Hello, sorry to bother you if you’ve seen this before, but I just found Botticelli’s Portrait of a Young Man for the first time, and his expression reminds me of Armand even more than the angel paintings! Maybe how Armand stares and stares at people lol. Hope you have a nice day!

My day was very good, thank u! Hope yours was/is, too.Ā

I looked for the painting and I found 3, there are probably even more than that… thanks for pointing these out to me, I hadn’t seen them before, I can definitely see some Armand in each of them.Ā

In all of them I see the ā€œspun amberā€ hair thing, as David Talbot being a borderline perv including touching him w/o asking firstĀ describes Armand in TVA:

ā€œYour hair’s like something spun from amber, as if the amber would melt and could
be drawn from candle flames in long fine airy threads and let to dry that way to make
all these shining tresses. You’re sweet, boylike and pretty as a girl. I wish I had one
glimpse of you in antique velvet the way you were for him, for Marius. I wish I could
see for one moment how it was when you dressed in stockings and wore a belted
doublet sewn with rubies. Look at you, the frosty child. My love doesn’t even touch
you.ā€

Apply that description to these:

^Portrait of a young man holding a medallion.Ā Altho this one doesn’t resemble Armand to me, it reminded me of his painting the ikons in the caves. ā€œYeah this took me maybe a half hour… commissions are closed.ā€ Bonus points for the subtle trompe-l’œil effect of his finger sort of out of the frame like that.

^Portrait of a Young Man 3. This is more physically Armand to me, and of the attitude of Armand, who has perfected the very difficult to achieve front-facing side-eye expression. He’s also throwing a gang sign, is that a W for west coast or an E for east coast? Armand is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

^Portrait of a Young Man.Ā This one has awesome hair, all swirled like that. You might call this portrait boring at first glance but if you give it more of a chance, it has a haunting effect. Is he leaning forward a little? It seems like it. This is more of the coven master face to me than the other two.Ā ā€œIf there were a leader… I would be the one.ā€

I know another good choice for Armand might be Caleb Landry Jones. He’s currently 27 and I constantly forget he’s that old. I always think he’s like 20, 21. He’d be a good pick too, in addition to all the others you have named 8D. I’ve also seen some Armand rpers use him as a FC. Not many, but one or two. I’d, personally, be fine with her maybe aging Armand up into his early twenties. That’s a reasonable reason to age him up. Not wanting an actor to age too much while in the role.

@gingerhairedimmortal-archived used Caleb Landry Jones as a face claim. I agree w/ the age thing, he definitely could pass for 16, IMO.

There’s a sweetness to him, he’s got some charm.

Can he be bad ass enough? Idk, I haven’t seen him in much. Only Byzantium, which I really did not like, which wasn’t his fault. He wasn’t very remarkable in that movie to me.

This is one of those ā€˜beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ things, I can’t quite articulate why he doesn’t come near my headcanon for Armand, but hey, he could be a fantastic actor. You’re not the only one who’s suggested him, so I’d screentest him, if it were up to me ;]

moral-cipher:

//tbh if armand had been born in the 20th century instead of the 15th he’d probably be talamasca

^These tags tho!: #ooc, #way too much creepy psychic shit going on, #i mean shall we make a list, #out of body experience, #near death vision, #religious visions, #channeling god/trancelike state, #crazy telepathy skills, #projection of visions, #seeing ppl’s auras, #seeing and talking to ghosts, #(like srsly no other vampires besides david can do that???), #spellbinding/dazzling/confusing/calming ppl, #aka the mindwhammy,

Yeah, Armand seemed to exhibit quite a lot of abilities (these are a mix of pre- and post-turning), so maybe the vampiring just enhanced what he already had.Ā

Working at the Talamasca could have been perfect for him.

Do you think Marius was jelous when Armand was hooking up with that english lord? Because I think he was, which is curious because he didn’t have a problem with him fooling around with the half of Venice

Marius is one of our more Problematicā„¢

characters in canon, so take every discussion about him and his treatment of Armand/Amadeo with a huge truckload of salt and patience, bc there are some strong opinions out there.

Marius knew about Armand (known then as ā€œAmadeoā€) and Lord Harlech. He might have been jealous, but didn’t say so in TVA, only that he was worried for Amadeo’s safety:

ā€œHeĀ has quite the reputation, your English lord, slamming down his knife on the board inĀ any tavern he chooses. Do you have to consort with common murderers? You have aĀ nonpareil here when it comes to those who take life.ā€

@auburnandamberangel, @sheepskeleton,Ā @amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance,Ā @faceofabotticelliangel, @annabellioncourt,Ā @vraik, andĀ @anton-mordrid would all probably have better answers for this… anyone is invited to reblog/comment and add their thoughts.

The main difference I see is that Marius gave Amadeo the autonomy and independence to make his own choices in this regard, and Amadeo was more rebelling against Marius in his fling w/ Lord Harlech than furthering his sexcapades education. It turned out that LH was bonkers,Ā got all weird and overly possessive and wanted to kidnap Amadeo… it was a bad breakup.

[X, @cloudsinvenice said: I’m thinking Armand when he fights Lord Harlech, personally.]

There’s some debate about why Marius sent Amadeo around for all those sexual escapades and I always read it as part of Marius’ full-rounded education deal that he wanted Amadeo to have; to have experienced all the good things in life that can be humanly experienced, and to show him that physical intimacy doesn’t have to be the horrible experience it was when Amadeo was kept in the brothels. Not necessarily the best cure for a sexually abused child/teenager but Marius was probably thinking of it asĀ exposure therapy:

Exposure therapy is a technique in behavior therapy used to treat anxiety disorders. It involves the exposure of the patient to the feared object or context without any danger, in order to overcome their anxiety and/or distress. Procedurally it is similar to the fear extinction paradigm in rodent work.Ā
