absolemcaterpillar is not a VC character, but has fit into our ‘verse very well. I think they’re an Indie RPer more from the Alice in Wonderland fandom. Rather than attempt a description myself, full info on them is heeeere.
So, I’m not going to throw in my “Why fight eachother?” “When you can all love me together!” gifset w/ our fandom’s lead character, because that’s sugarcoating when gently #-swats with newspaper (thanks cup-of-lixx!), is so much more appropriate. A gentle swat!
Was this about the potential wedding of fictional vampires? I think that is the topic on which this conflict started. There were opinions on that and people felt that contrary opinions maligned their own. I think it’s worth analyzing why, so that when this happens again (IT WILL) we can all react a little more peaceably. Hit the “Keep reading…” for that.
Basically: serious aggressive discussions happen in every field, every fandom, every topic that exists. That’s part of Real Life. The word “fandom” doesn’t guarantee that everyone who likes what you like will have the same opinion about it, or that they will even like YOU.
I think we can all agree that we all care about these characters, and we all want to see them treated properly in canon.
Specifically about the wedding:
Anne Rice offered some plot points and ideas about a possible wedding between her characters occurring in the next VC installment. Opinions here seemed to divide into:
1. OMG this is awesome! Show me the fluffy ❤ Let’s talk about the venue, let’s get *~David Tutera~* in here, ‘stat! I’m so so happy that my ship will be officially validated in canon, I mean, finally, no one can call them “just friends” if they’re actually MARRIED <3<3<3 I JUST LOVE THESE CHARACTERS AND WANT WHAT’S BEST FOR THEM.
2. UGH this is so lame! This is a mortal convention and is it really applicable to immortal non-human beings? Plus which, marriage isn’t for everyone (especially creatures who have difficulty with monogamy *cough cough*
LESTAT who falls in love at lease once in every book*cough*) so why must it be forced into OUR series? Is it fanservice? Should authors do fanservice, even at the expense of writing out-of-character? I JUST LOVE THESE CHARACTERS AND WANT WHAT’S BEST FOR THEM.
From what I gathered, it appeared that these two very contrasting opinions led to:
Whether or not either group is “right,” we all have our own way of engaging with it. Whether finding it an escape from reality and a source of joy and squee, or finding it a packed mystery worth examining with a critical eye, and everything in between.
Not everyone is leaving. No one needs to leave. The fandom isn’t full of these serious aggressive discussions, they happen occasionally. The internet/tumblr is big enough for everyone.

There was a Pandora RPer around at one point, vita–ante–acta. I would go into her archive and find ppl she interacted with, they may be your ppl!

Dear anon, this is an impossible question to answer a simple “Books 1-4″ or “Books 1-3, and then 5″ or such and so forth…
… as some ppl refuse to read Prince Lestat, or a bunch of the other books, won’t even give them a chance not that they all deserve a wholehearted chance necessarily…
Most of the fandom, in my experience, have had different gateway drugs to the series. I love collecting stories of how people first got into it (#I love these kind of stories tag). They first saw movie!IWTV or movie!QOTD and then read the corresponding book, or a friend gave them a random one from the series, or someone donated the whole series to them, etc. From there, some people read in order, some people skipped around.
PERSONALLY, I first started with IWTV and at that time (1994) the movie was out but being rated R, I was too young to see it, so I read the books that were available at the time (1-4), in order. I also snuck over to a friend’s house to see movie!IWTV when it came out on VHS (I’M OLD), which we watched repeatedly, and it attained this *~forbidden-fruit~* sort of connotation for me which has never dissipated.
Then I continued and just read the books as they came out. Hard to imagine, but there was a time when we waited, not knowing when the next book would come out, or if there would be another at all. AR originally intended to end the series at Memnoch the Devil, which is probably why it ends like this:

THAT SAID, if you want to make VC fanworks (including fic, meta discussion, fanart, etc.) or do VC RP, it seems to help if you’ve read at least IWTV, TVL, and TVA (TVA might spoil previous events in canon but it’s really THE authority on Armand)(and read some fanfic!).
I think those VC contain the crux of the fan fave characters (Lestat, Louis, ((Nicki)), Gabrielle, Armand, Daniel, Marius) and scenes that have had alot of impact in developing the main characters. Your fanworks/RP will be richer if you know the background of the characters, because you’ll be able to refer to the events, or quotes, or take them as a jumping-off point in your work.
However, in the later books, you get new info, new characters, and new perspectives on previous events (example: Claudia’s diary entry in QOTD is heartwrenching).

I’m sorry, normally I CAN and do reply within a few days, as part of my Being the Active and Responsive VC Blogger I Want to See in the World. I’ve had a flurry of fanwork inspiration in the past 2 weeks; some recent RPing, I was working on a ficlet for a fandom friend’s birthday that I posted recently, and another 2 ficlets that I haven’t posted yet (1 is ready and the other is not), and before that I made two VC parody videos [1, my first original post to break 10K notes!! zomg!] and [2 which features a snippet of Britney Spears music aww yisss]…
ALSO I have a personal rule that I try not to post more than 10x a day, I don’t want to spam y’all and I think I’m over my limit today. Even though fanworks are happy spam (ノ°∀°)ノ’.:*・°☆

Aaaand the Louis question is also hard because that’s another potential Wall of Text™ because there are so many things I think he’d love! And there’s the question of does he get to decide where he is when it happens? Maybe he’d want to go somewhere outside NOLA for a daylight experience.

Yes, totally fine. Alot of them count as stand-alone books. But I think TVL follows IWTV better than B&G, B&G may spoil things in TVL.
