Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt | Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Okay, so let’s talk about Tom Cruise for a minute.
One of the things I love about this movie is that the scenes with Lestat make it SO different if you go into them on Lestat’s side. Tom Cruise nailed it so hard and I recall hearing that he read the books for research? So he had such a deeper grasp on Lestat’s personality than if they’d only used the Interview source material and taken Louis’s word on Lestat’s personality and temperament. There’s so much subtext to these two characters that you don’t really get from Interview alone because Louis is such an unreliable narrator*. But for example, the scene with the hookers: Louis makes Lestat out to be this horrifying monster and it’s like such a heartbreakingly different scene if you go into it on Lestat’s side and realize that he’s trying to help. PLZ CHILD PLZ EAT SOMETHING! And they drop a teeny clue earlier in the movie about how Lestat kills evildoers and it’s subtle and I’m not sure if everyone who hasn’t read the book picks it up? But knowing that going into the scene and being able to deduce that these women deserve to die makes it so different.
And there are so many little clues in their scenes about how much he truly cares for Louis, and even just his acting like YOU CAN JUST SEE IT IN HIS FACE HOW MUCH HE ADORES LOUIS and it’s just like so fucking special. Like the part where he drains the rat into the glass, he’s doing that to help, and the look he gives Louis when they have the “there’s nothing in this world now that doesn’t hold some-” “-fascination” exchange UGH. he’s basically like 😍😍😍😍😍
* I MEAN, DEPENDING WHICH ONE OF THESE IDIOTS YOU DECIDE TO BELIEVE. The options are A) Louis is salty as fuck and Lestat is actually like a mostly-loveable happy vampire dude, or B) Lestat is bipolar as fuck and everything Louis said was true and we get to see Lestat’s bullshit behavior unfolding later in the series and we see the way he packages it as if it’s normal because he’s an egomaniac. IDK WHATEVER. Point is, even when Lestat is doing atrocious things, his sense of humor is such a strong voice in the series, and it makes you like him, so what I’m saying is that it was amazing that Tom Cruise played it the way he did, and that the crew obviously used extra source material to get that bit of his personality, and if this movie had turned into a series it would’ve been believable later on when you learn that Lestat is a silly jackass. ❤
It’s something that could’ve been neglected so easily and like I’m forever the happiest and luckiest losernerd that I got the rare Excellent Adaptation for a book I love to death.

what i dont get is why people think straight up insulting people and bullying them and telling them to kill themselves will make anyone sympathetic to their cause. ppl who do this shit only want it for the high of bullying, not social justice.
right, you would think their end goal would be conversion, and if it were and they had any brains at all, they’d maybe attempt to be civil and sway people to their side. but all they put out there is violent hate and rage, so anyone who was even kinda on the fence is gonna be scared off. and honestly, good, antis need to disappear, not recruit more.
Do you ever read a fanfic that is just so good it just sticks with you into days or even weeks after you’ve read it. Like you could be sitting in class or alone in your room and suddenly you’re just like, wow, that was a really good fanfic. Like it was really good.
Love is not about sex, going on fancy dates, or showing off. It’s about being with a person who makes you happy in a way nobody else can.
Medication is often stigmatized and that really bothers me. I’ve taken meds on and off for years to supplement my focus and combat my anxiety. I’ve adapted because of prescriptions. None of us are weak for this, we’re simply helping our brains get the chemicals they need to function better.

You create it without me in mind!! How dare!! Here are reasons you shouldn’t!!!
This is accurate, but it isn’t just anons. It’s virtually everyone to some degree.
I don’t mean offense by that. Most of the time, people just want to help. Or they’re excited. I even do it to other girls myself sometimes. We give unsolicited advice, suggestions, “you should”s and so on.
We try to control, even in the most well meaning way, what women do with their talents. We want to have a say in a woman’s behavior.
It’s a cynical way to think, but in my experience, it’s not a big step all to go from “You should try this” to “I was just trying to help” to “Wow you’re a bitch for not letting me control you.” It’s breathtaking to me sometimes how quickly and willingly people turn on you this way because of the expectation that you exist for them rather than for yourself. And it’s a very strong expectation, one you probably don’t think you have.
But it’s there when people tell me to turn off anons or say nasty things because I’m not dealing with hate the way they want me to. It’s there when people tell me who I should draw. It’s there when people say, under their breath, “I wish she wouldn’t copy photos.” “I wish you would behave according to me.”
And we’re not shy about it, especially when we think we’re being helpful. The need to rescue (and the expectation that women need to be rescued, even if from no one else but their own inherent bad judgment or “sin”) is deeply ingrained in our society. It’s in our laws, our religion, our commerce.
Think about all the ways, even the ways you believe to be harmless or helpful or barely there, that you feel you’re allowed, entitled, or even expected to take personal sovereignty from a woman. ❤
