Hello! I hear there is actually a tv series in the making for ‘let the right one in’. The first people have been cast! I just read your thoughts on the swedish movie. Spoiler alert for Elis gender (it doesn’t influence the plot at all tho). Eli was born a boy and her full name is Elias. Eli got castrated while she was turned into a vampire by a vampire. She does say ‘I’m not a girl’ in the book and both movies. But it isn’t clear what she wants to be called or seen as.

Thanks for the info! Wow, we are going to be spoiled w/ all these TV adaptations… all the glorious bingeing…

The whole gender thing for Eli is ambiguous in the films, and, from what ppl who have read the books have told me, also ambiguous in the book.

From what I’ve heard about the book, the character is referred to with female pronouns until the ritual castration is revealed, and then the character is referred to with male pronouns. It is up to every reader’s interpretation to determine gender of the character at any point. If the author wanted us to have a definitive answer, I feel like that answer would have been made less open to interpretation.

  • skeletalroses said: I ~have~ read the book (and seen the Swedish film), and Eli did not seem to me to identify as a cis boy. I could certainly see agender or something as an alternative to the transgirl interpretation, but I’d be pretty skeptical of calling Eli a cis boy.
  • Re: Eli saying “I’m not a girl,” in the films, annabellioncourt said: yeah the book (original and translation to english) and the american film call her “her/she” and its 90% clear she means “not human” in this film.

Hopefully, the TV series will clarify this debate, if it is important to the creators/director to do so. Even without an answer to this, the story is still very compelling and I’m excited to see more of these characters!

If Eli from let the right one in was some how come in to the vampire chronicles universe how would s(he) acted and how would the other vampires think of her(him). I thought I should let a expert of the vampire chronicles series decide on this. Plus I do love vampire crosssovers and let the right one is my favorite bookmovie.

I’m so flattered you consider me a VC expert, but I’m not a Let Me In/Let the Right One In expert, I’ve only seen the two movie adaptations, and from what I can tell, the vampire rules in it are different than the VC vampires rules.

I do have a post about my thoughts on Eli and that story here.

Among other great things, this vampire story also brought back the idea of having to be invited in, and without that permission, the vampire in question would start having physical reactions! Like a severe allergic reaction! We got the blood tears that not many vampire movies want (or are able) to tackle.

I think Lestat and Armand both would find Eli intriguing and would want to compare all the physiological differences in their vampirism, test those rules, and generally try to get Eli to push at the limits, and maybe learn something new. Whether they would embrace her and add her into the coven, that I don’t know. #Fanfic request! #Fanart request!

Eli seemed to need/prefer a human companion. I should read the book, it would be great to have some backstory re: if there had been any other vampires in Eli’s life, whether Eli had ever considered turning someone… whether that was even possible given Eli’s trapped-in-a-child/tween-body thing. I think Eli at least had a maker in the book version, but I don’t know why they were separated.

^More hugs and love for Eli would have been gr9 ❤

 Anyone is free to comment/reblog.

Do you think Marius was jelous when Armand was hooking up with that english lord? Because I think he was, which is curious because he didn’t have a problem with him fooling around with the half of Venice

Marius is one of our more Problematic™

characters in canon, so take every discussion about him and his treatment of Armand/Amadeo with a huge truckload of salt and patience, bc there are some strong opinions out there.

Marius knew about Armand (known then as “Amadeo”) and Lord Harlech. He might have been jealous, but didn’t say so in TVA, only that he was worried for Amadeo’s safety:

“He has quite the reputation, your English lord, slamming down his knife on the board in any tavern he chooses. Do you have to consort with common murderers? You have a nonpareil here when it comes to those who take life.”

@auburnandamberangel, @sheepskeleton@amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance@faceofabotticelliangel, @annabellioncourt@vraik, and @anton-mordrid would all probably have better answers for this… anyone is invited to reblog/comment and add their thoughts.

The main difference I see is that Marius gave Amadeo the autonomy and independence to make his own choices in this regard, and Amadeo was more rebelling against Marius in his fling w/ Lord Harlech than furthering his sexcapades education. It turned out that LH was bonkers, got all weird and overly possessive and wanted to kidnap Amadeo… it was a bad breakup.

