Since you mentioned me as a potential reference re: The Lost Boys vampires and tattoos (I’m oddly flattered to be considered the TLB reference, by the way): no, in the movie none of them are shown to have tattoos–just piercings. However, in theory I think they would indeed retain any tattoos they had from when they were human, and could get permanent ones after being turned (which could be removed by scraping/cutting/etc. off the tattooed skin and letting it regenerate to its natural state).

You are ABSOLUTELY The Lost Boys authority!

thank you for your commentary on tattoos, I agree 100%. I think it would be the same for the Ricean vampires.

So a tattoo, gotten before or after turning, could potentially be permanent, or it could be removed as you’ve described.

I actually do predict this is how it happens in canon. If we are to consider it canon. That is up for debate.

[Amy] Nicholson astutely connects Eyes Wide Shut back to Interview with the Vampire through their intentionally strained eroticism, which serves to acknowledge the films’ respective true theme of the capitalist power that lingers under the superficial sexual roleplay. This, in turn, underlines the great irony of Cruise’s career: that his weirdest and most original performances, particularly in these two films, are often panned because they entail subtly blunt trickery that involves the deliberate assumption of cold, alienating theatrical tactics that point inward toward their own inherent falseness. These are Cruise’s most daring and revealing turns, rather than the obligatorily “relevant” performances that often win him praise.

I just watched the director’s commentary section on the IWTV dvd and there seems to be some additional scenes

YES there are additional CUT SCENES and it is a sore subject among the fandom. And Warner Bros/Geffen doesn’t seem to be interested in releasing a 20th Anniversary edition with those scenes as extras *pouts*

Here’s some tags with pics you won’t find in the movie because they’re production stills or cut scenes (or unused shots from scenes that did make it into the movie, or I couldn’t tell the difference so I tagged it as both). Siiiigh.

There are little bits in the original trailer that have these, for example:

  • a few seconds’ snippet of a Theatre des Vampires stage performance
  • Louis saying something like, “I can’t take this anymore” to camera
  • Lestat saying something like, “I never knew what life was until it ran out in a red gush on my lips.”

I think Neil Jordan also specifically mentions some things but I haven’t watched the director commentary in a loooong time.
