What We Do in the ShadowsOnly Lovers Left Alive = the VC movie the VC fandom has been waiting for. They go in different directions, obviously, one is a dark comedy and the other is indie, beautiful, light angst. Still. YOU CANNOT ARGUE THE MATH.

OMG OMG OMG I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE ENOUGH!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! I saw it Friday then again SUNDAY! Seriously I don’t think I will love any movie as much as this in 2015~ It was hi-larious but then also had a legit scary sequence and then super heartfelt beats. STU! I can’t even tell you which character was my favorite it changed depending on what point of the film I was at. Also the MUSIC! TOO PERFECT!

^Yep. Good spoiler-less summary. I could totally jam to the music as well. My face legitimately hurt from smiling bc of laughing so much at this movie. It’s going to take a lot to top it. I predict major cult classic status.

Just so you know, side effects may include, but are not limited to: hurt face from laughter, raised expectations on all future vampire parody films ;]

// No, I know what it’s from. XD I was asking why the “eagle two” thing is funny and why “eagle two” is saying “Thank god”.

First of all bc this is how an exchange would go between Lestat and Louis:

“Come in, Eagle One, this is Currently Doing That. Over.”

“Roger, Currently Doing That, what is your ETA? Over.”

“I should be there in about thirty minutes after I rendezvous with It Happened Once in a Dream and If I Had to Pick a Chick. Do you have Been There Done That with you? Over.”

“Sounds good, yes, I have Been There Done That and Eagle Two is on his way as well. Over.”

“Roger that. Currently Doing That: over and out.”

Let me explain u a thing: Well the “Eagle One” thing… he goes with Eagle bc it’s an American symbol of freedom and kickassery. It’s supposed to inspire patriotic and powerful feels.

So the “Eagle Two” thing is funny because… “Eagle One” starts us thinking everyone will just be numerical, like Eagle One, Eagle Two, Eagle Three, etc. but he immediately goes into these code names that are descriptions of how he feels about (or relates personally to) each member of the “team,” like “Been there done that” is someone he slept with, “It happened once in a dream” is like saying “I would be into you in a fantasy situation only”… and they’re all kinda negative in a way. Like ‘Ugh, well, “If I HAD to pick a chick” it would be Jesse.’ we all know Lestat is pansexual so that’s not as funny as it is in Parks & Rec bc Andy is meant to be straight.

When he hesitates on choosing a code name for that last person, it’s because he has no romantic feelings for (and doesn’t really have an opinion about) him, so “Eagle Two” is like, “Hmmm I am neutral towards you.” Which is better than something negative or crude. Hence, Daniel goes, “Thank God” bc he’s glad Lestat has spared him potential humiliation ;]

Especially humiliating to each other bc they’re expected to contact each other with these code names.

I love your new icon! It’s so awesome XD

merci beaucoup! *u*

it’s from here when i considered doing a whole series of Lestat modeling photomanips and i couldnt key out hair as well as i can now and it took awhile to do and well dang thats the story on that! :

Do you believe in vampires?

No.

This is probably a good question for askavampirologist. I think some people think they are vampires for religious/physical/other reasons… I think there are probably diseases that simulate vampiric symptoms (light sensitivity, etc.).

It does somewhat comfort me in an odd way that if there WERE vampires, they wouldn’t truly be immortal, because the Earth is headed for the sun eventually, so unless they coordinate with NASA to ship themselves (and a starter pack of humans and animals to feed from) somewhere safer, they’ll end up as dead as us, too!

Yep, the director alludes to it in the commentary; and then there’s an interview I read with her about the film; she said that she publicly refused to be attached to it when she heard the casting, but then saw the test reel and redacted everything she said. But she still thought the ending was, I forget her exact words, something along the lines of “a pulp horror ending” or something like that.

I don’t remember anything about how she felt about movie!IWTV’s ending, but yeah, there was a whole thing about the Cruise casting, and she certainly changed her tune.

AR’s actual words re: Tom here: http://www.angelfire.com/ri/cerat/AnneOnTom.html

She went from:

“The Tom Criuse casting is just so bizarre, it’s almost impossible to imagine how it’s going to work, and it’s really almost impossible to imagine how Neil, David and Tom could have come up with it.  I have one question: Does Tom Criuse have any idea of what he’s getting into?  I’m not sure he does.  I’m not sure he’s read any of the books other than the first one, and his comments on TV that he wanted to do something scary and he loved “creature features” as a kid, well, that didn’t make me feel any better.  I do think Tom Cruise is a fine actor. [But] you have to know what you can do and what you can’t do.“
an interview  with Martha Frankel, published in Movieline (Jan/Feb 1994)

To:

“ON TOM CRUISE: From the moment he appeared Tom was Lestat for me. He has the immense physical and moral presence; he was defiant and yet never without conscience; he was beautiful beyond description  yet compelled to do cruel things. The sheer beauty of Tom was dazzling, but the polish of his acting, his flawless plunge into the Lestat persona, his ability to speak rather boldly poetic lines, and speak them with seeming ease and conviction were exhilarating and uplifting. The guy is great.

Lestat would have cameo fleur-de-lis on EVERYTHING; he’d bypass just the glitter and go for glitter on top of shimmering materials. Also lace and feathers in typical NOLA style. There would be a fountain, everything that couldn’t be in glitter would be in white leather or silver. As I write I this, I slowly realize I’m also describing the ballroom scene in Labyrinth and now, I’m thinking that Lestat would probably eat that up anyway.

[^Followup to an anon’s ask about Lestat as a wedding planner.]

Yep, that sounds about right. Hey sarahandherlabyrinth! We’re talking bout the Labyrinth!
