Are you part of the vc discord?

No, I am not… I might join it someday! @firelight-fading made it, send them an ask for the link to the server. There are VC ppl actively on there.

I’m so glad I was the one who had to empty
the mailbox today, if my mother found this I would have to do a whole lot of
explaining. Also, the postman probably thinks I’m crazy now for receiving this.

I opened the mailbox hoping that my Ebay package had arrived. But when I looked I saw this, the flipside with
my name on it caught my eye. I never get postcards, from who could this be? I
twist it around and see this crazy picture and suddenly I remember, this is
from I-want-my-IWTV! A big smile appears on my face, I totally wasn’t expecting
this and I had already kind of forgotten about her saying that I would get
this. My fangirl feelings suddenly went through the roof. It was kinda
awesome to pretend that this card might have come from Mr. de Lioncourt himself 🙂  Thank you @i-want-my-iwtv you have made my day. The text on the back was also very fitting.

Afterwards I had to get some groceries
and I was smiling constantly while shopping just because this card was such a
nice surprise. I thought showing it with my VC books would be fitting, so I
did.

I approve of the choice of display <333 And what a nice story to add to it, I’m very pleased with your reaction ^_____^

P.S. There are alot of judgemental postal workers who’ve seen these cards, I’m sure… but maybe some were VC fans? And were jealous?!

ANYWAY you’re very welcome, and actually, I sent myself one for the same purpose… I wanted a card from them, too! *u*

Here’s that fanart by @ashetray, btw.

pop culture intertextuality is just so damn *fascinating*

today a parody movie (50 shades of black) comes out, based on the 50 shades of grey movie, which was based on the 50 shades book, which was based on twilight, which was somewhat based on interview with the vampire (which anne rice based on an earlier short story she wrote), which was based on Dracula and other vampire stories, which originally came from Dr. John Polidori’s The Vampyre (even though Vampires were a thing in folk tales before then, he was the one who made them all classy, etc.)

so really, like so many things, this is all Lord Byron’s fault.

While we’re on the topic of weird VC covers, I wanted to see what the Danish translations have to offer… (you can’t actually buy them in the shops anymore here, the publisher stopped making them 10 years ago lol)

So I found this beauty… (Memnoch)

wtf is that

and then, apparently the same graphic ‘designer’…

And then here are some of the other ones…

“Devil’s Disciple” is honestly a way better title than “Memnoch the Devil” though.

How do the other ones translate, the ones where I can’t lean on cognates to figure it out?

The others are pretty much direct translations, well almost

IWTV = En vampyrs bekendelser = Confessions of a vampire

QOTD = De fordømtes dronning = The Queen of the damned

TOBT = Fortællingen om kropsrøveren = Tale of the body thief

but then there’s this last one…

The Vampire Lestat = Mørkets Fyrste = Lord of the dark ???????

I had to look up which one that was because that title makes no sense to me… Lestat…. lord of the darkness?? LOL

The German Edition of “The Vampire Lestat” is also called “Der Fürst der Finsternis” (The Lord of Darkness)

image

And “Tale of the Body Thief” is simply “Nachtmahr” = Nightmare

“The Vampire Armand” has been retitled to “The scent of immortality” (”Der Duft der Unsterblichkeit”… It was first published as “Der Vampir Armand”) and Merrik was retitled as “The blood of seduction” (”Das Blut der Verführung”)…

Oh, and ALL newer covers look like this:

(Thank you, Guy who designed the german Twilight covers… Please die)

Just sayin I own a “The Vampire Armand” copy with a Movie Lestat on the cover.

gg whoever was in charge of this one.

I was told to add prove here it is in all its glory :’D

I have all of the old Danish VC books with the classic centrum-cover and I actually like how they look on a shelf even if the front covers are pretty weird.

I stopped buying them in translation after Merrick though and I think the last translated one is Blackwood Farm, though I’m not certain.

Lestat, what’s your biggest regret of your immortal life? Or mortal life?

♛There are many regrets, so many to choose from. You like to cut to the quick, don’t you, anonyme? Alright, here’s some blood for you.

Of both, it would be Nicolas. Not being what he needed. Not really understanding him. I could have. Should have done more… I should’ve told him what I was from the beginning, when it happened, I should have had those conversations that would have hurt, but would have been less than the hurt I caused him. I’ll always remember him and regret the way that went. If not for this, the later regrets might not have ever happened. And yet, if not for this, the later joys might not have happened, either. We make hard choices. It is what it is.
