Is Lestat’s dog, Mojo, still alive?

[Soggy Dog / / Sian Jones]

Mojo is unfortunately dead. I don’t remember it said explicitly in canon, but he was already an adult dog in ToBT (published in 1992, story taking place in 1986?), and here we are, 23 yrs later, so… one can assume he’s passed on.

“Humans live as long as they do to learn to love with all their heart. Dogs are born with this ability, and that’s why they don’t live as long.” [X]

There was a beautiful little chapter in a long!fic in which Lestat puts him down humanely ;A;

They’ve since gotten a new dog (in fanon). His name is Murphy, I believe. He will never replace Mojo, and he isn’t meant to. As any dog owner might agree, every dog has its own life and relationship with its family.

If you were interested in trying BV, the first part is free on Amazon UK for kindle (I just ‘bought’ it), and might be on other Amazon sites as well. :)

OuO thanks, maybe one of my followers will give it a try… but still, this is how i feel about trying to actually read it MYSELF…

Papá, I wanted to thank you for eveything. You and Papá Noir, Louis, for saving me back then and for the numerous moments of love that we shared. Happy Father’s Day to both of you, although a little late. I love you eternally. -livingdollclaudia

♛ Mon bijou, on those darker nights when I feel more alone than ever, I often close my eyes, and imagine you near, nestled against Louis and I as he reads us one of your favorite stories. You were always as much mine as his, and we both belonged to you. Was it fate that led him to find you? Was it fate that forced me with burning purpose to keep you with us? I remember your scent – lavender, white gardenia, and chrysanthemums. Spring captured and reformed into the perfect little girl. We love you still.

dear lestat, if you could how would you spent fathers day with claudia? and how would you spend fathers day with your own father?

image

♛ Dear anon – this is a painful question… when I reflect on my own parenting, I have to compare myself to my father. Certain things were, unfortunately, passed down. Even as I tried to be the father he couldn’t be. Interestingly, he had told me little of our family’s origins, for his own reasons, and I had to hold back alot of similar information from my “children.” In my case, however, it was for their own safety. And sanity. Never made that comparison before.

Father’s Day as we know it didn’t exist when they were alive…

Of course, Claudia and I would have special occasions at the slightest excuse, so we did share many nights in celebration of our bond as father and daughter, with and without Louis’ involvement. There were some things he just wouldn’t do!

One such night might include riding out on horseback to the old plantation, she loved the closeness of being held tight to me, the rush of the speed of the animal. We would pretend it was a haunted house, and would hunt for ghosts. I might hire performers in different rooms to play out a story for her. She knew it was an act, but she loved it anyway.

Dinner together, of course. Watching her play with her food was always entertaining, especially when she would look back at me, see that I was proud of her, and then grin wide enough to show her beautiful little fangs!

When I reflect on my father, I see him as mostly an angry presence… it seemed that there was little I could offer him to earn his affection. Even when I provided well for our family (and I use the term “family” loosely here), the most I could ever get from him was a grunt of disappointment in how long it had taken me to do it. One couldn’t simply waltz into a supermarket and just pick up a few packs of prepared meats, I had to chase these things down! With tactics! And weapons!

When we were together at Pointe du Lac, my father had mellowed somewhat by age and infirmity, and we did spend some pleasant evenings together. His hands trembled when we played chess. Those same hands that had struck me countless times for the most minor infractions; it seemed my whole body was allergic to them, even in my altered state. He wanted the comfort of touch in his blindness… but I could only bear to hold his hands in mine a few times. Fortunately, Louis’ family was kind to him, and they brought out a side of him that I hadn’t seen before. He spent hours listening to Louis’ sister play the spinet. She had lost a father, he had never really had a daughter, I was grateful to her for whatever bond they formed between them.

Can you list a few modern professions you feel Lestat would have, if he chose to work?

#billionaire #playboy #philanthropist

The Stark is strong in this one…

TBH I think they sometimes DO try out jobs for fun, Undercover Boss-style. They also challenge each other to take on crappy/difficult jobs and see who can last the longest…

(Armand doesn’t like doing this bc ppl assume he’s one of the bosses’ kids or an intern. He deliberately spills coffee on their workstations for such offensive thoughts.)

Lestat’s diary entry: “Night 3 at Jamba Juice, Armand shows no sign of weakness. I MUST NOT QUIT BEFORE HE DOES”

For serious thoughts on Lestat’s choice of serious jobs, hit the jump.

Lestat is curious about a lot of modern jobs, many of which didn’t even exist in his mortal life, and has probably charmed his way into many, just to try them out. Here’s a list of jobs he might like, if he chose to work (and I use the term “work” very loosely with him):

