Louis and Lestat, how much do you guys hate twilight?

image

[X] //ooc: they are refusing to answer this because they see the Twilight series as the author’s wish fulfillment

fantasy, and they don’t want to step on anyone’s feelings, but neither of them would want to go to high school for centuries, nor do they have any issues killing people now. Lestat is a little jealous of the sparkling tho, so he just wears face and/or body glitter sometimes.

Lestat and Louis, are you excited for the new movie? Honestly, I think it should be made into a tv show because they can’t possibly condense two of the books into 2 hours without making it horrible. Do you guys have anyone in mind to play yourselves?

♛I’m excited for the new movie, Louis not as much… he doesn’t think we should be drawing more attention to ourselves, but why didn’t they just cast me? Creative license, I suppose. As for actors to play us, I’m open to anyone. I actually suggested that Louis play Nicolas, since they’re doing my story first, but he’s not so keen on the idea for whatever reason… I don’t see the issue, we could give him brown contact lenses and style his hair differently…

nightislandofficial:

apparently last night at like 4:30 am i started a louis/lestat comic but i have no clue what about because i filled in zero word bubbles except a few cryptic sound effects.

going on expression, body language and my general knowledge of vampire chronicles as a series, lestat was being annoying.

Are any of the VC vampire religious at all? I know Louis was Catholic when he was human and even asked Armand about God when he was in France with Claudia.

There is so much discussion of this packed into VC that there is no simple answer, this is up to every reader to decide for every character. It fluctuates over time, too.

I headcanon that currently none of the VC vampires we’re familiar with (not including PL) believe in a God/Gods, but I would say that they’re all open to proof, should there be a higher power(s). Most, if not all of them, have a healthy respect for voo doo, witchcraft, and other supernatural practices/beliefs.

Louis was Catholic as a mortal and he did struggle w/ whether, by nature of being a creature that exists by killing ppl (in direct violation of the commandment specifically about not killing ppl) he was therefore from Satan, and Lestat didn’t give him any answers on that:

“Because, you see, though Lestat had never said anything about devils or hell to me, I believed I was damned when I went over to him, just as Judas must have believed it when he put the noose around his neck.”

Hit the jump for more, cut for length.

Armand doesn’t have answers for Louis either, except to say that if Louis is from Satan, then he’s from God by default, too. Armand says: “all Satan’s power comes from God and that Satan is simply God’s child, and that we are God’s children also.”). Armand goes on to give what became the monologue in movie!IWTV about God not existing:

” `Then God does not exist … you have no knowledge of His existence?’
“‘None,’ [Armand] said.

” `No knowledge!’ I said it again, unafraid of my simplicity, my miserable human pain.
“ `None.’
” `And no vampire here has discourse with God or with the devil!’
“ `No vampire that I’ve ever known,’ he said, musing, the fire dancing in his eyes.
`And as far as I know today, after four hundred years, I am the oldest living vampire in the world.’

IIRC, Louis doesn’t talk about religion after that exchange, and AR doesn’t have him talk about it in later books, so we really don’t know what he thinks except that he goes on killing ppl so he must have reconciled it within himself. He and Lestat both like to hang out in churches, tho, so there’s that!

Armand and Lestat go through different phases of believing in God, and neither Lestat nor the others are really 100% sure about what he experienced in MtD (aka “Lestat Goes to Heaven and Hell for an Intense Job Interview, All He Gets Is This Crappy T-Shirt Veronica’s Veil”). But he does try to follow Marius’ example in slaying the evildoer, since they need to kill anyway.

Louis is indiscriminate, it’s whoever crosses his path, he doesn’t want the responsibility of judging someone’s goodness/badness, it’s more of a Savage Garden approach.

Claudia went to Europe looking for other vampires, but she was probably also hoping they had some magic/treatment that could make her body into an adult’s, Lestat dreams about it in TVL:

I dreamed of Louis and Claudia and that we were together. Claudia had grown miraculously into a beautiful woman, and she said, laughing, “You see this is what I came to Europe to discover, how to do this!”

Man, you have to like, stop living in New Orleans. I searched the weather there out of curiosity and holy shit, it’s so humid and hot, like I actually wanna know how did Lou manage to set on fire so many things with that much humidity. I get the whole cultural background thing and it’s really pretty, but dude, pls. You have curly hair. And don’t come to me with any vampiric shit, humidity and curly/wavy hair DON’T MIX. Also, have a happy birthday, stay away from the candles.

♠(Louis) Mais, oui, fire burns even in humid places. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, as they say. Lestat thanks you for the birthday wishes, by the way, and we did have candles, and no one was injured. It’s insulting that people have this perception that I burn things accidentally, believe me, it’s almost never an accident. Or perhaps they are aware that’s it’s done on purpose…

It isn’t humid here year-round, but yes, we love the heat, we love the flora and fauna that love the heat, many things are different, more sultry, in the dead heat of summer. Although I do visit other places, I wouldn’t trade New Orleans as my true home for anywhere else on earth.

As for my hair and the humidity, well, even as a mortal my hair was not very affected by the elements, and it isn’t now. My sister and mother on the other hand, they were always at war with the damp air during the summer months. It was a source of great amusement for my brother and I.

Confession: When I first saw and later read IWTV, I didn’t think that Lestat and Louis were a couple. I understood they had a relationship that was complicated and deep on many levels, but I thought it was because of the whole turning into vampire and living together for many years thing, not romantical or sexual.

