//ooc; I have a policy of not singling out favorites as it often has the unintentional side effect of making those not mentioned feel left out 😛

We had a blog solely for that purpose, @vcpositivity, and also, for a similar purpose, @vcsecretgifts (which I helped to mod last holiday season and I still owe a substitute gift on!! My fic muse for it has not been cooperating). @vcpositivity had posted over two hundred positive confessions from members of this fandom in the five months since it opened, but had to go inactive shortly after achieving that milestone *cries*

Those blogs still have great messages of VC fandom love pointing out the best points of specific ppl in the fandom here (sadly, some those mentioned are currently inactive). Both positivity blogs are now pretty much dormant, but I hope we can resurrect @vcsecretgifts for this upcoming holiday season :]

However, it appears to me that our fandom is almost at a zenith of fanwork production right now, and the quality is also very high! Fresh fanart and fanfic are being made, analysis of the text continues to thrive, there is a palpable ripple of excitement (or anxiety, depending on your stance, lol) every time we get a scrap of news about the official VC adaptations.

The VC RP community has fluctuated in activity but it’s active, and there are muses to play with. There are also excellent Original Character muses (vampires and non-vampires) in fic and RP. They’re very creative in how they blend in as if they were always part of the Ricean verse, and even expand the supernatural rules of it.

I would advise you to go to the RPers and ask for recommendations of other members. You could also try my #VC Fandom Hunters tag.

Hey so I really want to make VC fanart. Does Anne Rice still do legal things when she finds out? I know that all happened a while ago (wayyyyyy before my time in being in fandoms) and I know there is fanart and fanfic out there but I am still paranoid.

As for the fanfic, here’s my long post on it, with a bunch of her statements about it, but basically, she ignores fanfic:

Still, her POTP occasionally bring things to her attention needlessly (like this blog post about someone’s bad experience in VC RP), with overly polite language like, “Anne, I hope that you’re aware that…” trying to provoke a response out of her. She still has rights and a lot more money than we do, so it’s important that we respect her.

Y’know, @lixncourt‘s been on here at least a year but I actually only just found out about them recently myself, mun and muse seem nice enough to me! There’s a lot of RP and a lot of muns

out there, I’d like to get to know more of them better.

So that mun loves my blog, ~~and they use Tom Cruise as a faceclaim and I am of course biased towards liking him~~ so hopefully they’re into the VC spirit in a similar way that I am; VC positivity, inclusiveness, and poking fun at our fave dysfunctional vampires in a respectful sorta way.

If you’re looking for a Lestat to RP with there are a pile of them out there at any given time, but whether they’re active or welcome new RP partners is up to each one individually. Most Lestats are happy to respond to Asks tho!

1. Graphic: I made a gif here bc I felt like it and have the skills. But if you can’t, you can just post a pic or gif of your FC (face claim) and that can be your photo. You can do a text-only promo post but I think these promo posts do better with some visual splash!

If you know how to include it, you can give as much info on the graphic as you like, but usually this is all you need (since you’ll provide more info in the text area):

Muse name – My sample is Vladislav the Poker from What We Do in the Shadows
A decent quote – can be canon or your own creation
URL of your muse – I left it [url here]
Independent (or Indie) RP – to indicate you are doing this independently of the copyright holder(s) of the character.

2. In the comments area, you can include your URL.

Muse name again, and “Independent (or Indie) RP”

3. Age of mun (the “mundane” or human, who is writing the character) and muse (the character you are writing).

If you are over 18, you can write “over 18″ rather than specify your age. Please be honest if you are under 18, because some people on this site cannot RP with minors, it may cost them their jobs. Especially people who work with minors, like teachers. Even if the RP thread is G-rated.
Also, indicate if the other RPer must be 18+.

4. Types of RP your muse is open to.

Multiship – your muse is open to more than one relationship going on in different threads.
Exclusive – your muse is in an exclusive ship with another muse already.
OC-Friendly – your muse is open to RP with Original Characters.
AU-Friendly – your muse is open to RP Alternate Universe situations.
Crossover-Friendly – your muse is open to RP with Characters from other fandoms/media.
Selectivity – How open is your muse to RPing with others? See the vocab link for definitions.

Examples: smut, violence/gore, drugs, etc.

6. Indicate how much canon you have read/watched, and if you will not RP certain time periods. Some people do not consider some books/movies in a series to be canon.

7. Indicate how much RP experience the mun has.

Can vampires in the VC series be awake/get up during the day? I was watching IWTV and there’s the scene where Claudia gets up (in the day) to get into Louis’s coffin. I can’t remember anything about it being mentioned in the books (other than some ancients) but I know that in fanfiction, once dawn comes they pretty much are compelled to go to sleep.

Ricean vampires, unfortunately, are condemned to enjoy the Deathsleep which renders them unconscious for the daylight hours. The plus side being: no snoring can wake them! Not that they can snore, since they don’t breathe. But still.

Louis, IWTV: “Numbness came over my limbs, and then the paralysis of oblivion.“

Louis, IWTV: “You see, I wasn’t sure then why I awoke each evening when I did, whether it was automatic when the deathlike sleep left me, and why it happened sometimes earlier than at other times.”

In movie!IWTV, yes, Claudia is awake right at dawn and seems fully conscious, as she tiptoes carefully around the sunlight.

^It was too perfect a moment not to include in a movie about lonely ppl, that singular act of a daughter climbing into bed w/ her mommy!Louis (bc we all know he’s the mom) rather than sleep alone! ❤ And purely platonic at that point in the movie.

There is a fic out there that suggests that Ricean vampires do awaken during the day when they are under extreme emotional duress, and it’s a very disorienting state to be in, they can’t function very rationally, as nocturnal animals also act erratically in daylight.

I sleep in a bed when at home….and mostly when I travel. I prefer it and it is comfortable to awaken in. I do keep coffins in hidden areas of the house, however and these are fail-safes, when I need to feel more secure. The ground or tombs only when there is no other alternative….or I’ve decided that I’ll sleep for a few decades or so.

I have also found that I sleep less now than I ever have before. It is possible that my “promotion” has altered my need for it. During the day, if I am awake, I stay hidden in the dark as much as I can…it stings my eyes less and I don’t have to move around much.

In true slumber, I will murder anyone that I sense to be a threat and this seems to be an unconscious action. I have found that if blood is shared, I’m less inclined to sense them as a threat and kill them. So it is possible to sleep in bed beside me or in my arms…..however, for all intents and purposes, I am dead. Pooled blood, rigor mortis, clouded eyes….all that fun. So be prepared to sleep next to a corpse for several hours.

Other than that, I am dead sexy…..

All at once….but then it is just deafening noise. My preternatural senses have evolved in such a way that they allow me to pick through the layers and find what I want or need to hear. Sometimes I fail if my concentration is broken and that is where my migraines come from.

The best way to break into RP is to send Asks to RP characters who CAN do threads, and start a conversation! Some of them prefer to RP with people who have a blog set up for just RP but some of them will have a conversation with anyone 😉
