Another fanart of Lestat from the Vampire Chronicles. We drew it something like 15 years ago and the pic was taken with a camera from the original drawing⌠sorry for the bad resolution. ^^ Hope you like it all the same!
Your question⌠is it a question? Iâm so confused. You say Marius is Lestatâs maker and maybe thatâs a typo, or maybe you accept movie!QOTD as canon, either way, itâs not my headcanon.
Lestat gave Louis the choice to be a vampire, because when Lestat was forced by Magnus into being a vampire, that was essentially a form of rape. Lestat tells Nicolas (TVL):Â
âWhen it was offered me I said no. I tell you I said no. With my last breath, I said no.âÂ
The ramifications of rape are many and I wonât go into detail here, but it had an enormous impact on Lestatâs well-being, and in his relationships with everyone in his afterlife.Â
Lestat wanted Louis to choose it, to WANT to be a vampire, he wanted it to be consensual, to spare Louis the damage of what Lestat had to deal with.
When Lestat teases Louis about his âwhining,â itâs partly out of frustration; he saw in Louis a kindred spirit, and in book!IWTV he explained that killing was part of the deal, and Louis accepted the Dark Gift but then, fledgling!Louis was aghast at taking human life! In later canon, Louisâ âwhiningâ is actually just putting up any rational resistance at Lestatâs ideas for adventure.Â
VC itself was born from Lestat not having a choice when Magnus forced him into vampirism, in the sense that none of the books would have been written if Lestat had chosen NOT to become a vampire. If Lestat had died the night that Magnus kidnapped him, or been released and died later, as a mortal, he wouldnât have turned any fledglings, Louis wouldnât have been a vampire in the 1970s to be interviewed, Louis probably would have succeeded in killing himself over his remorse about the death of his brother⌠there would be no IWTV, no TVL,âŚÂ
But Armand would still have existed, as would Marius, and others who existed long before Lestatâs mortal birth. Maybe VC would have been about them.
âAs well you should have! Thatâs an appropriate uniform for my birthday, indeed *grins* Many thanks for your lovely message.Â
That musical has some good music, but my own music is better, and I really must get back to the studio and record some fresh tunes for my adoring fansâŚ
Your Music is hard to attain, dearest. I, although I admit to not having tried my hardest to find it as of yet for I am not given enough hours in the day, have yet to find any of your personal work. I would love it listen to it every waking moment of my life (I would play your music at my funeral tbh) if I could, but it seems I am unable to. (@i-want-my-iwtv)
â The issue is that some people felt my music had explicit lyrics that might be harmful to children – really only half of the songs were, somewhat, more adult in nature – and these groups gathered together and apparently shattered many of my albums and they melted the cassettes!
Sadly, few copies exist and even I donât know where they are! As for the master recordings, well, I would make fresh copies and sell them, but upon further reflection, they could use some remastering, so youâll have to wait until I get around to that. Iâd play my music at someoneâs funeral, hell, I already put the âfunâ in âfuneralâ as it is *smirks*
For now, listen to David Bowie, Bon Jovi, Guns ân Roses, Sting, and the Boss, those are several of my major influences *winks*
You know, Moon over Bourbon St. was inspired by Louisâs book? Itâs true, or so Iâve been told.
âAn axe is a close-range weapon, would you really want to have to be that near to these repugnant animals? I wouldnât.Â
If theyâve done such things, they should be hit with the full extent of the law, and learn how to touch people appropriately by finding themselves violated in prison. Thatâs a far better punishment than death for them, having to learn things in such a visceral way.
JCB was a somewhat popular FC for Lestat RPers at one time, so your opinion is/was shared by others!
^He already played a vampire in Twilight, but I didnât see that⌠Idk if heâd be willing to play another vampire. He looks good in period costume, Iâll admit that, and the makeup/hair team really transformed him. This is 100% better vampiry appearance than QOTD!Lestat (but thatâs setting the bar preeeetty low, ROFL).
Personally, I find JCB too thin, so bony, such angular features⌠but I havenât seen his acting so itâs unfair to judge him just superficially. He has a lot of theatre experience and he seems quite charming from his quotes on his IMDB page. He might be great! I would definitely screen-test him if I was in charge of things.