Well… your message sat in my inbox for 5 days bc this is a question every reader has to answer for themselves. It partly depends on how much canon you’ve read.

image

[^X “I love him in ways that I can’t explain to other people. They don’t understand… it’s not their fault.” is that not canon?!]

IWTV is Louis’ account of their time in that era, and as @vraik astutely pointed out, Louis admits that he’s holding back information when he says “If I held something too close for you to ask about it, I would not bring it up in the first place.” Lestat says as much near the end of TVL, that Louis left many things out. *~Unreliable narrators!~*

And movie!IWTV had even less of what Louis says in the book, because it had to be edited for the sake of time… many scenes in the book were not in the movie. Also, it was made in the early 90′s, keep in mind that it pushed the envelope for its time re: showing any homosexuality.

tl;dr: I ship Louis/Lestat, I don’t need to define my ship as romantic, sexual, or platonic, etc. I just hardcore ship them TOGETHER.

Hit the jump for more, cut for length.

While they don’t “date” in canon, Louis talks about Lestat in IWTV with a lot of fascination, and later, Lestat writes about Louis with a lot of fascination, too (more, really!)… and they don’t actually kiss in canon until the 3rd book, right before Lestat’s big concert, and then they’re separated again soon after. It’s a ship that takes alot of Read Between the Lines.

Most of the vampires who are turned in canon are turned bc their makers love them so much that they can’t let their loved one be perishable any longer. Whatever Louis’ perception was of IWTV!Lestat, it seems clear to many of the fandom that Lestat chose Louis for more than his wealth and/or friendship, and that now, in later canon, the feelings between them are mutual.

AR answered this in 2014 when she was answering #Fan Questions for Lestat, in which she RP’d Lestat admitting that Louis would be his “Forever Companion.”

There was an article out in 2012 that had some varied comments worth reading about it: Anne Rice confirms that the vampires Louis and Lestat are a same-sex couple with a child

io9: There’s the concept of Louis and Lestat as Claudia’s “parents,” which we see in the novel, movie and now in the graphic novel. When you know the narrative, it’s not quite the modern statement it could appear to be visually, in the adaptation. Are you okay with that as an idea for the new century?

AR: Sure! [Laughs] Sure! I never thought of it, they were the first vampire same-sex parents.

io9: I had wondered if that had been a thought on your mind before.

AR: No.

io9: That’s the way that it seems to be shown, it’s very much “she’s our daughter now.” So I can say, they’re a same-sex couple with children?

AR: Absolutely! Claudia! She’s their daughter.

My additions to one of the comments is pretty funny and you should check it out bc hey, you’ve read this far so? KILL MORE TIME.

Lestat, could I get some words of encouragement? As a pan trans person, I’m so scared for my future after today

♛These are truly frightening the times for many people, and you have every right to be afraid. There’s no shame in that fear.

I’ve seen tyrants like him fall on their own accord, through their own mistakes. Whether that happens or not, we must do what we can to build ourselves and our communities stronger, and refuse to surrender.

I take heart in the fact that great progress has been made in the past few decades by others who fought for their rights. The power of the President is limited, and there are many groups ready and armed to defend those who need defense. One such group is the ACLU“The ACLU works to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people can live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association.”

image

In June of 2015, the  Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, we all celebrated. Just one example of something fought for and won for the LGBT community, not the first, and not the last.

@fierysuggestion: set your past on fire and leave

What do Louis and Lestat think about the US election? Do they support Clinton/Trump or could they care less?

They do care, and they probably would have intense debates about the candidates, but they wouldn’t advocate for one or the other. You can check out Lestat’s answer to this question here.

I think Louis put their stance very eloquently in QOTD (my emphasis added):

[^Louis by @remarried]

“It’s their world, not ours,” he said humbly. “Surely we forfeited it when we lost our mortality. We have no right now to interrupt their struggle. If we do we rob them of victories that have cost them too much! Even in the last hundred years their progress has been miraculous; they have righted wrongs that mankind thought were inevitable; they have for the first time developed a concept of the true family of man.

… Don’t interfere with them. Even if they kill each other! Give them time to see this new vision realized; give the cities of the West, corrupt as they may be, time to take their ideals to a suffering and blighted world.”

Cut for length.

That was the issue that was brought up in QOTD, whether they had a responsibility to have political power and/or have influence the world or not. There was a council of sorts, and some heavy debate was had, mainly on the part of Lestat’s ultra feminist SJW girlfriend vs. literally everyone else except Lestat who mostly sat there terrified into silence and not taking sides, and it ended with the general agreement that they shouldn’t meddle in mortal affairs.

This is partly bc writing their involvement into actual historical events could be difficult if not impossible (What, did they fight in WWII? Which side? How would that even work, concealing their vampirism from their fellow soldiers??!), and partly bc AR herself wasn’t very political back in earlier canon.

(Side note: Louis and Claudia left America close to the beginning – or before? – the Civil War started, it wasn’t addressed in canon, Lestat was on his way to Paris to see Armand, and then Lestat slept through WWII…)

Even now, in the later books, AR keeps her world mostly separate from the Real World; IIRC, Hurricane Katrina was never mentioned in canon, and one would think that NOLA-branch coven founders Louis and Lestat would at least comment on that obviously devastating tragedy. At least one fanfic writer did take up the challenge of weaving in Katrina, and did it very tastefully. So it’s possible, but AR hasn’t gone there.
