Once we start calling people monsters, we start sacrificing our sense of curiosity, our obligation to ask how they became that way, and why they did what they did: life, and certainly fiction writing, is about being endlessly fascinated by the human condition–naming someone a monster is lazy; it allows you to stop thinking and questioning.

I dare to say that Vivienne is proving to resemble Angelina in spirit, attitude and physicality. She is quite elegant like her mother. And Knox — he’s a bit of me. He likes music like his dad. But when he was born he looked like Vladimir Putin!

The Vampire Chronicles: Gabrielle de Lioncourt

She seemed dimly fascinated by all of this, but it didn’t really matter to her. What mattered to her was what lay before her now. And when her death was finished, she was unstoppable. There was no wall that she could not climb, no door she wouldn’t enter, no rooftop terrain too steep. It was as if she did not believe that she would live forever; rather she thought she had been granted this one night of supernatural vitality and all things must be known and accomplished before death would come for her at dawn.

Hello! I’m in the middle of reading VC and I was wondering, do you by any chance remember if there is any mention of the name of the particular Greek island Marius resided on with Akasha and Enkil? I live on an island in Greece and that information is embarassingly important to me (I mean, we never get mentioned in anything, this is a big deal) but internet research hasn’t been helpful :(

Awww, that’s so cute! Which island do you live on? If you don’t mind sharing.

(I admit it’s pretty cool living in New York, a place that’s often mentioned in VC. We even have St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Memnoch the Devil locations.)

(AND I AM GOING TO NEW ORLEANS THIS THURSDAY awww yisss. Such bragging.)

AS FOR YOUR QUESTION: Someone else may have the answer, but if I recall correctly, I don’t think the island is ever mentioned by name because Marius doesn’t want Lestat trying to follow him after being expelled for Doing The Thing. I did a quick scour of TVL and B&G and didn’t find anything more specific than this:

“And then as the 1700s commenced, I prepared to make a daring move to an island where I would rule supreme in the Aegean Sea, surrounded by mortals who would easily accept me as their lord, in a stone house which I had prepared for me by a host of mortal servants.”

“…I was on the terrace of this new house, gazing out at the sea and over the many small islands that surrounded me,– Marius de Romanus, Blood and Gold

So it’s in the Aegean Sea, and it’s an island surrounded by many small islands.

Alonnisos seems to fit that description, although it isn’t SURROUNDED. It’s one of the few that has a bunch of islands around it in more than one direction. IDK what his definition of “small” is for an island, they all look pretty small to me.

There’s also Siros, which is also surrounded by a number of small islands and is, itself, in the Aegean Sea.

Hope that helped!

i’m reading the vampire armand and oh my god i just read what armand did to claudia and i’m shocked and horrified and oh my god please help me process this

This should help a bit:

[The most important thing, according to @vampiredevelopment]

Shocked and horrified would be the appropriate reactions to that scene IF we believe him about that. VC is all about unreliable narrators. Armand is telling his story to David here, trying to intimidate him. Did Armand really do it? We don’t know. If he did, could Louis really forgive him? EVER?

… or, was Armand really trying to help her, as he claimed? “I tried to grant her fondest wish, that she should have the body of a woman, a fit shape for the tragic dimension of her soul.” -The Vampire Armand.

Who knows?! #Your headcanon may vary.

In related info, I have only ever seen one fanart of this scene… beware, once seen cannot be unseen, but I love it bc it truly captures the moment:
