I want to make something clear real quick

my goal isn’t to make anyone think exactly the same way I do. i want you to think for yourself.

don’t swallow my posts wholesale w/out thinking. don’t swallow what fandom policers say wholesale w/out thinking. don’t parrot other people without thinking.

ask yourself if people are being honest before believing them

think about the words people use. ‘always’, ‘all’, ‘never’ and ‘nobody’ are absolutes; in reality, there’s almost always exceptions to the rule.

generalizations are not always trustworthy & can’t be applied to individuals. (that might be a generalization about generalizations.)

there are abusers who call themselves shippers. there are abusers who call themselves anti-pedophilia/incest/abuse. there are abusers who ship pairings you consider abusive and abusers who ship only the fluffy, safe pairings. abusers can use anything to abuse, so don’t believe people who say ‘my space is abuser-free.’ (it isn’t.)

it’s easy to get turned around and thrown off by people who argue dishonestly. if they can’t answer simple questions about their position, you should probably ask somebody else who knows more.

shaming and guilting are not arguments. people who try to shame or guilt you into agreeing with them are not treating you kindly. be cautious about listening to them.

talk to people you trust. get blog recs; read different arguments & come to your own conclusions. know where you stand and why you stand there. know that it’s not wrong to change your mind if new evidence persuades you.

and know that you never have to tell anyone what you conclude if you don’t want to. that’s your business. you don’t have anything to prove to me or anyone else.

I just want everyone to have confidence in their ability to think for themselves and do what’s best for themselves – and not just in fandom. in everything. and I think that learning how to draw your own conclusions is the best way to protect yourself from being used or abused by someone trying to force their ideals down your throat.

InktoberVC Day 13: Nicolas’ hands

As I told you when I was drawing this, I think I had never drawn Nic… Like, I don’t know why? But I should do more often (and in colour) draw him, because I haven’t drawn violinist’s hands in a while since I don’t go every weekend to the orchestra to hear one of my friends play.

I thought about drawing a pair of disembodied hands but I had to take the chance and draw him XD

look…………….. write as much shitty fic as you want. nobody can stop you. you’re learning constantly and it’s better to write hackneyed implausible ridiculousness than it is to not write at all out of fear of fucking up. you’re good

There was an experiment a professor did. I think it was pottery students. He did an experiment of “quality” vs “quantity”. One half of the class he told; you have to make as many pots as possible. Good pots, bad pots, shitty pots, whatever. The more pots you make, the higher your grade.

The other half of the class were told, “you can make only one pot”. But that pot had to be perfect. The quality had to be high; the highest quality pot would get the best mark.

But when it came to the grading, they noticed something weird.

All the best quality pots were in the ‘quantity’ group.

The guys who were literally churning out pots, trying to make as many as possible, not concentrating on the quality. But every pot they made, made them better at making pots. By the end of the month (I think it was a month) – they had some pretty awesome pots coming out, because they enjoying finding all the ways and all the things they could do to make all their pots. Where as the ‘quality’ guys had spent their time reading up on pots, and technique, and researching and planning; which was all great but they’d had no further practice at actually making pots.

The best way to get really good at something, the only way to be really good at something, is to make lots of shitty attempts at that thing several of which will fail. If all you create are perfect things then you won’t improve, because how can you improve on perfect?

tl:dr MAKE YOUR SHITTY POTS.

Hey, everyone. I’ve gotten some good reception from my pictures I’ve posted. Thank you all for that, coming from the bottom of my heart.

Now, I have a question for all of you. The Vampire Chronicles is full of representation that we’re assuming will be finally brought to light on the TV screen. So before I ask, a small anecdote.

I am Andrei, a 20 year old (pre-transition) transgender man. Finding a name that fit me, finding where I was comfortable, and finding who I was even was a difficult journey…

Until I met Armand.

We have both been through similar struggles about our identity in all aspects, and so I took his birth name Andrei as my chosen. That’s how much he means to me. But I want to take this further. I want to start my passion not only as an actor, but a Vampire Chronicles fan. I want to audition for the role of Armand, but I need to make sure that my fellow fans are open to this idea. That being said–

Please like or reblog this if you would support Armand being portrayed by a transgender man.

It would mean the world to me if I knew I had all of you behind me, beside me, and in front of me.

Thank you,

Andrei Francis Bates