  1. Musician – of all possible jobs, I think he would be happiest going under a pseudonym, as a trust-fund baby, in a hipster-ish 80’s cover band… doing Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and the Vampire Lestat (tee hee!) hits. Often, he’d reinterpret/rearrange these songs based on the abilities of the other musicians in his band, and for a musical challenge. People comment on his resemblance to the “real” Lestat, and he’s always nonchalant on the surface, but in truth deeply flattered that they remember the “real” one at all ;A;
  2. Antique or jewelry appraiser/ art curator – we know he is a lover of furniture and having lived through some of the eras (and with his enhanced senses) he would instantly know a fake from the real thing.
  3. Fashion designer – a true clothes-horse and fabric- and trimmings-enthusiast! but would probably never touch a needle or sewing machine himself. He would probably be happiest at D & G or Versace, where glamour meets risque and/or comedy.
  4. Advertising – He’s the Don Draper of vampires, no? He can sell anything to anyone. MIND GIFT.
  5. Chocolatier – he may not be able to taste it, but he can smell it. He could employ tasters. He’d certainly go all-out with the packaging.
  6. Writer/Illustrator– well, he already does this, but he should really have more of a presence at Comicon, no? He’s got a hidden drawing talent that even he doesn’t know about.
  7. Driving instructor – probably not a good idea to take lessons from him on this, but I bet he would enjoy doing it, scaring the hell out of the student drivers and everyone else on the road!
  8. Yoga instructor – He is flexible. He’d probably get alot out of seeing his students in spandex. Could he teach relaxation? Probably not.
  9. Florist – Louis I brung u les fleurs! He does love flowers. ALOT.
  10. French teacher – he wouldn’t suffer any plaisantins in his class repeatedly asking him to tell them the French word for “seal.” It’s le phoque, pronounced like, “leh fuck.” My poor French teacher from Belgium didn’t know American slang…
  11. Manny – a male nanny. Very hip on the Upper West Side here in NY. Lestat does love kids. He is great with them, for the most part. Until they decide he doesn’t know how to parent and they try to assassinate him.
  12. Private detective – he already uses his mind gift powers to hunt for bad guys, why not get paid for it, too? Difficulty level: Can’t eat the bad guys. Must turn over to law enforcement, no snacking on the job.
  13. Translator – Difficulty level: actually translating what the speaker is saying/writing WITHOUT mischievously adding/subtracting anything and causing an international war through miscommunication!

Hi, I just wanted to say that your blog is delightful! I love it!

thank u, much appreciate <3!

[X]

Gosh, I was wondering why my post got so popular. I actually feel honored that you noticed it since you’re the one who resparked my interest in IWTV with your hilarious Bob Burger mashup! And nope, I’m not sorry at all ;)

Well your thing was hilarious, I was just glad to have found it! More plz *u*

I always love to hear that my blog inspired a fanwork; that is it’s PRIMARY PURPOSE HAVE I MENTIONED THAT ENOUGH?

Awww thank you, that mashup is probably one of my fave original things I’ve made, too. I have another BB/IWTV mashup just about ready for release… but I’m worried it’s too long, will anyone watch over 1 minute of BB/IWTV mashup? Should I try to trim it?

CAN Y’ALL HANDLE 1 MIN AND 13 SECS OF BB/IWTV MASHUP? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

I know of two male-muns in the fandom. There is also a female/male duo working as a team behind one muse. Won’t identify them in case they’re not wanting to make that general public knowledge as to WHO aside from those they RP with, but they do exist.

Really?!

Reveal yourselves, male-muns. I promise we won’t bite… hard.

Hi! What’s canon? How can I know what’s canon? I am sure it is something the author wrote, but people ask me if I think some books are canon…

“Canon” refers to what is explicitly stated in the books.

image

Such as: the fact that Lestat killed 8 wolves (”And the pack was eight wolves, not five as the villagers had told me.” (TVL)) on that fateful day, earning the “Wolfkiller” nickname.

“Headcanon” is what books/information you personally believe in, that in your mind have occurred in the series. For more on that, hit the jump.

This is partly bc some people most of us think that the VC went off the rails at a certain point, and they didn’t read, or they read and disagreed with, the events that occurred in some of the later books.

So, for example, someone who stops at Memnoch the Devil (#5) will not accept certain events or ships that occur after that book in the series.

This is where we employ #Your headcanon may vary, and #Ship and let ship.

  • If person A accepts all of the books in the series as their “headcanon,” that means that they believe in all of the events and ships that have been written.
  • If person B only believes in books 1-4 as their “headcanon,” that means that they believe in only the events and ships that occur up until that point. (People can skip around, they might accept books 1-3, 5, 6, and 8. Or maybe just 1-4. It all depends on your own imagination!)

If A and B want to RP as the same canon character X, that character will be different based on what X has experienced in canon. Person A’s portrayal may include information and characterization that Person B’s will not, and vice-versa.

That’s partly why people ask about your “headcanon,” to find out whether your muse would be compatible with theirs. After all, if they are RPing as character Y, who first appears in a book you do not accept as canon, then you might have to agree to compromise with them, and find a way to make it work, or you might not be able to RP your muses at all.

We also have a situation here where there are discrepancies between books, we have unreliable narrators who can’t be 100% trusted… such as the scene near the end of IWTV when Louis follows a young vampire to Lestat’s run-down house in NOLA, in which Lestat is crying like a little old lady:

“I could see the tears welling in his eyes; and only when his mouth was stretched in a strange smile of desperate happiness that was near to pain did I see the faint traces of the old scars. How baffling and awful it was, this smoothfaced, shimmering immortal man bent and rattled and whining like a crone.” – Louis, IWTV

Lestat calls bullshit on that moment:

“ ‘Ah, that makes you out to be a perfect liar,’ I said furiously. ‘You described my weeping in your miserable memoir in a scene which we both know did not take place!’ “ – Lestat, TOBT.

Happy headcanoning!