[^XÂ I will say that these are some excellent silly faces and our Lestat has to be able to pull of his easy sense of humor, too!]Â
The fact is, we all have our own ideals of beauty and our own headcanon of these characters. Itâs highly unlikely that one actor will satisfy all of our expectations, and @cdf-archive (now @coeur-de-feu) was a Lestat RPer who used JCB as a FC, and they wrote up a great post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt below:Â
âThere will always be inconsistencies, everywhere you look. But itâs not really even whether or not I find him perfect. Itâs his imperfections that make him perfect, to me. And perhaps thatâs what Magnus found in Lestat – his imperfections gave him an indescribable yet authentic beauty and Magnus wanted to immortalize those features by turning Lestat into a vampire, even though Lestat did not want it. It was okay with Magnus that Lestat had a few things here and there that werenât completely perfect; he found him extraordinarily beautiful, regardless.â
#Eloquent eloquence
Also, check out @cdf-archiveâs actual archive to see more pics of JCB, some of them are good promos in a VC-aesthetic which you might like!Â
âWHAT HUGO DOES WITH EVENTS, ANNE DOES WITH PEOPLE.â
YOU PUT IT IN PERFECT WORDS. Thatâs exactly it, Victor Hugoâs characters are great and well drawn, but because of the third person narration, they are a little less personal; but his take on the events of Notre Dame and Les Mis (for the two best known examples), feel like actual accounts of history.
Sure, Anneâs got chararacters that are immortal walking between heaven and hell (litereally) but at the same time, theyâre talking to you and just feel so real.
#eloquent eloquence #SEE THIS is what Iâm talking about when I say Iâm picky about other vampire media, these are strong and rich characters first, and theyâre vampires secondarily.
THERE WAS AN EXCELLENT POST ABOUT THAT LIKE A YEAR AGO let me show you it! [X]
@deslea:Â
Once upon a time, there were three brothers. Their land could not hold all their egos, so they divided their kingdom into three. One ruled over the elves, one over the goblins, and the third over wizards.
@xenophonrising:Â There was a fourth brother, whom the other three did not speak of. His name was Lestat, and his rule took a while to be implementedâ eleven books, to be precise.
@i-want-my-iwtv:Â âAll of them had hair of gold, like their mother. The youngest one in curls.â
Well⌠your message sat in my inbox for 5 days bc this is a question every reader has to answer for themselves. It partly depends on how much canon youâve read.Â
[^X âI love him in ways that I canât explain to other people. They donât understand⌠itâs not their fault.â is that not canon?!]
IWTV is Louisâ account of their time in that era, and as @vraikâ astutely pointed out, Louis admits that heâs holding back information when he says âIf I held something too close for you to ask about it, I would not bring it up in the first place.â Lestat says as much near the end of TVL, that Louis left many things out. *~Unreliable narrators!~*
And movie!IWTV had even less of what Louis says in the book, because it had to be edited for the sake of time⌠many scenes in the book were not in the movie. Also, it was made in the early 90â˛s, keep in mind that it pushed the envelope for its time re: showing any homosexuality.
tl;dr: I ship Louis/Lestat, I donât need to define my ship as romantic, sexual, or platonic, etc. I just hardcore ship them TOGETHER.
Hit the jump for more, cut for length.
While they donât âdateâ in canon, Louis talks about Lestat in IWTV with a lot of fascination, and later, Lestat writes about Louis with a lot of fascination, too (more, really!)⌠and they donât actually kiss in canon until the 3rd book, right before Lestatâs big concert, and then theyâre separated again soon after. Itâs a ship that takes alot of Read Between the Lines.
Most of the vampires who are turned in canon are turned bc their makers love them so much that they canât let their loved one be perishable any longer. Whatever Louisâ perception was of IWTV!Lestat, it seems clear to many of the fandom that Lestat chose Louis for more than his wealth and/or friendship, and that now, in later canon, the feelings between them are mutual.
io9: Thereâs the concept of Louis and Lestat as Claudiaâs âparents,â which we see in the novel, movie and now in the graphic novel. When you know the narrative, itâs not quite the modern statement it could appear to be visually, in the adaptation. Are you okay with that as an idea for the new century?
AR: Sure! [Laughs] Sure! I never thought of it, they were the first vampire same-sex parents.
io9: I had wondered if that had been a thought on your mind before.
AR: No.
io9: Thatâs the way that it seems to be shown, itâs very much âsheâs our daughter now.â So I can say, theyâre a same-sex couple with children?
