Could you give me a little help? I can never remember the difference between the VC characters Santiago and Santino. Are they even different characters or are they the same and I just imagined one of them? Sorry for asking but I don’t have time to skim the books and thought you would know :)

I used to get them mixed up early on, too. They’re VERY different. And yet similar. (also I don’t think they’re ever in the same place together in the series, which is neither here nor there, but whatever) This is Santiago, we meet him in IWTV:

Santiago is a BAMF, and he’s Armand’s right-hand man at the Theatre des Vampires, also an actor there, usually plays the narrator or character of “Death” in their gruesome stage performances. Santiago does NOT like Louis from the moment they meet. Santiago can sense weakness in Louis, and Santiago is also suspicious of Claudia just for her existence; it’s against the rules to make child vampires. Santiago is not gonna let that slide. 

Santino is a BAMF, too. We meet him in TVL, he trains Armand to become the coven master of the Children of Darkness, eventually helming the Scranton Paris branch in the cemetery of Les Innocents. More on him in TVA and B&G, which I have not memorized yet. Santino is the leader of a coven of Satanic vampires, the members of which hold a common belief that they are meant to be the scourge of humankind. I can’t say more without spoiling you, so go to Wiki for more.

You can also ask a Santino RPer! vampirexsantino would probably answer more. He’s the only active Santino I know of rn, and I don’t know any active Santiagos. vampiresantiago is inactive, but you might like perusing their archive.

Ok so like, howwwwww …. does your vampire body know to grow your hair back, and to the same length. Like, you talk about vamps cutting their hair and then it grows back, which, ok, whatever, but then how does your body know when to STOP growing it. Like, uh oh, better add a few more inches for Claudia, but Armand only had a bob when he died, can’t go over that. How would it know?

I think the vampiric parasite (Amel) analyzes the blueprint of the host’s body when it’s installed and it then immediately uninstalls the features it doesn’t need (e.g. internal reproductive organs). It then starts converting all the organic matter of the host body into its own substance to “perfect it” into the pure supernatural killing machine that it wants to be. 

In that sense, that initial blueprint probably indicates length of hair, beard growth, muscle shape and position, etc., at time of death, and those are elements that the vampiric parasite program respects and wants to maintain as it continues to “update” its host body. It could be detrimental if a vampire shaved its head and then was stuck like that for eternity. The external appearance of the host body will affect its ability to hunt, and thus, preserve itself. It’s in the parasite’s interest for the host to continue to survive so that it can, too.

However, if the vampire had shaved as a mortal before turning, then that would be maintained.

BTW, about nails:

The nail growth part of vampire mythology seems to stem from how corpses tended to shrivel from dessication in their coffins after death, hence, making it appear that their fingernails had grown longer. Although I think hair does continue to grow for a short while after death? I’m not sure.

Da Vinci’s The Last Supper vs. the Théâtre des Vampires (Interview with the Vampire)

vampchronfic (V) and I (Mater Fabuloso) were having a serious discussion about ^this brief moment:

V: Look at the vampire at the end in the back row (left). I can’t stop laughing! Have we ever identified all of them? 

M:

hahaha!

Omg no, we never identified them! Must be done…

He might be Felix. 

V:  Even funnier – bottom row left, 2nd in, that little one, head peeking out at the last minute! That’s got to be Laurent.

M: YES Laurent! Lady Vampire on the Right: the mad queen, right? She got a name in PL I think… can’t remember right now…

V: Allesandra was the Old Queen.

M: RIIIIIGHT.

at first I was laughing at that tag and then I had to read i love every time he hits smtg or knocks smtg over bc hes so frustrated that he cant attack whoever actually is pushing him over the edge#bc he is a gentleman deep down#and always will be

AND THEN I HAD TO KEEP LAUGHING TO KEEP MYSELF FROM CRYING. 

Think of how strong Louis must be though…he doesn’t even ask or question the others, but you know that he sees and senses: he never tests his strengths, his possible powers that he’s not only gained through his age but by the fact that he was changed and has since shared blood with Lestat who has drank of the most powerful undead. He probably has abilities to match Armand or even more by this point. And he doesn’t.

He at once says that he doesn’t think he has a touch of humanity in him anymore, but his actions lead towards the belief that he clings to whatever humanness is left in him.

And out of the vampires, despite the fact he is indiscriminate in his killings, he seems the most gentle, or at least the most obviously opposed to hurting things himself outside of the need to hunt: think about his choice of weapon—fire.

Fire burns on its own, Louis has to light the match, but the violence is done by the fire, not by himself.
