trying on fangs for IWTV. More angles here [X]. They did two sets in IWTV, these are the āattackā or āwide-shotā fangs, longer than the normal ones so that theyāre visible from a distance.Ā
Claudiaās here are shorter, possibly bc she was a child, but also bc Michele Burke was going for a vampire makeup in which at first the vampires looked like normal people, but w/ something slightly *off,* that they could conceal the fangs when speaking, passing for normal people, or reveal them if they chose to do so.Ā

^Basically you want the fangs to be long enough to be visible but not interfere when you close your mouth, so theyāre really more draping along the outside of the lower teeth. To get that canine point looking sharp, curving it back like a snakeās makes sense.
The IWTV fangs also involve the lateral incisor, the tooth between the front and the canine, and here itās also kind of pointed backwards here but I think Tomās was done straighter. It also looks like Tom had the first premolars as fangs, too, but Iām not sure. Doing the lower canine is a thing other vampire media does, often. Iām not sure if they did that for IWTV. I donāt think so since this post has Bradās fangs for sale on eBay and itās only the upper teeth.
I imagine straight or curved, having one or two neighboring fangs would be beneficial for gripping a struggling victimās flesh, sharing the strain put on the canines.Ā
Elaborating on your last post about fake fangs, what do you know about fangsmiths? Are those fangs durable? I’m just so curious because they sound awesome!

I actually donāt know the specifics, it depends on the fangsmith, but we have a few
fangsmiths
brought into Halloween Adventure here in NYC leading up to Halloween every year to make fangs, so you might get in touch with that store. They would probably need to be done in person so that the fangsmith can take a cast of your teeth so that their fangs will fit perfectly (my little story about the custom fangs, well, Lestat sneakily gets the cast by making the molds himself w/ Brian, during an evening of experimentation with Alginate ^____^ ) Iām pretty sure the fangsmiths all make their fangs removable.
One fangsmith, who I think is one of the Halloween Adventure ones, isĀ Father Sebastiaan, and he has a gallery and prices. He has a list of pointers about his fangs that are probably true for other fangsmiths:
- āFangs color match your teeth.
- They will last 2-3 years with good care, longer if you are careful.
- Not wise to sleep or eat with them.
- OK for smoking, drinking coffee, tea, alcohol, absinthe and sex.
- Made from high quality dental acrylics.
- 18 years of fang making experience.
- Good for singing.
- Feel like your real teeth when being worn.ā

Iāve also seen my fair share of custom fangs made by dentists who are willing to do cosmetic work, like the plastic surgeons who are willing to make your ears pointy for superficial reasons. Much more expensive, I would assume. Hereās a picture of a fan at a booksigning for PL inĀ ā14 who I think had permanent fangs and hers wereā¦ in my opinionā¦ too big. She reminded me a little more of a sabretooth tiger than a vampiress but hey! It worked for her.Ā
[X] Sorry for the low-res, it was hard to get any snaps of her! Her fangs were concealed when her mouth was closed, but her lip was pushed out to make room, I guess, and I think she had a little difficulty talking. Hers seemed very durable.

Itās not of great interest to me, but I will note that he has gone to considerable research about brushing teeth, he and Daniel bring home these little āself-careā packages: toothpaste of different flavors, devices that spray water or have vibrating bristles, and they test these items out on fruit or each other. I sometimes participate.Ā
There are nights that Lestat returns to me from hunting and his breath is truly atrocious, so he has to do some level of cleansing to be permitted within my personal space. I follow the same etiquette for his sake.
In the past, we would have a basin and would wash before going out, and before going to sleep for the day. Little mortal rituals like these keep us feeling that we have some semblance to humanity still, and perhaps, it is also restorative in the way many acts of taking care of oneself are restorative.Ā
However, itās not necessary for us to brush our teeth in much the same way, I suppose, as it is unnecessary for wild animals. Perhaps itās because we do not consume cooked meat, refined sugars, or flavored drinks. Fareed suggests that we have saliva with a high Ph value, which protects the enamel from demineralizing and thus prevents cavities.
