Ahhh, well, ALL kids are some degree of chubby if they’re healthy, that’s called baby fat! 

I don’t remember her childhood story too well, tagging @roselioncourt for that, but I think it was a rough childhood before she was rescued? I pictured her as unhealthfully slender during that time. But maybe when Lestat rescued her and brought her to live with her new parental figures, there could have been a time period in which she reveled in the treats and might have gotten a little more than healthy baby fat! 

Definitely hella cute & cherubic. At any size.

I didn’t see the Twilight movies well I’ve seen bits but not suffered through an entire movie on its own and Mackenzie Foy could have been a good kid!Rose.

^Inquisitive nature. Uncle Lestan loved these kinds of pics, especially in daylight, when she seems oblivious to the camera, just letting nature charm her.

^I really like this coat. Fake fur from Uncle Lestan, because she wanted a fur coat but stipulated that it couldn’t be real. She didn’t want to hurt any animals for it.

^This smile, this is what Uncle Lestan would do just about anything for! Perform whole soliloquys while doing handstands, pretend the floor is lava, make silly noises, funny faces, anything. ❤

^She has serious stage presence already. And not afraid to wear fancy fabrics do you realize that that is EYELET?! You know how easy it is to ruin eyelet? VERY. And navy is a pretty mature color for a kid. She’s got her “uncle’s” fashion sense already ;]

// The number one thing that bothers me about Rose’s story in PL is that she both swallows and has acid thrown on her face and neck, including her eyes, and is somehow healed perfectly by the magic of Vampire blood. I realize it is a supernatural story, and that I am able to suspend my disbelief to believe that Vampires are real in the story and that they fly and all the other stuff. And their blood has been proven to heal wounds, though it has its limits. It cannot regrow limbs or organs lost before the transformation. 

So Rose, who is both blind and mute by the end of the ordeal, should not have been able to be healed with Blood. I feel like it’s AR’s way of making everything okay for her special Mary Sue Self Insert. After all, if her plan all along is to kill off two strong female characters by the end of the book, one whom happens to be blind, and the other mute, then of course the special snowflake won’t be disabled either. 

I firmly believe I’ve read Rose’s chapters more times than anyone by this point, all in the name of perfecting her nonexistent character. What happens is I find a trait mentioned in one sentence or one line and extrapolating out that to her whole life. Now, the same could be said of many side characters in VC. But I still feel like the end to Rose’s story could have been far more interesting than what we were given.

Not specifically about the acid (bc I have not reread her sections i just can’t bring myself to revisit that entire book yet), but I think you’ve actually articulated here what I couldn’t, about why I still can’t find love in my heart for her, an entire year after the release of that book. It’s not just me being a cranky old Earlier Canon Was Better preacher! *sobs* Thank you, nodominion-mun. It took guts to actually put this out there.

Absorb into yourself the world around you, because time will soon replace it with something else.  Places shall always remain the same beneath it all, but mortal acquaintances, simple aesthetics, and the way that humanity moves within it will always die and be replaced with something else.  Enjoy all that you can.

//Thanks to the vcsecretgifts Secret Rose Exchange, I now know that June’s birth flower is the Rose. I previously had Rose’s birthday in early July, but now I’ve moved it to late June.  

Now I have the headcanon that her mother didn’t really have another name for her, didn’t really think of one while she was pregnant, and the nurse suggested it in the hospital, telling her of the significance to June. Morningstar thought it was pretty enough, the baby plump with rosy cheeks. Rose, though she hates the comparisons people make with her to the flower, is just happy she wasn’t born in July. Otherwise her name might have been Larkspur. 

What’s your preferred method of killing?

I’m not really used to killing yet. I don’t like doing it. I much prefer to steal a mouthful from a whole bunch of mortals, leaving them dazed, but mostly unharmed.

That’s an unfair answer, especially considering I have killed. So I will try and answer you honestly.

If I need to kill, I often stalk someone for hours. I am trying to follow the only evil-doer rule, and my lack of telepathy means I only feel a kill moral if I witness my victim commit, or attempt to commit, a crime. I do like to stop my victims before they hurt someone else. Intent is enough to kill in my mind.

Often times I will invade a college campus late at night, my senses open to all around me. I’ll wait for a scream, muffled, quiet. Or perhaps laughter, malicious in tone. Within seconds I will be behind my victim, pinning them against whatever hard surface is nearby. I do not lull my prey with sweet dreams. I rip into their throat without remorse. I have learned not to be so greedy, to savor the blood, to swallow with a small stream instead of large gulps. It keeps the human alive longer. Sometimes my victim’s victim is still there, watching in awe. When I am done with my meal, I always make sure they have a ride home, a safe place to stay, and that they will say nothing of what happened.

This reminds me to ask Armand how to confuse mortals. If I have the gift at all.

tbh I didn’t like Rose either, so I feel you. I just hope she’s canon enough cause I feel like I put a lot of characterization into her that may not be canon.
