Interview With The Vampire Original Concept Art

OMG yes! I had a few 1700′s style (or 70′s 1700′s revival…) shirts as a teen, and the tugging motion of pulling those laces from the jacket sleeves is very familiar! Though I didn’t wear leather, I had a ugly burgundy velvet jacket. And I drove a bicycle, not a sports car. (This was mainly David Bowie’s fault, I didn’t read VC until I was 18…)  That motion/gif reminds me of listening to glam rock from my walkman and feeling like the most bad ass under-appreciated 14 year old hot mess in town.

Ugly burgundy velvet jacket is also VC. There’s definitely some David Bowie in Lestat (fashion, looks, attitude, musical prowess, etc!). Especially Jareth!Bowie.

Goblin King vs. Brat Prince? I always thought these two moments were worth comparing and now you’ve given me an adequate excuse to do it! They’re both pining for the affections of a brunette… they both use a kid to try to hold onto their brunette… So many comparisons…

Lestat (and Jareth!) is kinda the most bad ass under-appreciated 14 21 200+ year old hot mess in town.

I love how in all the books, regardless of whose talking Louis is described as ‘the pretty one’. Vampires in Anne Rice novels are all described as being beautiful in some way, death making them so. But in a supernatural world populated by Beauties, characters need to spend pages gushing about Louis looks. His utter bafflement at this and the other characters gushing make me laugh every time its brought up.

Its funny, I was very “leather and lace” in high school, I wore the frills, lacey scarves and gloves and sleeves, feathered details, but always wore this black motorcycle jacket over it, and matching boots under the skirt, and that clip in the film of Lestat tugging the lace to show out of the sleeves of his jacket is one of those iconic fashion moments for me.

omg you must’ve looked wickedly cool. It’s an excellent combo. The girlier the lace, the grungier the leather, the better.

Re: it being an iconic moment: Oh I agree! It’s one of his most iconic moments in the movie, for sure, specifically bc it relates to fashion and a little bit about just being comfortable; bc when sleeves are bunched up like that it limits your range of motion, not good for driving but i digress. AND because we can see his hands are back to normal, he’s definitely feeling better already, and ready for another adventure… with Daniel this time!

Wreck This Journal page of mine that I’m most fond of. I used a shimmery orange watercolor to smear my fingerprints down the page, then traced my hands atop and added all the elements to mimic a favorite vampire of mine.
