For some reason, I think Lestat would belt out No Excuses by Meghan Trainor. (It’s ok to tell me if I’m wrong.)

AGREE. It falls under #music Lestat motorcycles to, I think it’d totally pump him up ^______^  #HEADCANON ACCEPTED.

turning into tears
And you’re begging for more
though the end is getting near
Come closer my love
I’ll violate you in the most sensual way…
Until you drown in this love”

Things I love about Queen of the Damned

Also inspired by @i-want-my-iwtv call for action, I felt the need to defend my personal love for this film, though it is a bad adaptation.

1. Jesse as a co-protagonist of the story. In the book, Jesse is just one piece of a very large puzzle, but the movie gives her almost equal development and time as Lestat. No, I don’t enjoy their forced romance, and would prefer if that had been left out. But I do love that she’s the lens through which we see Lestat’s history, and how she plays more of a forward role in the overall story. She is brave but is allowed to make mistakes, and is a powerful female character because of that.

2. Lena Olin as Maharet. She brings the character alive with the sheer amount of grace and power she puts into her performance. Maharet feels like she is ancient, and also above the world, but not in a pretentious way. Simply that she is separate from humanity, something she slips up on by allowing Jesse to stay at the compound.

3. The design and look of the Great Family Tree. The tiny tablets with ancient writing fits far more into an old world aesthetic than whatever elementary design I had come up with in my head when I’d read the book. I love how they bleed towards the end of the movie. I love how the branches stretch out not so much like branches on a tree, but like veins and arteries, further driving home the importance of blood.

4. The concert venue being outdoors. Whenever I reread QOTD I have a vague feeling of claustrophobia with how small Cow Palace feels. The tight space lends itself to the ensuing chaos, but the outdoor concert gives more tension imo. The threat and danger of the rogue vampires can come from anywhere, and though we see them in the crowd, when they descend from above it heightens the fear that Lestat might really be in danger.

5. The way the blood drinking mind reading is portrayed. Showing mental powers or mind anything in film is hard. It can either read too cheesy or too realistic. I like the way the film makes the mental blood connection look like a tunnel, like we are being transported along blood vessels to see what the characters are seeing, without revealing too much.

6. Aaliyah as Akasha. This is not far down on the list because of any order, simply because it’s been said by so many of us I didn’t want it to be redundant.

7. The soundtrack. Likewise with this. So many people love these songs, and I probably wouldn’t have discovered Deftones, one of my fave bands, without this soundtrack (and the very hot ‘sex’ scene over Change (In the House of Flies)).

Listen, I know this movie isn’t a good representation of the book. I know it probably isn’t even a good movie by objective standards. But I’ve still rewatched it more than IWTV, and I still love way too much of it. Perhaps that is because it came out when I was first reading the books, so to me, it’ll always be the adaptation that I’ll associate with my fledgling VC days.

Now I feel bad for bashing this movie! I had asked for some love for it, and this was so touching and so generous to it, and like, I hope the ppl who were involved with it had fun making it, and I hope they know that some ppl did enjoy it and do think of it affectionately.

this might be kind of a random question, but i’m curious as to what type of music you listen or what music inspires you the most in your art?

Sorry for taking so long to reply! And for the long reply…

I’ve been thinking this for a good while (how to keep my answer short and relevant, and not get judged that hard because of my taste, haha!)

  • It depends how much immersion I need at the moment when creating
    something.
  • Last few years I’ve mostly listened to Nordic pagan inspired music, as I’ve been more interested of Finnish culture’s origins, mythology and it’s ancient religion.
  • Not Finnish bands nor are the subject matter related to Finnish paganism, but examples of the genre:
  1. Wardruna – Odal
  2. Corvus Corax – Havfrue

  3. Heilung – Krigsgaldr
  • I’ve recently been into music with vampire, bloodborne and dark souls vibes, too. Examples:
  1. Elend Silent Slumber – A God That Breeds Pestilence
  2. Soap&Skin – Me And The Devil

  3. Night of the Hunt – Dance of the Blood-Drunk

  • If I need more cheerful music, Capsule is the stuff!
  • I create playlists for characters, settings, milieus they’re in, or for a imaginary scenes. Sometimes I spend days just for those, doing nothing else in my free time, than searching for fitting music.
  • For d&d and tabletop related characters and stuff I like to use cinematic music, and/or musical like songs, which sounds rich and dramatic to me. They inspire me a lot..! Examples:
  1. The Devil’s Carnival – Trust Me
  2. Hidden Citizen – It’s A Sin

  3. Repo! The Genetic Opera

    Zydrate Anatomy

  • The only organized character playlist I currently have is Lempo’s  that I made last year. But these are really thrilling (and really, really time consuming for me at least) to make. Helps me to build personality and backgrounds for the characters.

(Same anon who asked about The Vampire Chronicles Because her sister loved it.) Dean Winchester and Lestat would have the same taste in music for sure.

i-want-my-iwtv:

(Anon refers to X] I bet they would! @lokitapendragon, any specific songs Lestat and Dean would rock out to in the car together?

*Cracks knuckles* OH HONEY.

“Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard. Lestat belts it out with a heavy French accent and Dean mocks him loudly. Dean cannot sing it to save his life.

“Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Dean tries and fails to imitate the semi-screaming. Lestat laughs, both at the lyrics and Dean’s horrible singing.

“Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. Lestat plays this song on repeat until Sam and Louis and literally everyone else begs him to shut it off (Lestat CANONICALLY loves Bon Jovi so there.) Dean’s emotions are horribly mixed because it still reminds him of the days before he went to Hell.

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Neither of them understand how cheesy everyone else finds this song, or why everybody starts laughing when they strut into the room in their shades with it as a soundtrack.

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult. Lestat seduced and killed victims to this song when it was still new and playing on transistor radios. Dean remembers it from childhood when his dad used it to drown out the sounds of a hunt for toddler Sammy, who got left in the car.

“Heat of the Moment” by Asia. Dean plays this one around Lestat because for some reason it makes Sammy freak out. Louis thinks it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard. When Sam walks in he actually punches the cassette out of the stereo. Lestat asks Dean what set him off.

“Paradise City” by Guns ‘N’ Roses. If Dean’s hearing hadn’t been blown away by all the years of shooting guns with no ear protection or Lestat was mortal, they would both destroy their eardrums cranking this one.

“Rock You Like a Hurricane” by The Scorpions. I don’t know, I have mental images of them both walking into some skeazy bar (both hunting, just for different things?) while this is playing.

I could go on indefinitely so I’ll stop it right there.

^NICE! (Also I love all these songs, BTW)

^I think they’d both agree on this ;D

There’s a song called Tungs by The Frights and it makes me thing of Daniel pining after Armand. Id like your thoughts on it, if you dont mind.

OMG A+++ I love the first few notes, I love the lyrics, perf. Dude I think you’ve given me a new fave band!

Totes Dan pining after Armand. TOTES.

[Verse 1]
For if we ain’t got the time
I tell ya baby I don’t think we’re doing fine
We just haven’t got a clue
I keep my love

I want my blood inside of you

[Chorus]
Do you think I’m cute?
Well it’s too late to check
And I don’t care
You got your tongue against my neck
Do you like my style?
Have you seen my shoes?
Cause they’ve been ripped to shit
From walking the world for you
