I have another version without this lighting but my fall-back is always to make shit glow in my artwork so I guess this is the version I’m uploading! Sorry, I’m so nasty- I was listening to my playlist for them on repeat. Erase my comments and I’m going to come after you.
So interestingly as of 4th of November the official IMDB page for the new film has changed to The Vampire Chronicles. And now seems to be officially in pre-production.
I don’t have any other news but I’ll share yours, good find, @claudias-ashes! IT’S REALLY HAPPENING!
However, I would suggest that this is still just a temporary title, bc Josh Boone intends to adapt TVL and include some of IWTV in it, do a trilogy and possibly a TV series for ALL the side characters, so for now, it’s probably safest to put it all under this blanket title. @phoenifia/@firelight-fadinglinked us to an article about that, here’s the relevant snippet:
But the fact that the status was updated to “Pre-production” so recently is promising!
Of course I can’t find it now but @laurasking and I were rolling around the idea that it could be great to have this film begin in a darkened theatre, playing movie!IWTV, and then we pull back to see Lestat is watching it there by himself. He rented the theatre just to watch it on the big screen ALONE, …he stops the film, slings an arm over the back of the chair beside him, and he turns around in his chair to look at the viewer and break the 4th wall with:
“Do you believe this garbage? *gestures at the screen* Let me tell you what really happened.”
I know what you mean, Louis would probably agree w/ you for similar (or the same!) reasons why he wants Lestat to stop writing any more books or authorizing his ghostwriter to do so.
[I just don’t want movies to cheapen it or represent the books in a bad light…]
^So I think Josh Boone is going to handle the material very respectfully, looking at the way he tagged up the Stand for that adaptation, he clearly is treating that book like it’s the Bible for that project *u* We’ll see how the Stand fandom (what do they call themselves? now I’m curious) reacts when that adaptation comes out, as my Dad says, “The proof is in the pudding.”
Anon definitely has some valid concerns, but I wouldn’t worry too much for the reasons given above from Burnadette and myself. Also, on your concern with Boone representing the books in a bad light or cheapening it, evidence has been shown on his twitter that he has been taking careful account of the series and been communicating with Anne pretty well, enough for the both of them to show love and gratitude to each other. Take this recent conversation for example:
And there are other mentions all over the place with Boone mentioning his love of the series. I think we’re in good hands 🙂
Reblogging for @firelight-fading/@phoenifia‘s comments. We don’t have a wide sample size to state it beyond doubt but we’ve seen that when AR is involved (movie!IWTV, Claudia’s Story), the VC adaptation tends to be hella better than when she’s not.
I actually think VC would work much better as a TV series than movies, since there is SO MUCH GOOD CANON. Each book has more than one movie’s worth of material in it, a TV series could go through scenes more carefully and potentially include more! Look how careful Hannibal was.
The fact is that we are supposed to get a TV series as a supplement to the movies! Josh Boone is adapting it into what he intends to be 3 movies and a TV series:
I know what you mean, Louis would probably agree w/ you for similar (or the same!) reasons why he wants Lestat to stop writing any more books or authorizing his ghostwriter to do so.

[…or for it to get overly popular-]
^It might get overly popular! We might have overly fanatic fans! But we can handle that, we already deal with having the Facebook factions of the VC fandom, some of which are pretty zealous in their loyalty to AR, and from what they ask her (like ”Is Lestat really bisexual/gay???”) I wonder how they read the same books as we did. Just bc there’s more interest in it doesn’t mean you have to participate w/ the influx.
We also had an influx when Prince Lestat came out, and they seem to be absorbing into our ranks alright.
[…or the worst scenario- for it to be associated with the vampires of today *shivers*]
^Comparisons will be made to other vampire media, reviewers will review, haters gonna hate. You can tune all that out. Boone knows it will be held to the standard of movie!IWTV, and the standard of all his fave vampire media, so I’m sure he won’t invest the time and effort into smtg he knows can’t handle that level of scrutiny.
I think everyone needs to keep in mind that everyone doesn’t share a collective mind- everyone read these books individually so everyone is going to have a different opinion on how certain plot events happened and how certain characters look. Boone is one of those people and he’s the one in control of how this film will look and develop…
#Your headcanon may vary😉
On that note, just because a new film is coming out doesn’t mean that the values of past productions, like the IWTV movie with Tom Cruise, decrease. You can still enjoy it. You can still view Tom Cruise as the “perfect” Lestat. You can still choose to ignore the new film. What the new film does mean for the fandom is possible growth. Old loves for the books series will be rekindled and people will hopefully return. New fans will emerge who enjoy the film or are curious about the books. Considering Rice has lessened her hold on fanfiction restriction, that means more fanworks will possibly be generated. Lots of good things on the way even if the film is a flop.
So all in all, stay positive, go see the film to support Rice and the series if anything and if you don’t like it then it’s a done deal and you can fall back on other VC-related works. We’ll get through this irregardless.
I
was briefly talking with @i-want-my-iwtv yesterday in regards to all
the “excitement” surrounding possible casting choices in the new TVL
film to which I brought up my personal choice for the Brat Prince
himself.
You may recognize Sam Claflin better as Finnick Odair from the Hunger Games
series. In fact, it was Claflin’s portrayal of Finnick which led to me
considering and then later choosing him as Lestat in my fancast, with
many similarities between the two characters.
*Note: my fancast only contains actual actors/actresses- not models or
any other sort of face claim. So, all picks essentially have acting experience
for me to base my choices on. If I were to choose a face claim, it would have to be Martin
Rowlinski, considering when Lestat visits me in my kinky dreams, he looks like
Martin Rowlinski (there was another dream where he was in a Pride parade
with a bright green fishnet top and rollerblades, but I’ll save that
for another time).
