Hello! After years of re-reading the first 3 books, I am about to start book 4, ttotbt. However, I was looking at the order of books on Wikipedia and I noticed Pandora and Vittorio are kind of separate? When should I read them so that the series is in order?((your blog is PERFECT, by the way))

((My blog is perfect, indeed. Pffft must pretend to have some level of humility! Thank u *u* ))

Starting TOBT, you’re still on the more sane side of canon. JUST YOU WAIT.

When to read Pandora and Vittorio? That’s a good question. Other ppl may have different answers for you, so anyone feel free to reblog this w/ commentary or send me a message on this.

Pandora

This is the story of Pandora, who was with Marius for quite some time, so I would read this one right before Blood and Gold (which is Marius’ story) so that her perspective is fresh in your mind when Marius starts talking smack about her. AR wrote Blood and Gold after Pandora, so she had to keep that information in mind, too.

Vittorio

HONESTLY, I don’t see that Vittorio really fits into canon at all, I think the Coven of the Articulate are mentioned briefly in his book? His story won’t spoil any of the other books, bc it’s completely separate from theirs, so I’d leave it till later. After Blood and Gold. Maybe even after Prince Lestat, since he’s not in that book, either.

When I started the series, the first 4 had already been published, and I read the fresh VC in the order they were released. This meant that I read Pandora between MtD and TVA, not really ideal placement, as, if I recall correctly, she has only brief cameos in those. I read Vittorio between TVA and Merrick, and I don’t think he appears in either.

Back then we read everything immediately, fearing every VC novel would be the last; trying times. Hope this helped ^______^

The picture is MUCH better. I’m not usually snobby about high-def images or anything but for some reason my DVD of IWTV always had a film grain (I kind of liked it, it added both an antiquated aura and a touch campiness of it), but it also felt…odd. Most films from the 90’s even without restoration still have better clarity than the pictures that came before, but the Blu Ray for IWTV is CRYSTAL.

OuO thank u OKAY I’M SOLD

So, I may have gone through your entire blog. In less than a week. Ooops. Anyway, I love it! Keep up the great work!

Hey, I saw your
post with the book cover
, you wanted the star to get as a tattoo. I think it is
an ordinary pentacle, as far as I know ( I am wiccan/pagan), the circle inside
has no other meaning than the circle outside (it is usually around the star).

Yes, I think it
is significant that the symbol is on its head, later, around in the 19th
century, church claimed it as a symbol for satan or the evil in common. Because
you could see a goat in it. (Church of Satan still uses it today though)

image

(However the christian church is wrong, it had been a symbol for
protection against evil (you can clearly see in Goethes “Faust”).)

So I think the editor of the cover just used it as a representative symbol for satan/evil, which is very suitable for the VC novels. It has already been used often, I don’t think the editor made it especially for IWTV

I hope I could help you 🙂

Thank u, that is a big help! It really does look similar to the one on the book cover. It has the hexagon inside, too. Wow. Thank u!

Not that AR necessarily had any input in the cover design for that edition of the book, but I think she does mention Faust at some point in the series (more than once, maybe…) so she might have suggested it if asked for her opinion.

Hi, I just wanted to say that your blog is delightful! I love it!

thank u, much appreciate <3!

I actually don’t know! Purposely. Ignorance is bliss. I’m just grateful we haven’t suffered a crossover of BV/VC.

I’m gonna redirect you to hyperbeeb, who is taking one for the team and reading the first one in the- has read the first one and is now reading the whole series?! Her tag for this journey into madness is #Mary reads the blood vivicanti

The blood Vivicanti is the name given to the vampires that aren’t vampires in the series. The blood Vivicanti are humans who have been infused with the blood of an alien. They possess superhuman senses and speed. A secondary good source for them is human blood which they consume via a proboscis protruding from their tongue which has a stinger at the end. The sting creates an orgasmic effect in its victims. For the blood Vivicanti, drinking of the blood allows them access to the memories and skills of their victims but only for a limited time (except of course in the case of our special snowflake protagonist whose photographic memory lets her retain skills forever).

The word Vivicanti itself was carefully chosen and created by Anne rice. It is a combination of two Latin words to make a new word.
From my best guess, it’s a mixture of the word vivi, meaning living or alive and canti which means a song so the literal translation of Vivicanti is living song.
So the blood living song. God, it’s blood canticle all over again.

^This was so informative thank u!

My offering to the vc fandom and it’s queen ( i-want-my-iwtv ), a quick Lestat, pose referenced from a photo of Marilyn Monroe. I’d like to clean it up and color him eventually…

That’s one of the details I did like about the QOTD movie; I don’t remember Lestat taking earphones/buds into his coffin in any of the later books, but he did in the film, and I can absolutely see him doing that, and forgetting them often.

Yep, agreed. Since you mentioned movie!QOTD, I was reminded of Time Warner Cable’s eloquent synopsis of it:
