I remember first learning that you can cry from any emotion, that emotions are chemical levels in your brain and your body is constantly trying to maintain equilibrium. so if one emotion sky rockets, that chemical becomes flagged and signals the tear duct to open as an exit to release that emotion packaged neatly within a tear. Everything made sense after learning that. That sudden stability of your emotions after crying. How crying is often accompanied by the inability to feel any other emotion in that precise moment. And it is especially beautiful knowing that it is even possible to experience so much beauty or love or happiness that your body literally can’t hold on to all of it. So what I’ve learned is that crying signifies that you are feeling as much as humanely possible and that is living to the fullest extent. So keep feeling and cry often and as much as needed

SHIT WHAT

Also let yourself cry. It really is a biochemical release valve to dump out all the chemicals that make you feel stuff.

I honestly think one reason men in western culture have so many problems is that we don’t let them cry, and literally their brains get stuffed with all this crap that doesn’t have a release valve. Men, please cry. You’ll feel better. It’s ok. You are not lesser for taking care of your health.

This is why tears from different emotions look different under an electron microscope. They’re literally made up of different things.

Happy tears are structurally different than sad tears than angry tears than overwhelmed tears etc.

“Do you know what I think about crying? I think some people have to learn to do it. But once you learn, once you know how to really cry, there’s nothing quite like it. I feel sorry for those who don’t know the trick. It’s like whistling or singing.”

– Lestat de Lioncourt, Memnoch the Devil

Hello Lestat, I have been a vampire for around as long as you maybe longer, I was born in French inhabited America but returned to France to live up until the end of the revolution. What was/ is your opinion of the atrocities that took place?

//ooc; This has been sitting in my inbox for a month, I’m not a history buff and not into historical politics, and I did ask around, but it’s tough to answer. What would he remember about that? Vampires supposedly have perfect memories. What are his opinions? VC does not get very political.

“By day I almost forgot the vision of the inn, and the darkness. Unless, of course, … I happened upon a public execution in the place de Grave.

And I was always happening upon a public execution in the place de Grave.

I’d wander out of the square shuddering, almost moaning. I could become obsessed with it if not distracted.” – The Vampire Lestat (p.1, ch.7)

He wasn’t a vampire at that point, but clearly those public executions had an impact on him bc he brings it up later as a vampire. Even though he causes death often, death as spectacle is different. Still, he doesn’t suggest that they shouldn’t have done it.

The French Revolution took his brothers, their wives, and all his nieces and nephews, and as much as he despised his brothers, he still took care of his father until the end of his life in New Orleans, and he still had a dream that he turned his whole family into vampires, so what that means to you as a reader is up for interpretation.

Anyone can comment. What do you think any of the vampires’ opinion is/was of the atrocities that took place during the French Revolution?

“Why do people want me to do something about all this?” I asked. “I don’t know what to do?” – Prince Lestat.

Why don’t we in the fandom draw him crying more? He does it a lot and he’s cute when he cries<3

More crying Lestat fanart please!

retroautomaton:

Some crying tips. I’m pretty bored of seeing movies with clean crying, but wow it’s by no means clean. It’s gross and messy and just downright fun to draw.

I loved reading the part in Interview where Lestat is just utterly washed up and weak, it was so scary and so close to the edge of a catharsis for me- This kinda alternate-universe Lestat that Louis invented was one hell of a nightmare.

Anyway, he doesn’t look as horrifying in this as he did in my mind when I read this part, but maybe I’ll draw that as well in the future sometime…