So why Sam Claflin? For starters,
Claflin facial and bodily characters match those of the book’s not just
in detail, but in expression and movement of them as well.
Here’s
Claflin himself rocking the shoulder length blonde hair as Prince William in Snow White and The Huntsman, not
necessarily curly but with some wave to it. Sam Claflin is 5′11″ and 30 years old according to IMDB, so the height is a close match. As for the age, he’s very youthful looking, and age hasn’t stopped Anne in her own choices so, I think it’s fine. As for the well shaped but
large and animated mouth…well…
These were too great to not include…
Claflin
also has a lot of experience with one particular character type that
will be handy in portraying Lestat, and that is the romantic action
hero. He might not always be the central character when he takes on this
trope, but Claflin’s character will always be involved in a plot angle
focused on love, beauty, blind bravery, and heroics. A sassy, snarky
attitude may or may not be included alongside that heart of gold (but is
more than not). For good or evil intent, I feel this is a key part of
Lestat’s character, but not the only key part.
Hit the (Read More) for the full explanation…Well? Go on.
It could be wrong in EVERY possible way. *hugs* It will definitely be wrong in SOME WAY to SOMEONE bc we all have different headcanons.
BUT, that said, and having cuddled you warmly, it’s just a movie! Your headcanons are yours and you can retreat into fanfic 😉 That’s what I did re: movie!QOTD which I have like 12% care for (and most of that goes to Aaliyah).
Just bc the cover of the script had “Interview with the Vampire” as the title for this project, that doesn’t mean he’s redoing that movie.
It’s possible that Josh Boone & Co. don’t want people to confuse this project with the musical!TVL. And IWTV is the more recognizable title to sell it on. They intend to make a trilogy and spinoff series, and in order to do that, they need to at least include some of the first book.
I think @firelight-fading put it really well in their post here, which I will quote some lines from, (I bolded a few things for emphasis):
I think everyone needs to keep in mind that everyone doesn’t share a collective mind- everyone read these books individually so everyone is going to have a different opinion on how certain plot events happened and how certain characters look. {2/2} Yes, these are the Right Questions. You know that’s just my reference to the line in the movie, right? Not to be taken as intimidation, Armand may have meant it more like, “Ask the questions that I have good answers for so it will make me look smart and attractive to you.”
Yes, they can get drunk off of victim blood!
Lestat mentions it first in IWTV: “Wine…Both of them had drunk too much wine. I found myself tapping the fence posts with a stick to make a tune,” he laughed. “But I don’t like it, the dizziness. Do you like it?’ And when he looked at me I had to smile at him because the wine was working in him and he was mellow;… his face looked warm and reasonable…”
Okay whatever we know u LOVE it, Lestat.
But they can’t drink it directly from the bottle bc Ricean vampires lose alot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize it.
Which is pretty much the case w/ smoking, too. The other obstacle is that they don’t really aspirate. They sigh and huff and whatever for dramatic effect, but they don’t technically BREATHE. But how can they talk, then?? Well SOME air is passing through, but not the amount we mortals need.
I do think Lestat smokes cigarettes just to irritate Louis, and also to satisfy his oral fixation, his need to fidget w/ smtg, and as an excuse to carry a cool lighter around ;D
So as far as the Night Island coven collectively blazing it (this image is making me grin so hard #FANART REQUEST), they can take a victim like Rihanna here, let her do the work and look gorgeous, and then they can pass her around, respectfully. The rule is Bite-Bite-Pass ^,….,^
I think you’re thinking of smoking mentioned in movie!IWTV:
Louis: Perhaps you’d like another cigarette? Daniel: Yeah, I suppose I would. It’s not bothering you, is it? Louis: No. Daniel: No, I don’t assume that it would be, I mean, it’s not like you’re gonna die from cancer or anything, is it? Louis: No, I don’t think so.
In book!IWTV, Louis dispels the myth about vampires transforming into steam (I cut it a bit for length):
Daniel: And what about the rumor about keyholes? That you can … become steam and go through them. Louis: I wish I could. How positively delightful. I should like to pass through all manner of different keyholes and feel the tickle of their peculiar shapes. No. That is, how would you say today … bullshit?
{½} Absolutely NOT a stupid question! Congrats on earning the post-final exhaustion ;D
I loooooooooooooove vampire biology questions
sign me the FRACK up 👌👀👌👀👌👀👌👀👌👀 good shit go౦ԁ sHit👌 and it required 2 separate answers so yeah that’s why this took so long, had to really consider it.
You are correct, Ricean vamps can’t eat food. Blood doesn’t need to be warm, specifically, but it needs to be coming from a LIVING victim.* Even more fun when that victim is almost blackout drunk like Louis is here (more on that in my second response to you):
I don’t recall any specific mentions of lipstick or chapstick in canon! ANY. So I’ll go with my own headcanon and say that it probably varies, vampire to vampire, but I would guess that their heightened senses make the texture of lipsticks and lipglosses interesting to wear and kiss on others.
The flavored makeup would probably not taste good to them like it does for us since those flavors are meant to simulate actual food; cherry chapstick – which I personally love bc it gives you tint and a pleasant smell/taste – would probably taste like a smear of motor oil to a Ricean vampire.
Can you imagine Lestat pulling out a napkin and wiping off your lipstick before he kisses you? “There that’s better. That ah…. color didn’t suit you.”
*Dead blood is not really poisonous on its own, but is just very distasteful, like really old coffee.
When Lestat is sickened in IWTV, it’s bc it’s dead blood, the victim’s soul had already left, but the blood was still warm from the laudanum. Vampires have an intense dislike for being near dead bodies, Lestat was probably so overcome that Claudia seemed to want a truce that he ignored all the red flags ;A;
