Hey there, Mr. Filthy Fangs. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do?Just keep killing. Just keep killing. Just keep killing, killing, killing. What do we do? We kill, kill.♫

The Great Mass | Lestat’s Concert

The Vampire Lestat was God; or the nearest thing he had ever known to it. The giant on the video screen gave his benediction to all that Daniel had ever desired. How could the others resist? Surely the fierceness of their intended victim made him all the more inviting. The final message behind all Lestat’s lyrics was simple: Lestat had the gift that had been promised to each of them; Lestat was unkillable. He devoured the suffering forced upon him and emerged all the stronger. To join with him was to live forever: This is my Body. This is my Blood.

– Queen Of The Damned

In IWTV (the book) there’s this women named Babette (I think that’s her name) and it’s been a while since I’ve read the book and I was thinking of her character. Did Louis have “feelings” for her? Did Lestat kill her? Whats her story?

Babette Freneire: “Although Claudia is the main gal in Louis’s life, Babette serves as sort of a prelude. She’s one of a gaggle of sisters (and one brother) on a nearby plantation. Louis describes her as “not only as smart as her brother, but far wiser” (1.180). When said brother is killed by Lestat, Louis urges Babette to defy the gender norms of the time and take over the plantation herself.

“She does. And she is very successful. But there’s always a rub: Babette knows that Louis is some sort of supernatural creature, and she thinks he’s from the devil. She tells him this when his plantation, Pointe du Lac, is burned. Hearing that this woman who he loves from a distance, and who tries to help him, also thinks he’s a demon, he starts to hate himself even more. We didn’t even know that was possible.

Louis gets out of her life, but later he hears that "Babette had died young, insane, restrained finally from wandering toward the ruins of Pointe du Lac, insisting she had seen the devil there and must find him” (1.575). No wonder Louis hates himself. Everything he touches seems to crumble and fall apart.“

I first saw the film on Hallowe’en a few years ago on holiday with some friends (well, by the time it ended it was November…) and then i went to the house of the friend who owned the DVD shortly after and we watched it again (and accidentally had a Stephen Rea marathon as we watched V for Vendetta afterwards – I didn’t even recognize him!), then she let me borrow the DVD and I watched it about 20 times throughout November. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen it since

ouo another one claimed by the VC fandom. It stands the test of time, it can really be rewatched many times, you can watch it for something different every time I sometimes watch it for the extras in every scene, they do a great job, too ;]

Accidental Steven Rea marathon hahaha. I think he would appreciate that.