[X, @cloudsinvenice said: I’m thinking Armand when he fights Lord Harlech, personally.]

There’s some debate about why Marius sent Amadeo around for all those sexual escapades and I always read it as part of Marius’ full-rounded education deal that he wanted Amadeo to have; to have experienced all the good things in life that can be humanly experienced, and to show him that physical intimacy doesn’t have to be the horrible experience it was when Amadeo was kept in the brothels. Not necessarily the best cure for a sexually abused child/teenager but Marius was probably thinking of it as exposure therapy:

Exposure therapy is a technique in behavior therapy used to treat anxiety disorders. It involves the exposure of the patient to the feared object or context without any danger, in order to overcome their anxiety and/or distress. Procedurally it is similar to the fear extinction paradigm in rodent work.

Hi Lestat, can I come to you for romance advice? Is it bad that I’m jealous of my two best friends (a guy and girl)? We both like him, too. I always feel like a third wheel when it’s the three of us. I feel like they will probably get together soon and they would be cute together, but it kinda sucks. I don’t really know what to do. Maybe you have some good advice (from experience). Thank you Lestat (:

♛This is something I have yet to master myself. I’m more in love with myself than anyone else, so really, when people choose each other over me, it’s more their loss than mine.

It hasn’t happened yet, be glad that your friends are still just your friends. So no need to be truly jealous yet. But yes, being a third wheel is not much fun.

([X] //ooc; ^L/L didn’t do this so explicitly in front of her, but I imagine that’s how Claudia might have felt in general ;A;)

I don’t know enough about your situation to advise you one way or the other, but it is possible to let them date each other if that’s what happens, and their happiness can be your happiness, you don’t have to dump them both as friends just for leaving you out. They’ll still need you separately, if they valued your friendship in the first place.

image

You can ask them not to slobber all over each other when they’re in your presence, though, that seems like a reasonable request.

Of course, if Louis and David “got together” as they say, and left me out, I’d have a tough time being happy for them. Very tough. No. Impossible. They’re not allowed. Absolutely not!

The main thing to remember is that finding a mate shouldn’t be your mission. If it happens, it happens, and if not, then not. But you should never feel lesser because you’re single. Friendship is as valid as a romantic relationship. In some ways, even more difficult. Different definition of intimacy. I’ve known people whose relationships were based mostly on sex and they had little else really in common. It was enough for them, but it wouldn’t be enough for me.

If they do start dating each other and you can’t be happy for them, you should probably not torment yourself by being around them. Focus on other things you’ve been meaning to do, or meet new people.

Good evening, darling. May I ask you a music advice? A song you recommend to listen to in the dark of my room? Right now When Love and Death Embrace by HIM is playing through my headphones. Thank you, Prince ♡

Digging your smile apart
With my spade tongue.
The hole is where the heart is.
We built this tomb together,
And I won’t fill it alone…

Just out of curiosity; Lestat, why do they call you the Brat Prince?

♛It’s a long story, earned over time, I always had the Brat in me, but the Prince part, well, wasn’t born into that kind of royalty, that election may have been rigged…

My coven gave me this illustrious title as an insult but look at me now! I SHOWED THEM. Now I’m the boss of them all. Hah!

Hi there Lestat =) you once mentioned something about ‘preserving musicians for all eternity’ by giving them the Dark Gift; and I know you’re into Bon Jovi, but what about (my personal favourite) David Bowie? I’m still sad that he’s gone… Not sure why, but he reminded me a bit of you, and I think you two would have gotten along great ;) xx

♛I know! I know, I know…  I adore Bowie. I visited him many times, in the eighties up to more recently. We got along very well. We did a few of his songs and a few of mine together, privately. No recording.

[X] We shared the same sense of humor, for sure.

Not that I definitely would have given it to him, but we discussed it. He knew what I was. He didn’t want it.

I told him before any of the doctors did, I could sense… that his time was limited. I wasn’t ready to lose him, we both thought he had more time to consider it.

… Or maybe I did turn him, and he’s living somewhere outside the public eye… you may never know… until he finds you alone at night and you can see his fangs for yourself… *blows a kiss*
